To me, the best the Rockets can realistically do at this point is to bring back Parsons and give up the chase for any kind of big name free agents. Keep your team from last year together and hope they can make a run at a top 4 seed.
The worst that can happen is they lose Parsons, don't bring in Bosh, and are still stuck with a couple terrible contracts on role players. That will probably be good enough to challenge Phoenix and Memphis for the 8th seed.
I think they overplayed their hand and should have kept Parsons at his crappy salary. At minimum, they would have gotten Parson's best effort all year while he was playing for his payday contract. Even if they bring him back, he's got no incentive to go balls to the wall anymore.
