Why is everyone so confident that Durant will leave? Have I missed something?

I hate to lose Parsons, but he's not worth that kind of money.

Because people need something to be optimistic about.

Mavs and Rockets CAN execute sign-and-trade by mutually canceling offer sheet and then executing new deal at Parsons' agreed-upon salary

Wizards have engaged Rockets and Pelicans in three-team deal to facilitate Trevor Ariza going to the Rockets and Omer Asik going to NO.

BIG night for Chandler Parsons. ESPN has learned Parsons will be added to Team USA roster announced Monday by USA Basketball

Pelicans will get Asik, Omri Casspi & 1.5M from Houston. Rockets get Ariza from Wizards, Alonzo Gee and 2015 protected first from Pelicans.

I guess this allows us to shed salary? Why do this just to get Alonzo Gee?

Because Durant is learning he can't win it in OKC and he is getting tired of Westbrook.

Seems likely that Love and Rondo get traded before trade deadline. We don't have enough to offer Min anyway and Love will definitely be going to Cle anyway. Do we have enough to offer Boston to get Rondo? Trading away the 1 to LAL can't help.

Ariza and parsons are very similar players.

Ariza PER (higher is better): 15.8
Parsons PER: 15.9

Ariza ORtg (higher is better): 113
Parsons ORtg: 114

Ariza DRtg (lower is better): 104
Parsons DRtg: 108

Ariza win shares/48 min: 0.141
Parsons win shares/48 min: 0.131

They are very similar. Offensively about the same, defensively Ariza is an upgrade, and the rockets desperately need a wing defender. So why pay twice as much for one over the other? Rockets locked Ariza in for next 4 years for 2/3 of what it would have taken to lock up parsons for the same time period assuming 1 more cheap year then having to offer max next year as UFA.

As far as Lin and Asik, Lin's production should be able to be replaced pretty easily (he's been awful past 2 years) with some combo of Daniels/Canaan/nick Johnson.

If Asik trade goes through, rockets should have about $8-$9M to try to find a big who can play PF/C and back up Howard.

Need to see all the moves before declaring of a team is worse or better off.

With Chandler Parsons' departure, the longest tenured Rockets are now James Harden, Francisco Garcia, Patrick Beverley and D-Mo.

Not a single player left from the 2011-12 roster.

Rockets BELIEVE they can still execute sign-&-trade with Dallas on Parsons if both sides mutually agree. Seeking league approval as we speak

Ariza's stats per 36 don't change that much actually. The key is that he can't handle being a focal point offensively. So we'll see how he fits in Houston when Beverley is on the court.

Chandler is a much better creator offensively.

Ariza is a career 43% shooter and he only topped 42% once in the last 5 years including two years below 40%.

Chandler is a career .473 shooter, significantly better than Ariza.

Parsons is also a much better passer than Ariza. Parsons' 4.0apg is higher than Ariza's career high.

Parsons is also 4 years younger than Ariza.

I don't think there is much question that Chandler is the more valuable of the two players and that Ariza is a downgrade. I think that will become more apparent now that Chandler is playing for the second best coach in the NBA while Ariza plays for McHale.

Sign and trade is agreed on, so Asik is in New Orleans. Do we get Gee?

Awful offseason for Morey...gambled and lost bad...
Texas A&M
How long do you want to ignore this user?
While the majority of Rockets fans would have preferred to keep Parson, they are close enough that the salary difference isn't supportable. The only significant advantage to Parsons IMO is age.

On a different angle....while wins make up for almost everything, I'd be lying if I said that losing their only two good white players doesn't bother me a little.

Can't get locked into a contract like Parsons. Dude's not a $15M a year player (yet).

Let's see what else happens before disbanding the team. If they get all these S&Ts executed and get any serviceable bigs there or elsewhere, you're not worse than you were last year at least. The one thing I know for sure is Morey never stops...

Trading Chandler Parsons, Jeremy Lin, Omer Asik, a first round pick and a second round pick for Trevor Ariza and a protected first round pick is pretty awful.
Texas A&M
How long do you want to ignore this user?
GS - If that was all one deal and they were done, sure I might agree with you. We've already determined that Parson and Ariza are close enough that it isn't a significant loss. Lin is a good backup, but can be replaced. The first round picks don't bother me where the rockets should be picking over the next few years. The only one that worries now is losing Asik. Are the Rockets significantly better, no. Are they significantly worse, we'll see but probably not. While we're not trending the right direction yet, the sky isn't falling either.

What is hard to comprehend that Morey HAD to take a gamble? Lin and Asik were dead weight that had to be moved. So really it was trading Parsons for Ariza + 8 million a year. Morey isn't done, did Houston get better? No. However they're also not done yet either. So I doubt they get worse

He didn't have to take a gamble on letting Parsons out of his $1mm contract at all.

He failed horribly.

At this point, they are significantly worse. And there aren't a lot of free agent players right now that would make them significantly better.

We have? Parsons' passing is partly what allowed us to play Beverley in the starting lineup. We have two 3-and-D players in our starting lineup and no real distributor. Plus no defense off the bench and no Asik.

Trading Ariza for Parsons makes them significantly worse? I don't think people realize how HORRIBLE Jeremy Lin was, shedding him was a HUGE win. People nationally have been blasting LA for picking him up because he's terrible

I'm very happy Lin is gone. He was a terrible fit once Harden came on board.
