I hope us. Because I think we have to keep him now. Otherwise we have a gaping hole at PF and a massive hole at backup C. Keep Asik for the last year of his contract and try to address that situation next year IMO

If Boozer is amnestied as what is being reported, I'd love to bring him in. Also I think we'll see more Nick Johnson than Canaan.

Pierce going to the Wizards, where Ariza was last year.

The SF market is starting to become non-existent with Pierce out too. When Cuban got Parsons to sign the offer sheet it definitely put Morey in a tough spot. Now the tables have turned. Cuban can't do much until the Rockets respond, and I would expect Morey to wait until the last minute possible.

Supposedly Stephenson is next on the Mavs' list, above Deng. Should be interesting to see what type of deal they offer, assuming the Rockets match Parsons.

Is the plan to match Parsons and bring Ariza of the bench? I'm not sure how that would work with both starting. I don't think Parsons can be a stretch 4 and Houston still need one.

I guess the other option is let Parsons walk and hope you get Bledsoe?

The idea would be to have your same starting lineup as last year by matching parsons. Then you would have Ariza coming off the bench with Nick Johnson, Troy Daniels, D-Mo, etc....

Assuming the Asik deal goes through at some point today we will need a backup Center

I'd be OK with Ariza coming off the bench. And keeping asik a at this point seems to be the thing to do but that first from NO would sure be nice. But I guess that's only if they can get a back up center.

Almost impossible to get Bledsoe.

We simply dont have the cap space to offer something that phoenix wont immediately match. I think our only hope is that they will take Asik in a sign and trade. Barring that, we should keep Omer. He is a damn good player and we should actually be playing him more and Dwight less so that they both stay fresh.

Dwight played the least minutes per game he has since his rookie year last year. He was still fresh and actually played the best he did all year in the playoffs. We don't need to play him even less minutes.

But we do need another post defender.

Yea if the trade goes through sending Asik to the Pelicans you definitely need someone to backup Dwight.

Im not saying Asik wouldnt be great in that role, but I think that ship has sailed

problem is after signing ariza and matching parsons you cant just ship asik off for picks because there inst any cap room to sign a viable replacement. i think if you trade him now you have to get a quality role player in return maybe a guy with a few years left on their contract that another team is trying move to clear space for next year or 2016.

Agreed. Just hope he doesn't have an "injury" like last year due to hurt feelings

"For those who asked, deadline for the Rockets to match Chandler Parsons' 3-year, $46 million offer sheet from Dallas is midnight ET tonight"

Apparently we have until midnight to match.

In the last 72 hours, Morey went from looking like a bonehead (allowing Cuban to give Parsons that crazy offer), to looking like a genius (almost getting Bosh and keeping Parsons) to now looking like a bonehead (matching the Parsons offer after offering Ariza).

Then again, if Parsons makes the transition to a stretch 4 and the Mavs are unable to sign Deng or Stephenson, he will look like a genius again. Both are HUGE ifs though.

This stuff is funny.
Ryan34

I don't think he's a bonehead for matching after signing Ariza. Ariza can guard the 2 or 3 and Parsons can play some stretch 4, depending on the opponent's lineup. He added a quality bench player while keeping his core intact. That's a win for me.

I doubt Dwight has ever played at this pace in his career, but I could be wrong. I think you can get even more out of him on the defensive side of the ball if you push him down a couple of minutes.

Plus I like what we get out of Omer. When Dwight is rolling he demands the ball in post and the offense becomes iso heavy. Omer is a 100% team player. He sets fantastic screens and the ball moves really well when he is in the game. He had a greater problem catching the ball this year than last year and I think it is due to lack of touches. Playing Omer 3-5 more minutes will actually make him and the team stronger.

Unless you have the unquestioned best player on the planet, the only way you win a title is with a team effort. Unfortunately, that wont happen while McHale is around. His lack of offensive scheming causes us to rely heavily on James, Dwight and Chandler for points. This creates a star based system where guys stop playing D to save themselves for offense. We need a true team concept. To do that, I think we need to share more minutes, and begin to manufacture SOME offense via design.

I posted on a Rockets thread last year saying we should split more minutes using the Spurs as an example. The response I got was that we didn't have the depth and we had much younger players who could take the minutes. #1) Depth is created throughout the regular season #2) Even young players get tired. Overplaying your stars is shortsighted. Just ask Lebron.

Lakers officially acquire Jeremy Lin, two future draft picks from Rockets for rights to Sergei Lishchuk -via SportsCenter http://bit.ly/zzSpRY

Omer is a big liability on offense. He's never been good at simply catching the ball, and he's a weak finisher. Dwight commands attention and it opens the lane a ton. Plus Dwight runs the floor much better than Omer. Omer is a very good defensive center but we are so much better with Dwight in.

8 mil for a quality bench player is A LOT of money.

Hope the Parsons Stretch 4 experiment works out for guys. Morey is basically putting his reputation on the line with it.
Ryan34

Parsons has always played some stretch 4. And with the salary cap increasing, player salaries will go up as well. That's what I love about the Ariza contract. By the end of that deal, his salary will be a steal compared to the % of the cap.

If we go into the season with Parsons as a stretch 4 Aldridge, Griffin, Ibaka etc are going to be screaming BBQ CHICKEN
