This might be my new favorite thread.... I've always been interested in this kinda thing... and when you start talking about it to people... they tend to look at you like you are crazy :-( I feel like I've watched every Joe Rogan video with all the science guys in the last year just gaining random knowledge.

I just finished watching one about to Big Bang with Brian Greene... that was some DEEP *****!!

I've finally learned to just say "f/ck it" and not give a sh/t what anyone else thinks. I love this subject matter, am a skeptical person by nature, but absolutely believe a percentage of it to be real, based on the evidence and overwhelming testimony form impeccable and highly trained eye-witnesses. It also helps that the government is literally beginning to admit the reality, that the media doesn't scoff at the subject matter in the way they used to, and that more and more credible individuals are coming forward with their knowledge and stories. In fact, I would be willing to bet just about anything that within the next decade - if not in the next five years - we'll live in a world in which extraterrestrials are a known fact, and this whole tin-foil-hat stigma will be a thing of the past.

I've had this whole conversation and not to get to deep into religion as you requested... but I stated my points... and it was like watched my dads light come on, and he was like well hell you make some valid statements... and then my mom looks at me like I'm crazy and needs to to have holy water thrown on me lol. I made a statement something like if this were true it could lead to a fall out of religion and having people literally jumping off bridges commuting suicide. I could see where something like that could happen where people couldn't handle that everything they were told was a lie. I think we should never stop asking why?

Also I loved that documentary the Unacknowledged that's on Amazon Prime, it was REALLY good.

Should disclosure ever happen, there are days I'm convinced the super-religious will either lose their minds, or desperately try to explain it all away as Satan and his minions. Just anything to make it make sense according to their own world views. But then I think how last year the government straight up admitted that our airspace is being invaded by exotic technology they literally can't identify... and society either missed the news completely, or gave a collective shrug and went back to their business. So I have no idea what the actual reality will be.

As for the religious angle, in general, I actually enjoy having that conversation. It's just that there are a few individuals in the F16 thread that are hell bent on turning the conversation into either to their own personal Christian witness session (which is fine, but not in a UFO thread), or get into Ancient Aliens territory with all kinds of sh/tty YouTube links to insane videos made by clearly deranged people (and this coming from someone who actually enjoys Ancient Aliens, but this stuff is even far worse than that). So I'd just like to avoid all that here if possible, and keep it focused in the realm of what the 60 Minutes segment is likely to focus on.

Also, I definitely need to check out Unacknowledged. I've heard the title, but have yet to give it a shot. Thanks for the heads up.

Do you remember all the UFO stories in the 70s and 80s? Also, do you remember all the Bigfoot stories in those days?

How many eye-witness sightings did we hear about where no one had a camera? Fast forward to 2021 where everyone has a camera all the time, and they keep it in their hand and powered on even while driving, jogging, walking in the mall, etc.

The UFO and Bigfoot stories sure have slowed down, haven't they? iPhone killed the idea of UFOs and Bigfoot, but we've got an insane amount of fail videos and Mr. Beast to entertain us.

I'd love to find out that the all powerful government has proof of aliens, but I'm doubtful.

That's... actually not at all true. There are more compelling amateur videos now than ever. Granted, sure, no crystal clear, unmistakable close-ups from civilians, but one thing that's rumored to be part of this government report next month is incredibly compelling photographic evidence from many of these pilots.

Luis Elizondo, the former head of the Pentagon's UAP Taskforce, subject of the infamous 2017 NYT article, and one of the most credible figures in the field, has said, while employed by the Pentagon, he's seen with his own eyes the photographic evidence the government has on file, and says there are some shots taken from as close as a few feet away, showing unmistakable, propulsion-less craft, unlike anything we know of in any country's inventory, including our own.

I suspect the public MIGHT see one or two of these image next month, but who knows.

How has a thread on this board gone so long without a single video or picture of a UFO? 100s of millions of high def cameras in the hands of millions of people in every part of the world, including military and civilian pilots, and we don't have a single compelling, clear picture of a UFO? How about all of the ring doorbells, dashboard cams, weather cams, web cams, and traffic cams? The entire earth is basically being recorded for the last 10 years, and millions of cameras have somehow missed any good footage? That's the part of all of this that doesn't add up.

I'd love to be wrong, but humans aren't that good at keeping secrets.

I appreciate your openness to such an explanation.

The word elohim does have a lot of explanatory power, but you really need someone who both understands ancient Hebrew AND its contextual historical use.

Michael Heiser does (he's Protestant, I am not) - I'd start with The Unseen Realm.

I'm "super religious", and don't know a single person that would act irrationally or suicidal. In fact, the Catholic Church recently acknowledged the possibility of ETs.

Lots of wishful thinking about the suicides and all, which is beyond sick. The existence of ETs doesn't prove God is a fabrication.

And I don't know one single person hoping for Christians to commit suicide. You are jumping right back with your own assumptions. But I think there would be some Christians who would not be ok with it. And I'm not necessarily talking about you, I'm talking about the people who believe dinosaurs are a conspiracy.

By the way, my favorite episode of TV dealing with discovering alien life has to be the South Park Pinewood Derby episode.

It is like a little bit of forum 16 right here! Feels a bit like the Q-thingy - unavoidably political.

The govt acknowledging something in this area, to ME, would not be a big deal. What would be a big deal is if ETs give enough of a crap to make real mass contact. Personally I think we are too insignificant, backwards and not worth it. Kind of like a little ant hill on some field that you either don't know or care about it. We think of ourselves as remarkable. But are we?

I don't think it necessarily leads to a fall-out of religion...human society has (unfortunately) been doing a pretty good job of that on its own for many years and people are turning to many other things. That would also have to assume such a discovery would give THE answer to the universe or Creator. I'm not convinced it would.

But it's still a lot of assumption and...faith...at this point.

I mean, you have people that scoff at the personal accounts in the Bible, particularly the New Testament. But yet people will take the possible existence of UFO's (from personal accounts) but then draw major conclusions like they're actual beings from other dimensions that are millions of years ahead and could be the ones who created us...and that somehow with all that power and technology, none of them have desires to use it against us after all these years, they're just observers. I just find some irony in it because that also takes a lot of faith based on the little that's out there.

I don't doubt there are unexplained phenomena out there. And it is interesting that the government is loosening its transparency on the subject...to a degree. But one thing we do know is that the government has no problem lying and concealing, and that ain't changing. I'm just not convinced they're all of a sudden going to open the doors and let us in on the 'secret'.

I'm sure the pilots and commanders that witness these occurrences have no idea what they're dealing with. But do we really think the government would admit to them and to us "Oh yeah, what our military saw was our tech and testing...move along" if it was? It's interesting how many of these occurrences happen near a military facility or something military related. What we've also learned from history is that governments are capable of a lot more than they let on. But I do get why people are curious. In terms of the unexplained that people have actually seen, it is fascinating. The Phenomenon has been on my watch-list for a while, I just haven't gotten around to it.

And to show I'm not trying to make this too serious...I'll lay down some mood music:

Until proven otherwise I tend to go with the simpler idea that this stuff is either extremely low tech from our adversaries like this article states:
https://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/40054/adversary-drones-are-spying-on-the-u-s-and-the-pentagon-acts-like-theyre-ufos

Or extremely high tech secret tests. The first flight of the B-2 was in 1989 (that we know of) and first flight of SR-71 was 1964 (that we know of). Anyone seeing those planes, and a few other test planes, at those times had to believe it was a UFO.

The other thing that is hard to have a conversation with people without them looking at you crazy.... is what happens one day when all the facts hit the table.... and you find out that your neighbor, your (insert whatever) is an alien. You find out people you look up to, or that hold some kind of big office is an alien of some kinda. Between that and religion, I think if something like that happened people would lose their minds.

I am also kinda firm believe in the whole science fiction is science fact. Tom from blink 182 really does a good job describing how they are using science fiction movies to help groom us into technology. Star Trek for example... communicators were a thing only seen in movies, and now I can talk to my watch.... movies like Men In Black. Most of y'all will laugh at me, but what if stuff like that is going on. One of the best scenes in that movie is when K is talking to jay on the park bench in NYC before he becomes an agent and say the whole, a person is smart, but people are dumb... and imagine what you'll learn tomorrow...

How did no one respond to this? Let's hear some of these stories already?!?!?

Thought for sure he was about to follow up. Would absolutely love to hear whatever he has to say.
I have a friend (former boss' husband) who has been a longtime pilot and this subject came up one time when we grabbed a couple beers and had time to kill.

The quick version of his story is that it's just a different world up there and that there are crazy things that happen. He said 95% of it is somewhat explainable by things we know, or has plausible reasons that you saw what you saw. The last 5% is just unexplainable stuff that he had no idea about.

His general perception is that the sky is kind of like the ocean - we just haven't explored it enough to know 100% of what's going on and we get caught off guard from time to time. He is generally dismissive of 99% of any "UFO sightings" because of this reason.

Ugh.

In.

I will say that the reason that these ideas are so readily scoffed at is the sheer number of people who are so rigid in their thinking they simply can't imagine anything that does not use human states of references or minds. Or that our understanding of science is 100% complete and right.
