For all the allegations of deadly cover-ups, there sure have been a whole bunch of people "revealing the shocking truth" for the last 30 or 40 years without disappearing. In fact, it seems to be a profitable niche industry. And I would say many of those people making a living off of "ufology" do more harm than good for people who want this topic to be taken seriously.

I'd be OK w/ STAFF removing more of your derailment posts.

There's long been a popular theory among UFO discussion groups that the gov't uses fanciful enthusiasts like Linda Moulton Howe or the ancient astronaut guys to distract from real, observable phenomena.

I can see why some think that, just by looking at some of the stuff that pops up every time the topic is discussed on texags. "Pay no attention to the credible eyewitnesses! Instead, watch hundreds of hours of 2006-era YouTube quality 'documentaries' featuring monotone middleaged cat-dads talking about nothing!" "No no, they're not aliens, they're demons! Read the Old Testament!" "Rubbish! They're not demons, they're clearly manifestations of the Triune god, but the powers who control this message board don't want me to post what I really know!!!"

Your posts got removed because a few posters shifted the topic from Aliens to "60 Minutes is Satan" and some politician is either the best/worst guy of all time. I flagged the same posts, because I don't come to F13 to read F16. I got a post deleted the other day on the Pearl Harbor thread for joking that things might have been different if Johnny Manziel had been in charge that day. It's really not that big of a deal.

My first comment on this thread - which was very close to 30 Stars in less than 24 hours - was a timestamp first response about 2 min. after OP stating I was already aware of the program - which I was.

So now my total Star count has been lowered, and by a fairly significant margin, for a simple statement of fact.

Watched the piece. It's well done and features some new testimony - the second pilot especially. There's a few pictures that were new to me also. However I'm stuck with a few issues:

1. They repeatedly mention "the Pentagon" as confirming that the videos are authentic. I assume that means they don't believe they were doctored, fake, etc. They don't actually have a spokesman on, just relaying that message. Would have been great to have the follow up question of "...and does the Pentagon think it's a UFO (or UAP or whatever)?"

2. No new video. They show the gimbal video, the moving blob video, and the obviously normal airplane out-of-focus video. They include several pictures that must have been very close, but the aviators didn't take video. This doesn't outright mean it's fake but... if you are having what they said to be "daily" encounters... why the hell aren't you taking sh-loads of video? The skeptic has the easiest answer - "because it's a lot easier to fake a picture".

3. Of the videos they showed, the triangular blinking video is a plane or helicopter. It's just out of focus. Throw that video away forever please.

4. My biggest problem is that there's still no compelling evidence. Yet again, the most fantastic evidence is things that people said, and not the photo or video. There's blinky lights and blobs. There's mentions of satellite images, radar captures, weapons systems, etc. None of those showed up. The Nimitz and Roosevelt cases supposedly had near contact including a near-miss. Nobody has the incident reports, physical evidence, or anything else.

It's neat TV and worth watching. It begs the question of "if nothing happened, why are these supposedly expert opinions lying?" and I don't have a good answer for that. All that said... it's still more likely that people would lie, than there exists craft that completely disobey the laws of physics, manmade or otherwise.

It seems to me that we're finally in the unbiased evidence gathering stage of UAP. From the 2-3 MSM long form articles I read over the weekend that make me a subject matter expert a common complaint about Project Blue Book and others is that the investigators already had a conclusion of what these objects were (nothing to see here) prior to reviewing the data. That's not the right way to approach this.

Similarly, the taboo around reporting strange things lest you have a career dead end for being a 'crank' is finally being lifted. An analogy I'll make is that it's similar to LSD/MDMA/Psilocybin research in curing mental illness. The stigma of researching drugs is finally being lifted, but it took a long time due to the war on drugs and corresponding hippies/counter-culture types that marred any legitimate research by reputation. Finally the military is saying if you see something, it doesn't mean you're going to use spirit crystals to summon aliens.

I don't think you can totally discount the "bread and circuses" angle about why this sort of reporting may exist. Conventional wisdom for why the alien angle was created for Roswell was to distract the public from other things going on (classified weapon system, something Russian, etc.). This could be something like that.

"Hey things aren't going so hot... let's put something else in the news cycle."

But the fact that this all spans administrations lends weight to alternate theories as to why this is being talked about now.
