I will add that you also see sorcery as inherent to the individual. They can just do it naturally whereas wizards have to "learn" it. To build on what was already said.

Why do people like Walker? At least based on this episode, he seems arrogant and cocky. Doesn't pull it off like Tony
I don't think he is though. That locker room scene shows a lot of uncertainty.

I watched both episodes this week for the first time and thing it's fantastic, really enjoying it more than I did Wandavision to date. No matter what the new CA looked/acted like, Marvel knows the majority of people aren't going to like him because he's not Steve. This guy is a lot cockier than Steve, but is he all that different from pre-Avengers Steve? Wants to get the bad guys and is following the chain of command. A guy naming himself Battlestar made me die laughing - that's an American Gladiator name if there ever was one.

I really appreciate that the pairing is 100% the opposite of what I assumed it would be going in. Both guys really struggling to find their niche - Falcon helps save the Universe, but doesn't make much money. Bucky survives the ultimate fight and has no idea what he's supposed to do next. Sebastian Shan blew me away with his line about Cap being wrong about him.

Really fascinated with the One People movement because if people were nicer and helped each other more during the Blip, that sort of sounds like the exact thing Thanos was saying would be better. Not the genocide, but the idea that fewer people makes a better world.

Definitely ready for some Shannon Carter. I can't remember who, but someone here is on my squad of proclaiming her the hottest Marvel chick.

My one minor gripe is that Sam is way too acrobatic with the wings on. I understand he developed them from the get-go but if you could move like that in the air it seems like you'd never come down to the ground.

I've really liked the two episodes so far. The race stuff took me a little by surprise in the first episode but you could see it coming a mile away in episode two. Ultimately I didn't think it was overly preachy or obtrusive. Just a nod that those feelings exist and it's part of a life experience.

I like that they brought in Walker, and I knew him a little from the comics but its been interesting to read up on the comic history of him and the flag smashers and power broker. I didn't get too much into it but it will be exciting to see where they take it.

There has been some fun dialog- the Hobbit, the big 3. I loved when Bucky asked JW if he'd ever jumped on a grenade like Steve and JW responded "Yeah, 4 times. I have this thing I do with my helmet..."

This was the 1st time in the episode where I thought his arrogance came through, subtle as it was. Then he had that smug "this guy" deal when asked who authorized the stuff with Bucky at the police station, and obviously, the threat to Sam and Bucky.

The first scene tried to paint him as the humble, just trying to do the best, kind of guy...but everything after that was downhill for him, imo.

Just had an out of left field thought, but Zemo killed off the other Winter Soldiers in Civil War because he said he didn't want to see more of them in the world. I wonder if Marvel will pull the old switcharoo and make him a pseudo good guy here. Helping Sam and Bucky stop/prevent more super soldiers from being created.

I was thinking they may use him as a Hannibal Lector to help track down who is making the new super soldiers.

Yeah I think so far that actor is nailing it. I think the cockiness in front of Sam and Bucky is an act almost as much as the humility on camera was.

I assume he's not long for this world though.

We laughed b/c after profiling Sam, the cops actually end up arresting the white guy. People standing around are like, "didn't see that coming".

The scene was maybe a little forced but I also like that the MCU is finally showing race issues in their universe. The only other illusion to anything race related was in CA: Winter Soldier when the Hydra agents were dressed as police and staring down Nick Fury and he says "you wanna see my registration" as he thinks they are just white cops staring down a black guy in a nice car. But it was very subtle and obviously we learn they are not cops immediately when they attack Fury.

It has always thrown me off knowing that the Army and military in general was segregated yet Cap's commando unit is kind of a "Benetton" of races and nationalities that probably would never have actually happened in First Avenger. Now we can see more real world issues which makes that universe more layered and realistic.

Wasn't the Korean War the first time blacks and whites were integrated in battle? Korean War is definitely the forgotten war, few movies about it. It was a challenging war too. A lot of potential for good storytelling. I hope we see that fight between Isaiah and winter soldier someday.

My memories of watching MASH tell my this is correct.

There is a great army video for m ww2 that tells soldier about the cultural differences between the UK and home. One of the most shocking is when they touch on race relations.

If you are bored, it is an entertaining listen

As a bonus, the lead is the penguin

Jump to 25:15 or so for the part I was referring to.

It really is a goldmine of storytelling that is just sitting there untouched. Almost no one in this country knows sh^t about it or anything that happened.

I just wonder how much of the window is closed on it from a source material perspective.

What a great observation. It is almost like it could be used as the backdrop for a long running dramady. I bet it would probably end up being viewed as one of the greatest works of Television ever made.

Yes, it came after Truman's EO to desegregate the armed forces. However, a lot of commanders essentially refused or undermined the order (including MacArthur).

One of those really good potential stories to tell is Thurgood Marshall investigating courts martial of black soldiers in the 24th infantry. MacArthur gave Marshall a lot of freedom in the investigation and the results were a problem for the army (ex. life sentences given for AWOL convictions following 5 min trial where the accused produced multiple witnesses prepared to testify the accused was not AWOL).

I feel like you are being slightly sarcastic but I can't quite tell....

If MASH is our on film gold standard for the Korean War and that's all we ever really get then that is kind of pathetic.

[BTW, the movie was better than the tv show.]

Agree on Korea being overlooked. Most people think MASH was Vietnam. Other than a few scenes from Mad Men, I cant really think of anything else that spends any time on the Korean War.

Couple days ago I was watching a video on carrier history and realized I don't know anything about the Korean War.

edit to add another tangent: There was a time in this country were an entire generation or two knew nothing but war. WW2 > Korea > Vietnam basically non-stop from 1939 to 1973.

Movies with any kind of Korea setting/focus that I can think of off the top of my head, the aforementioned M*A*S*H (and its TV offshoot), The Bridges at Toko-Ri, MacArthur, and Inchon. There should be more made about that war.

To be fair, this could be said for almost every peice of art/media created from The gulf of tonkin to the first shot of Desert Storm.

Yall can go into this nonsense, but not viewing formats?

Let's bring it back now.

Big-time character cameo expected in episode 5. This is always the episode where the writer expected people to cry.

My guess, 100% guess, not read any leaks (if there are any) is old man Cap. Or maybe... Mephisto.

That may be true.

I've been guessing Zemo tells the old man Buck killed his son. Or the old man finds out another way.

That's a solid guess. It covers the potential crying, but who would the cameo be?

Yeah I really wish I didn't know something emotional coming up in episode 5. That's the kind of crap that sits in my head permanently until the credits roll on that episode. I'm less likely to be shocked if someone guarantees something will shock me.
