I have to say I do wish all Marvel and other high production value series would film in standard tv 16:9 ratio. Truth be told I didn't notice the aspect ratio on this.

I had zero expectations going in to this but damned of that wasn't a great episode. That canyon scene was probably the best 10 minutes of tv action ive seen.

This is on topic cause screen resolution was a huge part of WandaVision and how marvel tells stories. I mentioned it previously but for big cinematic stories, it SHOULD be in 2.35:1 (CinemaScope). 16:9 says the shows like the office and CSI. That's what I think sets these "TV shows" apart from a regular tv show.

By the way, RE-iterate, LOVED the first episode. Watched it again with kiddos... notes from re-watch:

1) my 8 year old daughter picked up on Buckys sins against the young man and his grieving father right off the bat... I missed that and she picked up quickly... then her 6 yr old brother picked up what she was saying. Right away. I guess I'm dense.

2) agree with others that the bubba gump scenes did drag a little too much and I'll give that arc a chance... I'm hoping they don't get too distracted with that line... or prove me wrong (which they tend to do in these).

3) kids also noticed right away to not like new CA. They are quite insightful.

4) The Bucky thread was the heart string pull for me... the psych scene was very interesting and compelling and has me sympathizing with this character and his skeletons quite a bit.

5) this will be fun! Again!

I just think it should be made in the ideal format for 99.9% of the audience, who will watch it at home on a tv.

I'm sure for projectors and stuff, the cinematic ratio is better.

In fact I kind of wish ZSJL had the option for 16:9. In fact it would've been even better than movie ratio since it would've chopped off less of the picture on top and bottom.

So is this the first time we have had two generations of actors in the MCU? Trying to think of any other parent/child combos, but I'm blanking.

That was an awesome first episode!

The canyon scene... DOPE!.... Bucky with his psychiatrist... damn, that was some deep stuff. (Being alone)... Bucky with the older Asian guy, and that being his son!! I was like omg please don't tell him please don't tell him! It was funny how he said people taking pictures with tigers on dating apps... I'm guessing that was shot in 2020 when tiger king was big? I liked seeing Rhodes in there, wasn't expecting that, hope we get more random small cameos.

As far as timeline... we are post blip... wandavision happens like weeks after... spider man 2 was 3 months after? And is this somewhere in that ballpark as well?

I accidentally read this before watching the episode and was pissed I let myself be spoiled. Except I thought it was something completely different. I kept expecting the older Asian guy to BE his son. Like, Bucky hooked up with a Japanese woman during his WWII tour, she got pregnant, and then Bucky somehow managed to reconnect with his son all these years later. So I was pleasantly surprised when that turned out not to be the case. Though, now I do kind of want to see that basic idea explored...
Except, as far as we know, Bucky was only in Europe during WWII

They had some clever flying in that opening scene. I love when they dispel any "what's cool about a dude with wings" thoughts and have him jetpack punch and fly through the helicopter doors to save a guy and drag a missile into said copter. That was pretty sweet.

One of the things I liked in the first episode was the use of Bucky's age. It's going to get old if they keep referencing it too much, but for that episode it was great.

We're kind of getting the Bucky version of Steve reintegrating back into the new world. Bucky has a flip phone just like Steve did and gave to Stark.

I read one of the directors said episode 5 was their favorite and had the potential to make people cry. I wonder if we're going to get a scene where the old man finds out it was Bucky who killed his son or if Bucky has to actually tell him.

This is dumb but my only complaint is that gatling machine gun on the tiny drone. The physics just would not work. The recoil on that gun would flip that drone all over the place.

Otherwise I loved it!

I pictured a little belt-fed BB gun. Where's he sourcing those 2mm rounds that can tear through a combat aircraft?! Depleted Uranium or something?

Is the question about superheros who are offspring of other superheros? Or just two generations of characters?

Aunt May, Peter Parker (maybe this one didn't count since she's not his parent)
Hawkeye, Hawkeye's kids
Howard Stark,Tony Stark
Odin & Frigga, Thor

I dont think it lacks context or is ambiguous at all. Its just a "well, duh"

What would it even be competing against? WandaVision and The Mandalorian from back when the service just launched? I think obviously more people would get in on day 1 for this after a build up from WandaVision. I can make an amazing "prediction" right now that Loki will set this record too, as it will be more anticipated than Falcon+Winter Soldier.

I think you can also glean from the use of "series premiere" and also be fairly certain that less people watched Falcon and Winter Soldier than watched the season 2 premiere of The Mandalorian (which is another "well, duh")

Until the next Star Wars show.

It's kind of like Endgame and Avatar. They'll each take turns being #1.

According to a leak Episode 2 is 50 min and James and Sam reunite.

Nothing shocking in the spoiler, but playing it safe.

I finally got to watch episode 1 tonight. That was a solid opening. I didn't expect such a deep look into these characters, as in meeting Sam's sister and nephews in Louisiana. The look into Barnes' psych session felt real world, and then we get a good glimpse of what he's going through with the Japanese man and the son Barnes apparently killed.

I also loved the big action piece with Falcon chasing down the cargo plane and his encounter with a familiar face - Batroc. Cap kicked his ass, and now will Sam follow suit?

Looking foward to how this series plays out.

unlike Juan Division, all of them are supposed to be about the same length of 50 minutes.

The opening sequence was awesome, but canyon chases always crack me up. Why follow someone into a tight canyon, just fly above them and shoot down. Where are they gonna go?

I've missed all of the conversation so far so something along these lines has been covered I'm sure, but a buddy of mine and I were watching this together and I had to pause it for a ten minute debate about whether the general population knows (or should know) who Bucky is or not.

would have been a 10 second convo with me " of course they do now unpause and quit talking during the show "
