It was better than Wandavision episode 1, but not episode 2. The first episode felt uneven. I liked the Bucky parts but not Falcon (except for the opening). The Louisiana scenes were weak.

I liked the stuff in LA. If the premise of those show is exploring how the blip effected everyone you need stuff like that. Plus the logistics how super heroes get paid is interesting to me. I don't need to see a ton more scenes of Sam talking through a business plan or planing to go on Shark Tank but it was effective.

Interesting at all the "meh" responses. I thought it was a better first episode than Wanda 1st and 2nd, combined.

I'd put an episode of grass growing about on par with the first episode, second wasn't much better.

Sam sure seemed a lot stronger than before in the opening sequence. Almost like he was throwing humans around on the plane like CA (and without assistance from the jetpack/wings).

I know it was mentioned on another thread (or maybe this thread) how WS was as strong as he needed to be to serve the story, so maybe that's the same thing going on here...

Except it appears all those dudes got back up pretty quick. Cap or Bucky would have had them down for the count.

I liked it, but I did get a bit of a rushed feeling. Not a big deal, for me.

I do wonder how much race is going to play in this show. Sam says he doesn't mess around with white folks, the sister makes a comment about it to the banker, and obviously the gov's idea of captain America is a white guy. Maybe it's like WandaVision, where they kind of made a couple eyeroll jokes at 60/70s chauvinism and never touched it again.

I believe race is gonna be a factor in this show given a few comments from some staff on the show. That bank scene wasn't there to comment on Stark being richer than everyone else.

Just a quick note that you can't just "land" on flying plane and peek in the window. (It would be more like Spiderman Homecoming.) Also, it would be so loud/windy that there's no way you make radio transmissions with your inside voice.

I did comment to my family that it was WAY too quiet when they lowered the ramp in the cargo plane and when he was in the plane with the door missing.

I thought the episode was a bit meh. It just didn't pull me in, but we'll see what the future brings. Thought the scenes between Sam and his sister felt a little flat. And the bank loan scene made me think of Futurama:

You know one cool thing about Endgame jumping ahead to 2023 is that with all the time lost to lockdown, they're still a little ahead but our present is quickly catching up to them rather than them having to do a time jump eventually.

I think Sam is still from LA because Anthony Mackie is from LA. Maybe they felt it was an clearer way to relate him to the common man? Or the common man post-Blip? Or maybe they're saving Harlem for Luke Cage or something.

I've read a lot of comics (though not Sam Wilson as Cap) and I've never really associated him with Harlem that much. Maybe "post-disaster Louisiana" is a more visually compelling shortcut to this Blip life than more New York would be. I dunno.

I enjoyed him being from the South. We have enough superheroes from NYC.

Really liked the first episode! I was a little surprised they didn't start Sam and Bucky off together.

I thought it was interesting seeing how everyone is handling post blip with everyone coming back and the idea that old alliances have changed. I wonder how if that's going to come into play.

I actually was surprised it ended where it did and wished the episodes were longer.

Not to be "that guy" but I was disappointed the bad guys plan to escape involved wing suits from a plane to a helicopter vs. a guy that can literally fly.

I don't think they were planning for Falcon to show up. They just planned to jump from the US military plane to be helicopters.

Why did they want to kidnap a US service member?

Probably Mephisto.

Watched it again and I liked it better the 2nd time. Still, I'm ready for the team up to happen.

Also, really enjoyed the screen crush video. He couldn't completely stay away from some theories, but there was some self awareness there

The wing suit/ helicopter stuff was incredible, especially considering it wasn't for a movie.

I mean, the physics of Falcon, a normal human, flying through exploding rock and not getting knocked out cold by some debris is mind-boggling... but the combination of CGI and real stunts (I'm assuming) was phenomenally well done.
It reminded me a lot of pod racing.

Didn't Anthony Mackie make his debut in one of the transformer movies that featured body suit skydiving?

I liked it. Very much a world-building episode, but I can tell I'm going to like where the two leads go character-wise.

I enjoyed it, but it was underwhelming and I thought the production value wasn't great at some points.
Boy, I thought the opposite. I'm no expert and usually don't notice such things, but I thought it was big budget feature quality.

I really enjoyed the episode. I was in from the beginning.

Same. The production value blew me away. It was indistinguishable from a movie for me, more so than the even final couple episodes of WandaVision. Even the more monotonous scenes looked cinematic, like it was all shot on film, etc. And the opening sequence might be the first time I've ever thought, "How did they do that?" re: the special effects in a TV show. That said, the choice to spend so much time on Sam's family's financial situation was... interesting. Especially for a pilot for an MCU series. But I'm sure it's necessary groundwork, which, if so, I can appreciate. Definitely looking forward to seeing where all this goes.

That was an awesome first episode!

The canyon scene... DOPE!.... Bucky with his psychiatrist... damn, that was some deep stuff. (Being alone)... Bucky with the older Asian guy, and that being his son!! I was like omg please don't tell him please don't tell him! It was funny how he said people taking pictures with tigers on dating apps... I'm guessing that was shot in 2020 when tiger king was big? I liked seeing Rhodes in there, wasn't expecting that, hope we get more random small cameos.

As far as timeline... we are post blip... wandavision happens like weeks after... spider man 2 was 3 months after? And is this somewhere in that ballpark as well?

I accidentally read this before watching the episode and was pissed I let myself be spoiled. Except I thought it was something completely different. I kept expecting the older Asian guy to BE his son. Like, Bucky hooked up with a Japanese woman during his WWII tour, she got pregnant, and then Bucky somehow managed to reconnect with his son all these years later. So I was pleasantly surprised when that turned out not to be the case. Though, now I do kind of want to see that basic idea explored...

The only thing that truly bothered me was the 2:35 aspect ratio, with the black bars on top and bottom. I get that these are, essentially, extended MCU movies, split into episodes, and that Disney/Marvel are trying to establish a consistency in the look/presentation across film and TV. But in the booming streaming age, content that debuts on TV - and will almost assuredly never be shown in theaters unless on rare occasions - should fill my 16x9 screen. For films that debuted in theaters at 2:35, and are now on streaming, sure, by all means, retain the original aspect ratio. But Disney is cheating themselves - and their audience - by not allowing the image of their original Disney+ content to fill our increasingly large TV screens. This was especially notable in the season two episode of The Mandalorian where they fought the sandworm and that entire sequence expanded to 16x9 in IMAX fashion. Which looked incredible. But then when it switched back to 2:35, everything felt small and contained again, and somehow less cinematic. I used to love 2:35, but now I think I prefer almost everything - even films in the theater - at 16x9. Fill my screen, Disney!

Yeah, but you can get the same width/horizontal expanse and then *also* add more picture to the top and bottom. You don't lose anything by going 16x9. You gain more image. Especially with the way theater screens are designed nowadays, to go 2:35 they essentially "shrink" the image and add the black bars on top and bottom, while keeping the same horizontal width. The screen doesn't expand horizontally to go 16x9.

I get it, though. I get wanting that 2:35, CinemaScope vibe.

I guess, just having spent so much time watching stuff at home this past year, combined with the awesome experience in recent years of IMAX theaters expanding vertically for IMAX-shot sequences, I'm preferring more and more to have my 16x9 TV filled in much the same way, with a huge image that touches every corner, and same goes for the theater.
