My question regarding your earlier comment was: "How is not wanting to be part of the US inconsistent with wanting to be independent?"

What part of running with his hair on fire to the Danish overlords "we choose Denmark" or hiring a pro-China FM supports becoming independent?

Because it's Greenland's choice? Not wanting to be annexed by the US and having relations with China--as the US does--isn't inconsistent with being independent. Sticking with Denmark in the interim as Greenlanders plan incremental steps towards independence--as you earlier pointed out--also isn't inconsistent with that ultimate goal, either.

How is taking Greenland taken seriously at all when Trump threatens military action. to me you should lose any credible people that would back such a plan. This can't be all Trump's idea if it is in this confirms that he is a complete buffoon

trump insists we need it for national security reasons and all options are on the table. if only greenland belonged to a country we had a military alliance with, then none of these threats or posturing would be necessary!

Some sane voices do exist on their side:

Wow, so $1B of reduced expenses for Denmark to subsidize Greenland = $1,000 cash to every family in Denmark?

I'm pretty good at math, so $700B to buy it = $700K to every family in Denmark. We should be dropping leaflets over Denmark explaining that.

Just take it. What is Europe going to do about it? I'm all for bringing back "might is right". They can't afford any type of elite military with their socialism that they have to pay for. The US could wipe any of their militaries combined off of the map.

Perhaps this is a bit corny, but uh, beating someone up and taking their **** because you're bigger and stronger than them is maybe not a value I wanted embedded in our national ethos?

I'm not saying to beat them up. The people in Greenland have already shown interest in this. Europe will do nothing because they are a bunch of pansies. Why not take Greenland? It would be very beneficial for us.

Hey clown. What would Europe do? Do you really think they could stand up to us? Only liberals, like you, would take their side.

We could take it so that isn't the question. As Malcolm from Jurassic Park said, you were so preoccupied with whether or not you could, you didn't stop to think if you should. You are telling Europe to piss off, which sounds fine and dandy until they start aligning trade and military partnerships with China.

Europe hasn't cared one bit about Greenland, outside of Denmark, until Trump started talking about buying it. Now they are acting like American liberals in that they are trying to "resist". What I said was the truth in that no European military could stand up to the US. I get what you are saying about worrying about Europe aligning trade with China. Europe has not acted like a real ally in a while though. Their governments, outside of countries like Poland, are a bunch of communists.

You actually think the Europeans are allies? How naive. Their pissant countries rely on us taking care of the military side of things. Only liberals, like you, think that they have any teeth.

America needs to stop worrying about what the feckless Europeans think and do what is in the best interest of this country. They've been using our military might, our money, and taken advantage of our good graces for 80 years now.

If a majority of the people of Greenland are open to a deal, then we should deal. I expect we could generate an offer that would make them all independently wealthy, expand their economy, and keep them exponentially more safe at the same time. And if they became a U.S. territory, they would remain self governing and relatively independent. We would get the benefit of a strengthened strategic military position, and better access to rare earth minerals.

It would be a classic win-win. And the unhinged left would hate it because of Trump.

I could see the benefit to Greenlanders of having it as a US territory with self-governance.

Would be very beneficial to Denmark if they received up ftont payment and perpetual partnerships/royalties on mineral extraction. That's what they should probably be aiming for.

Of course. Dumbass American liberals would lose their minds, though, and call it colonialism.

Trump considers tariffs for countries that are hostile to Greenland deal.
Quote:

President Trump on Friday said he may impose tariffs on countries that do not support the U.S. taking control of Greenland, a semi-autonomous Danish territory.

During a White House event about rural healthcare, Trump recounted how he had threatened European allies with tariffs on pharmaceuticals, accordding to the Associated Press.

"I may do that for Greenland too," Trump said. "I may put a tariff on countries if they don't go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security. So I may do that."

Good.

"They stole our future."

Quote:

Even in adulthood, medical decisions were made without Petersen's consent. Plagued with problems after the IUD, she had repeated surgeries for unexplained pain. It wasn't until years later that doctors informed her that her fallopian tubes had been removed in one of the operations in the early 2000s.
Her family also suffered under Denmark's so-called "Little Danes experiment," in which Greenlandic children were forcibly sent to Denmark for adoption or institutional care often permanently separated from their families, she said.
The program, which ran from the 1950s through the 1970s, was part of Denmark's broader effort toassimilate Greenlandic children, often without parental consent.
It happened to her mother's brother, Petersen said. Other relatives were subjected to medical experimentation, she added.
"They wanted us smaller," she said. "Easier to manage."

Quote:

"People say 'Greenland is for Greenlanders,'" Petersen said. "But that's not reality. Denmark speaks for us. Denmark decides. They don't let us speak."
That imbalance was visible recently in Washington, where the Danish foreign minister dominated nearly the entire press conference following talks with US officials on purchasing the island, while the Greenlandic foreign minister was largely sidelined.
Foreign Minister Lars Rasmussen of Denmark insisted the roughly 56,000 Greenlanders wouldn't be bought off by payments from the US or vote in a referendum to become American.

Quote:

"It was colonial," Petersen said of Rasmussen's assertions. "You could see it in his body language. He didn't want her to speak.
"If Denmark really believed Greenland belongs to Greenlanders," Petersen said, "they would let us decide our own future."
That lack of control extends into everyday economic life.

Militarily probably nothing in the moment, but this would likely kill NATO. I'd expect Americans abroad would be expelled from every NATO country as would the U.S. military from every foreign base.

Forget tariffs, countries would blacklist u.s. business and but an embargo on any U.S. made good. Individually no single country could do this on their own. But we would be serving ourselves up as a common enemy most of Europe if not the world could unite against. It would signal that the U.S. does not respect the sovereignty of any nation, including our allies which would mean we could no longer be trusted in any way, shape, or form.

Trump is the best president in the last 100 years.

That says so much of how pathetic every POTUS before him was.

I will say that if he goes through with helping VZ and Iran become democratic countries that are ruled by the people, he will definitely be infinitely better than anyone would have thought, because that takes much more than an EO. Throw in getting Greenland WITHOUT military intervention, and that's about as hitting a political trifecta as one can get.

And I hope he does that, it would not only make the world a better place, but it would definitely put him at the top of the greatest since FDR for sure.
