Since the Arctic Ocean is now becoming navigable, the strategic importance of Greenland cannot be overstated.

It is BY FAR the quickest route from China to Europe. It is most of Russia's coastline.

And there's two ways in and out - right by Alaska and right by - Greenland.

There is zero debate as to Greenland's strategic value, both economically and militarily. IMO, the reason Trump immediately pivoted to Greenland after the Venezuela action was to sent a clear message to China - that the Western Hemisphere is America's backyard, and you're not welcome in it.

This is worth a read because he makes a lot of points I haven't seen in other post on this matter:

From Winston Marshall:

The Greenland issue has exposed two fundamental misconceptions widely held by Europeans elites

1. That the rules based world order ever existed.

No. It was only ever a mirage, American might and money kept Europe afloat

2. It is America causing the "turbulence" and threatening world stability.

No. America is in a Thucydides Trap. The threat to the world is China. U.S. are acting in response.

This stuff isn't difficult to understand. People just have to remove their emotions and think about the situation with their brains. Instead, some people hyperventilate when they hear the name "Trump." Some people think that the Europe of today is the Europe of 1950.

We are essentially in geopolitics alone. If we don't look out for our own interests, no one else will. We have financially supported Europe for 80 years. It makes no sense for us whatsoever. We have to either force Europe to act to protect itself or we have to act in our own interests. Those are our choices.

If only there was a treaty signed with Denmark and The United States in 1951 that allows the US to do exactly this.

For those that insisted yesterday the market sell off yesterday was strictly because of the Japanese debt issues, please explain why the market reversed sharply after this announcement by Trump?

PS. I agree the situation in Japan added to the sell off but I believe the threat of new tariffs was the bigger driver just like it was after Liberation day.

Glad he himself finally said publically that he is ruling out force (he hadn't ruled out force previously)

Now that this is settled can we stop the economic blackmail . We need to accept that Greenland is unwilling to hand the title of their land to us. Sure we can expand our base per the treaty and they have never turned down an expansion of the base. But they have made it clear that they are not interested in selling control of the whole island to the US.

Not at all, the US can swing a big stick if it wants to, the Danes and EU don't really have that luxury. All I'm saying is while allies, I don't think the trust is what it was and it shouldn't be with all the crap pulled since 2016.

So just because it's old and times may have changed, that makes a difference? We can, and will enforce this treaty if we want to. And no one is stopping us. Which is why this whole "we need Greenland" thing is so stupid.

Yes. The democrat party is full blown marxist today and can't even tell you what a woman is. Do you think that has an impact on what they will and won't do versus 1950? If people believe anything goes that supports their ideology, are they trustworthy?

Europe is increasingly controlled by muslims and marxists, both of whom have no problem with lying to advance their cause.
