Vatican City aside, Greenland has a population of under 57,000. Thousand, not million.

Think it wouldn't be that difficult to bribe each citizen like a 100k to vote for US statehood. That's not even 5 bil and its worth probably a lot more than that.

Greenland and Denmark have reportedly requested a special meeting with Secretary of State Marco Rubio. At least that's what Greenland's foreign minister, Vivian Motzfeldt, posted on social media on Tuesday.

Get in line as Rubio has a lot on his current dance card.

Quote:

The Government of Greenland and the Danish Government have contacted the U.S. Department of State with a request for an early ministerial meeting between the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the Greenlandic Minister for Foreign Affairs and Research Vivian Motzfeldt, and the Danish Minister of Foreign Affairs Lars Lkke Rasmussen.
The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the United States' striking statements regarding Greenland.
Up to now, it has not been possible for the U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to meet with the Government of Greenland, even though the Government of Greenland and the Danish Government have repeatedly, throughout 2025, requested a meeting at the foreign-minister level.

Told you he was busy.

Offer Greenlanders $400K each and a permanent resident card if they want it if they vote for independence and sign a defense cooperation treaty with the US within 24 months.

Dare the poor euro's (who the natives resent) to match or beat. Trump could even toss in an offer to let them claim proper American English as their official language if they expel Canadians also.

Offer Greenland statehood and O&G jobs. It would be a bookend to Alaska.

So we are mad that Trump has not yet done something but is talking about something that would absolute be in the best interest of the United States of America? And the moderated concern is that he will not use the right "decorum" with the Danes in discussing our intentions regarding a strategic block of ice that we have regularly used over the past 100 years anyways, regardless of permission from the Danes.

So I guess you are saying we should be ok with Trump taking over Canada and Mexico because frankly those are way more important to our national interest as they share a border with us and they are rich in a number of critical minerals and oil.

I would love to have all the Canadian land, but there's no need to add 20 million or so left leaning voters to the US.

Sure. To take Greenland we just need a gyrocopter and a retired lunch lady to land in Nuuk with a couple of cap guns and a flag that says "Ours!"

I'll plan the op before supper.

Good one.

Oh, you know they're going to twist themselves in knots if Greenland actually wants to be sold to the U.S. and it's a win-win for everyone involved.

They are obviously both important and have rich resources, but they are well established countries with higher populations and relatively sophisticated infrastructure.

Greenland has 57k people on an almost completely unpopulated land mass. That's fewer people than my hometown in East Texas.

It's low hanging fruit, the path of least resistance, a no-brainer...whatever descriptor you want to use to get access to unparalleled resources and a strategic advantage.

It's an almost frictionless move as far as geopolitics are concerned and we would frankly be stupid not to pursue buying Greenland.

If they say no, then so be it.

That's cool. They also haven't seen the offer yet.

Everyone is for sale in an arrangement that is not going to harm them and will objectively help them (if they can think strategically); it just remains to be seen for how much.

Make the offer and let's how they react.

Exactly.

Seeing as how we'll basically be using their own resources in the future, we can easily offer them generational wealth and it wouldn't even register a blip on what we'll get in the process.

Right now we are saying we are leaving military options on the table which then makes negotiations far from a free exchange. It is like someone coming up to you with a gun saying they want to buy your Rolex for $5, if you don't sell it to me, I will shoot you.

Again, I am all for buying it if the country wants to sell but it can't be under the threat of hostile takeover unless we want to be known as a country with no morals or ethics.

I see this the same as purchasing Alaska 150 or so years ago. And the same as the Louisiana Purchase. The Danes (and I'm of Danish descent) are trying to hold onto a relic of their basically non-existent colonial past.

Greenland is strategic for us, and the west, in minerals and defense. We can shoot down anything shot at us from Russia before it even leaves the atmosphere, from what I understand. That threat is real.

To protect the sovereignty of these United States, POTUS is determining whether occupation. control, ownership, etc of Greenland is necessary.

If it is, then we will obtain it. Period. And we should support that.

Geopolitics is not a game and its not for the weak. There is zero benefit to the world by the Danes continuing to ignore this landmass. There is negative benefit for Greenland to become some (in)dependent nation that has to be protected and propped up by someone - opening it to all sorts of bad interests like China, Russia, etc.

What does make sense is America taking it over.
