Impressive, by perhaps the smartest guy in Trump's orbit.
Quote:

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent just TORCHED Denmark on the world stage and told the truth they have been hiding for decades.

Denmark has a disgusting history with Greenland. Forced sterilizations went on into the 80s and 90s. Decades of neglect. Decades of abuse. Decades of treating Greenlanders like second class people.

And suddenly now that the United States shows interest, Denmark pretends to care?

Give me a break.

Europe does not care about Greenland. Europe cannot defend Greenland. Europe never could.

Only America has the strength. Only America has the capability. Only America has the will.

This is why they are panicking. This is why the mask is off.

Nailed it.

I bet that if there was a need for added US security, Greenland would let us increase our military capacity there without threatening to take it over like a bully. In fact, Greenland has stated so.

Correct…Denmark and Greenland have both stated (and we have a treaty which allows us) to increase our security.

Instead we're acting like a bully.

We are acting strategically. We don't need to subvert our sovereignty to foreign powers as doing so means you are no longer… sovereign.

It's actually the Danes and the EU being the bullies. They possess zero strategic interest in Greenland. It's part of our area the world and it makes sense we put it under our control permanently.
There's no strategic reason to burn bridges with the EU when Denmark would allow us to bolster defenses in Greenland if we truly needed it. And Trump hasn't exactly made a compelling case for why we need it in the first place.

All that said, it's categorically insane that we're having to debate the merits of needlessly antagonizing Europe as if that's a course of action that merits consideration to begin with. Sign of the times, I guess.

So we need to ask Denmark… Denmark!… for permission?

And you don't think Europe antagonizes us at times?

Not sure how one can be so misinformed as to not understand the strategic importance of Greenland, from commerce to naval security to aerial and stellar security.

Certainly better we let the Danes, the quasi commies they are, saddle up closer with Russia and China with our fingers crossed they give us permission to do something when needed down the road.

The below will get you started on why Greenland is important.

If we don't grab it now the next dem vegetable, I mean, president will just say "don't" and that'll be the green light for our adversaries to have a field day and take Greenland or at minimum China to control the trade routes.

Don't worry. Greenland is just the warmup/distraction. I figured we'd have taken Mexico before Canada but this should keep things interesting for the next 3 years, to say the least.

You know it's incredible that you don't see Trumps corruption. I mean just two days ago he was talking about how Venezuela was giving him 30-50MM bbls of crude oil that he would keep the funds from in an offshore account managed by HIM alone.

I also think it's impressive the sane washing that is being done on here. When the real truth is that Trump is clearly delusional, demented, and a narcissist. Unfortunately, this will have serious long term consequences for Americans and the world will get worse around us. And we'll have people celebrating the accelerating collapse of the global order. All to celebrate America's orangest narcissist.

Offshore account managed by him alone? You have a source? Reddit, BlueSky, Politico, NYT and anything based on "according to unnamed sources familiar with the situation" do NOT count as sources.

Okay, read the rest of your post and assume it's poor sarcasm or even poorer trolling.

Complete nonsense, burning bridges? The US is why many of them even exist. The EU and Denmark should be worried about burning bridges with the US, this isn't the early 1900s. US taxpayer money allows many of those countries to be a country anyway. EU and that area of the world **** on the US taxpayer all the time. Trump has stated clearly its for national defense and needed rare earth, which the EU neither has the money, technology or will to make use of any of it. They should be saying thank you for all the US taxpayer does for them but don't because they have Americans like you to carry their water.

It must be nice for the EU that they have a bunch of mouth breathers here in the US that take their side over our own countries interests. All of this stuff started when Trump started demanding fair trade deals with our supposed allies like Canada and the European countries. The TDS riddled mouth breathers couldn't believe that Trump would dare try to get us more fair trade deals than the garbage deals that were in place before.

How is it in our interest to annex Greenland? We have a military base there where we already have free rein to do just about whatever we want (why literally tried to dig nuclear missile silos under ice sheets during the Cold War and hid a lot of the details from Denmark) and Denmark knows where their bread is buttered so they follow our lead on just about everything related to national security. This is pointless. We already have the benefits while Denmark does all the administrative work. What are we getting that we don't already have?

Also, I have a very low opinion of the European Union, but antagonizing them for the lulz is stupid. A meh ally is better than no ally.

There is already nothing stopping American companies from pursuing the mining and other business opportunities there. Along with the military flexibility that we already have. Not sure really what more we would get from buying Greenland.

I found 3. Truman in 1946 offered $100 million in gold bars. Andrew Johnson in 1867 and Taft in 1910. Eisenhower thought about it in 1955, but never made an offer. Could not find anyone that used threats or bullying to take it over.

Exactly. Big difference between making an offer to buy versus threatening to take by force.

Keep in mind I said "discussed in" and not public proclamation. Point is Greenland has long been considered strategic and any POTUS with a pulse is going to discuss the role Greenland plays in national security.

Some POTUS's focused more heavily on doing something about it. But for those who act like this is some crazy idea by Trump is simply ignoring history and facts.
