Alternate universe: Show me specifically which page in Princess Kaguya says that the princess isn't a blonde-haired blue-eyed woman with a Mississippi accent. Oh, you can't? You mean many centuries ago when describing the legendary Japanese princess the author didn't take the time to explain that the Japanese princess looks Japanese and not like someone from an ethnic group they had no contact with? I guess you just hate white people and don't think they deserve to be in any movie!

Only when you reverse this **** do these people maybe begin to understand how disingenuous their arguments are.

I didn't make the claim. Apache explicitly said that the book disproves that black people couldn't have lived in Ithica / couldn't have been displaced by gods or monsters. I simply asked him to prove said claim and he ultimately refused.

That's 4.5 pages of bickering by 5PM.

We'll be at page 60 by 9PM.

Except that wasn't at all my argument. Yet again, for the thousandth time, you're putting words in my mouth. APACHE is the one who made the claim that the book proves that black people weren't displaced by the actions of gods or monsters. I simply asked him to show me where in the book it said that.

It's quite impressive how committed he is to the bit. Reaching Redstone levels of trolling where we can't tell if they are serious or pulling our leg.

Now I can't wait to see how Nolan implements the phasers in the movie.

I just read his posts with Jan Brady voice in my head and it makes it more entertaining. Also, when he mentions "for the thousandth time", I'm taking the over

Or... not for the many people who don't want this board to be nothing but endless, incessant, anti-woke *****ing and moaning in thread after thread after thread. Normal complaining is a whole other thing that no one really cares about, myself included.

It's not that, it's just got a dash of that. Take a step back, the discussions on this forum is largely entertainment oriented and free from politics or cultural/societal issues...go click on any thread. But you know what would be really effective? If you and a few others here didn't feel the need to passionately white knight or gate keep any time you see something you don't like.

Someone having minor problems with certain ethnicities being cast for certain roles, because they think it is unrealistic for the time period or place, is not the end of the world. You will be ok, I promise. It's ok to just say you disagree and move on...or to just ignore. But when a handful of people on here fight fervently against it, it really does pour fuel on the fire that you claim to not want on your dorrstep. Especially when you constantly call people "crazy" or "unhinged" or whatever.

Dude read the book. It was set in the world as the Greeks knew it at the time... it was Greece & the surrounding cultures being manipulated by their Gods and plagued by various monsters like Cyclops, Scylla, etc.

It wasn't the amalgamation of far flung cultures and peoples we have today. They knew of Ethiopia and black people the way Romans knew about Chinese and vice versa.

I intend to fully the enjoy the movie (or not) on its own merit. I'm just saying I disagree with that choice Nolan made as inconsistent with the time and setting.

I'm sorry, but simply posting the cover of the book doesn't do **** for your argument. Show me the exact excerpts that explicitly disprove what I'm saying Nolan *could* technically argue.

Even then, though, it's HIS adaptation and he can do or say whatever the hell wants with it.

This movie seems to lean so heavily toward pleasing people who've never read Homer or don't care that it really would have been better to just name the movie Christopher Nolan's Ancient Myth Movie.

Or, The Odd-yssey

They were so insanely rare, if they did exist there at the time, that Homer would have definitely, without a doubt, mentioned if she was black, or Asian, or Arabic, or anything else but white. I don't think people realize how segregated the world was at that time, and how homogeneous nations and regions were. We are talking like 750 years before Christ.

The fact there is no mention of different skin color is all the confirmation you need. Cliff.Booth's post at the top of this page is the most accurate analogy I have seen imo.

Maybe Homer's editor removed the racial descriptions from the book to save on the cost of papyrus and ink in the ancient world. Soot and glue didn't exactly grow on trees in Athens, ya know.

Dude, she's Helen of TROY, not Helen of Ethiopia. That's very clear from the book.

I think it's on TCTTS to prove that Helen is not ethnically the same as others in her family/kingdom given that it would be a pretty striking difference which would have stood out in those times.

This thread is highly entertaining. I don't care what side you are on. I just want people to tell me whether it's worth it to watch in 4D, IMAX, or home theater.

How's this for an opinion, prime Ellen Page would've been a far better Helen than Lupita. Talk about whiffing the casting.

So has anyone seen this? That Elliott Page is officially playing Sinon. The warrior that lied to the Trojans and manipulated them to get them to take the horse inside. He was condemned to the 8th circle of hell in Dantes inferno. Makes sense since she is lying about other things.

Ellen Page lost her marbles and transitioned into a "dude." Easy to miss if you don't follow Hollyweird closely.

Holy hell, the ratio and meltdown of TCTTS on this thread is entertaining. I particularly loved "I have been doing this for years on Texags" post. Did Looch pay you for your service? Are you actually involved in any productions that anyone would know about? Do you get any compensation for patronizing posts, or pimping **** movies like Snow White.

Uh, I think the argument would be that Ellen Page didn't have "marbles".

But none of that is required to act.
