You realize that every single example you provided was based on a non-fiction story.

And that The Odyssey is a completely fictional tale.

Like you realize that, right?

Right?

Completely fictional??????? What

Yeah, I don't understand why everyone doesn't realize this is yet another Marvel multi-verse true story. Matt Damon is in it which is the obvious clue to that.

Yeah, I think that pretty much nails it. I remain excited for it. I don't know if I'll see it in the theatre. I'll see it eventually. I don't know much about Nolan, nor care, but he's obviously a smart guy and playing both sides of the coin, because a realist knows that if the movie is really that good most will still see it regardless of the obnoxious pandering.

I went ahead and bought as well, but for 2nd weekend. The girls will be out of town, so this seems like a fun movie night with my son.

You know, I think we all learned something today. Maybe we all have had our own personal Odyssey reading through this thread. Regardless of where it took you, remember, if you come home, and there's a small city's worth of men trying to bang your wife for several years, you should slaughter them all.

Oh man, can you imagine if Penelope has a caffeine addiction at some point and Telemachus has to help her realize the error of her ways? That would be amazing.

I kinda agree with him on the Nolan films though. I am not a Nolan fanboy and have liked some of his films but was completely bored with others. I haven't seen all of the films he directed because nothing compelled me to go to a theater or to stream them on TV. Does this list make me a psycho? I also hated The Matrix and people give me **** for that.

Saw it and liked it:
Memento - I owned a DVD copy and watched it 10-15 times
Batman Begins - Liked it alot and my fav of all Batman movies
Dunkirk- great movie will watch over and over
Inception - Saw it once at theater and liked it

Saw it and disliked it:
Interstellar - Borefest
Oppenheimer- Hated it, this movie blows

Saw it and forgot about it:
Dark Knight - Meh

Didn't See and have no interest:

Insomnia
Tenet
The Prestige

It's legitimately his best film to me.

Everything since Interstellar has ranged from "meh" to "wish I waited for it on streaming" for me.

I will give it a shot. I guess I think I was turned off when I saw the characters were magicians. Magicians and ventriloquist dummies just don't get me excited at all.

In other news, I was not aware that Insomnia was a Nolan film. I've seen that but don't recall too much about it. I believe that was Robin William's final film, yes?

Nope. Saw it at a theater and thought the last 45 minutes was absurd and boring.

I saw a clip of Elliot Page in a suit signing autographs and posing for pictures with fans and it was actually pretty sad. She has no clue how to project being a man but you can tell she is 'all in' on desperately trying. She looks so unnatural out there.

She kind of sticks her arms out further from her body while walking trying to appear more "manly", but she has the quick and twitchy movements of a small boy...or like a female trying to pretend to be a man but who has no clue how to do so. Almost looked like Charlie Chaplin or something, it was pretty awkward. I hope she finds out how to be a man someday...seems like a pretty tall task...GL with that.

All that to say, I hope her portrayal of a man in this film...a hardened Greek warrior at that...is more realistic than her real life one. Casting a black woman to play an Ancient Greek character is actually LESS ridiculous than this casting decision imo. I can see Nolan going with a creepy/scary vibe for her character, as opposed to an aggressive/masculine one, and pulling off though, bc he's a cinematic genius. They will definitely have to alter her voice and use some type of CGI though to pull it off.

No, it was like a decade before he died. One of the Night at the Museum movies did come out after he died though.

According to IMDB, Absolutely Anything was the final Robin Williams movie. He was the voice of Dennis the Dog

Eliot Page has a good shot to resurrect his career if they ever reboot Lord of the Rings. Excellent Hobbit potential.

Isn't the Odyssey role something of a sniveling soldier that sells out the Trojans similar to the hunchback in 300? I never read the Odyssey so don't know how that character is described but may not be a mighty warrior.

Maybe so, that would make more sense...but I have always assumed that all greek warriors, which is how Sinon is described, were pretty tough/hardened/masculine. And that they would not let a little boyish figure orchestrate something like the whole Trojan Horse operation.

She wouldn't even be convincing playing a young adult male in a cheesey romcom. But again, CN is a certified once-in-a-generation-or-two type of film genius. If anyone can make it work...

It always felt wild to me that The Prestige and The Illusionist came out at almost the same time. No movies centered on magic for years and then 2 with big time actors at nearly the same time. For the record, I enjoyed both.

Fairly common in the industry. I don't know much about the backroom baseball of it all, but doesn't it have to do with scripts circulating among the studios. One gets the rights to the script most want so another gets a script with a similar subject, then they release them around the same time?

There are many examples of this.

This seems a little premature:

Quote:

"Christopher Nolan has cancelled all screenings of The Odyssey with movie influencers," one X user wrote. "He is only allowing approved critics to see it in advance. He is waving the surrender flag. They know they have a financial disaster on their hands."

And apparently they don't proofread their copy.

Quote:

Also causing controversy, is his decision to cast transgender actor Elliot Page as Sinus, a great warrior who fought alongside Odysseus during the Trojan War, as well as rapper Travis Scott as an unknown male character in the epic tale.

It's clickbait. Some intern reporter is assigned to gather material from X to post an AI generated article for engagement farming. There is nothing new in the article except for an X post made yesterday but the link will be shared thousands of times and everyone will click on it either out of glee or anger. Modern day reporting sucks
