Hoped we would get more but not surprising. Honestly, I'd rather just swap for Lorenzo Pellegrini who is rumored to be up for sale. He would be an excellent option to rotate with ESR or play side by side in a 4-3-3.

Smart move but supposedly Marseille is the primary suitor and has already agreed terms with Duezy. Only way I see this getting us more value is if we are trying to swap for Kamara (which I would approve of) or steer him to another club. Marseille is not likely to have the cash to give too much.

Arsenal are supposedly looking at Tyler Adams. Seen some suggestions that we like him as a replacement for Bellerin. Think that would be a mistake. I think his future is an American version of Kante if he is allowed to focus/develop in that role.


Still a bunch of rumors about Juventus trying to work a swap deal for Bellerin with Ramsey the supposed offering. For me he is too old, injury prone and expensive. How about swap him for McKennie? Then Arsenal could have the MF base of the future (Adams & McKennie) on the roster this summer.

Completely agreed with you. From a USMNT perspective, we really need Adams healthy and established in a holding role. He can play RB or that weird hybrid RB/DM role that Berhalter uses sometimes, but I think our established success is dependent on him being in a traditional DM role (either alone or two holders) and freeing up McKennie and others in front of him.

I really don't want to see my club putting him at RB - even if successful - and stunting his development as a DM that my national team needs. My head/heart and development/results continuum can't handle that.

Onana's suspension reduced to 9 months. He can train in September and play in November. I have no idea how this impacts the Arsenal algorithm of whether or not to sign him.

Supposedly we had a deal between 2-9m depending on the results of the appeal. He technically won his appeal but will still be a out a good chunk of the season, so my guess is that we settle on a 5-7m deal. Given our fixtures this season (very few mid week due to no EL/CL) we can technically get away with 1 GK barring injury. I would...

- Buy Onana with the expectation that he doesn't play until after AFCON. If he gets a few matches in Nov/Dec it's a bonus.
- Keep Leno (unless he pushes for an exit) as the #1 and look to sell him next summer (with Onana taking over).
- Promote Okankwo from the academy/U23s to be the #2. Give him cup matches and the odd "easy" league match. The following season he can either stay on as #2 or you can loan him somewhere that he will get 30+ starts.

I think Arteta got the most out of Xhaka. It seemed to me that we simplified what he had to do and he did it fairly well. Sure he had some boneheaded moments and some were just bad luck but he was fairly steady eddy for us this past season. It's understanding that he's frustrating but he seemed to be the consummate professional this past season.
If you say you hate the state of politics in this nation and you don't get involved in it, you obviously don't hate the state of politics in this nation.

Really don't understand what we are doing.
Targeting a CB makes absolutely no sense unless we are moving Mari.
Targeting a CB for 40-50m when we are in need of a starting RB & CM significantly more makes no sense.
As it stands right now, Xhaka is moving, Dani is gone, Duezi is being moved & Torriera doesn't want to be here. Unless we plan to keep AMN & Willock and utilize them in the back 2 (don't think either is really a fit there) we will start next season with just Partey & El Neny (whom we do not plan to extend) who will both be gone for nearly 2 months for AFCON.

Meh, we already now that our transfers suck. Usually if we're selling somebody, its because they're not good. Otherwise we wouldn't be selling them. The other side is that we buy players in their prime and by the time they leave, they've gotten old. We typically haven't bought really young "first team" players to develop and sell on. That's what we have our academy for.

Kid really looked good in the little we've seen in the youth system. He missed a decent amount of time with injury so maybe he really is the next Wilshere.

Apparently that first Lokonga bid was rejected.

Sounds like we are only 5m off on what Anderlecht want. They need to get that one done asap. Would also consider offering Anderlecht a couple youngsters on loan to sweeten the deal. Belgian league has been producing a bunch of young studs recently. Send them a couple of ours that are ready to break out.

Agreed. I'd look at getting that one over the line.

We probably need to get the Onana deal done ASAP if we want him as well. Other teams are going to lineup to get him. I think our issue is how to handle the GK situation. Onana is going to want to be the #1 and you probably need to sell Leno if you're bringing him in. But then you need a stop gap keeper for the first few months of the year. Runarsson isn't the answer. Can you convince Mat Ryan to come in and be the backup going forward after November. Lots of moving pieces on that end.

There are a couple ways you can go and it all depends on whether you have any actual buyers for Leno.

Option #1 - Keep Leno and promote Okonkwa (think we need to get him to sign an extension asap). Guarantee Okonkwa cup matches and if he looks good start giving him league matches against the lesser opponents.

Option #2 - Sell Leno and....
  • 2a - bring in a vet (Ryan?) that is preferably HG. You want someone that can provide leadership and that won't have an issue yielding to Onana after AFCON. Can still promote Okonkwa for cup matches.
  • 2b - bring in a young HG. I'd go with Freddie Woodman. He's been linked to us for over a year, coming off a really good season at Swansea (most clean sheets in all of English football for 20/21), no place for him at Newcastle and they badly want Willock. Offer Newcastle Willock for Woodman + 10-15m and give him a chance to prove himself. Bring in a cheap vet as insurance.

Option #1 is the safe, status quo option
2a is a bit of a crap shoot but atleast with an experienced vet
2b you are basically subbing Woodman for Okonkwa and giving the younger GK a more legit shot

Few more rumors...

  • Supposedly we have made contact with James Maddison as an alternative to Odegaard. 2 weeks ago Leicester told City that it would take 51m GBP to land him.
  • Seeing reports that Benfica is now in the mix for Duezy.
  • Several reports claiming that our 15m offer for Lokonga may have been rejected not because of the total but rather the structure. May be able to get a deal done for 15m if we offer more up front.
  • Saw something yesterday claiming that Tyler Adams has a release clause in his contract that Arsenal wasn't opposed to paying if Leipzig isn't willing to negotiate. No word on the number, though, which makes the rumor a little sketchy. Also saw some tweets where people dug through Adams's old tweets showing that he appeared to have a good bit of love for Arsenal back in 2015.
  • We are supposedly interested in 3 Brazilians from Gremio... 23 yo scoring W Ferreira, 20 yo ST/W Ricardinho & 19 yo RB Vanderson.
