Gotta perform when needed the most, and today is an absolute disaster. Am afraid this will shake the group and they - players and coaches - won't be able to overcome. Too young and too inexperienced, and certainly lacking depth.
Am hopeful this club can rebound on the weekend, but with so much to play for and the strain which comes along with it, I think this will be just enough of a jolt to throw the club off and will be an opportunity lost for CL next season.

C'mon, give them a little more credit. Do you remember where we started in August? We have a good team. Don't go jumping off the cliff because we played poorly in one match without our starting right and left backs off of an international break.AggieRob93 said:

I agree. They've more than earned that. Thankfully we still have a match in hand over our rivals. We were bound for a slip up. They are gonna have to dig deep and get some major results, especially on the road. At the end of the day, this team is going to have to get something from the spurs match and probably need to get something from Chelsea away as well as beating United. We also have to play several teams that are fighting relegation which is never easy.
Also, Patrick Vieira can get ****ed. As great as he was, he was a dbag even when he played for Arsenal.
So if we lose Tierney for the season and possibly Partey as well, we'll have to stick with Tavares at LB unless Tomiyasu magically recovers from his damn calf issue. If Tomi recovers, you can move Cedric over to cover LB. Midfield probably has to be Xhaka and Sambi. Part of me wants to say **** it and go with ESR in the midfield with Odegaard and then play Martinelli, Laca, Saka. Problem is Xhaka isn't mobile enough to cover on his own.
Could also switch to a back 3. Run out White, Holding, Gabriel. Push Tavares and Cedric up a little higher as WBs.
Idk, the injuries are definitely more worrying than the performance last night. Everything was off yesterday from finishing to Odegaard and Partey not being able to complete simple passes. Right the ship on Saturday (Thanks again EPL for ridiculous scheduling choices always giving us short weeks) and get back on track. Youngsters have to step up and for the love of God can Laca buy an open play goal.

One of the first games that we ran a 4-3-3 was with Sambi, ESR & MO. May get run over by better teams but could worth a try in the next couple of games.
Tierney is having knee surgery. He's out for the season.

New idea that people will really hate. Saka can play LB and you can start ESR and Martinelli on the wings.

Yeah I've already nixed that idea. I think unfortunately what will see is zero system change and they'll try and get Tavares to play out of this funk.
Maybe Xhaka or Cedric on the left, Holdino/Gabriel in the middle, and move White to the right like he plays for England?

True, but we weren't really considered to be thin at RB/LB. We have established starters and backups. What nobody expected was Tomiyasu to return for literally one game, reinjure the calf and then go missing for nearly 4 months, then lose Tierney to a knee injury from international duty for the rest of the year and couple it with Tavares suddenly regressing from a decent first half of the year to not being able to play soccer at a professional level.
Even if we didn't sign anyone, we could have just held on to Chambers and AMN until the summer rather than simply give them away. A versatile player capable of playing both midfield and RB would be pretty nice right about now.

True and I wish we'd kept Chambers. I think Ainsley was completely out of our hands. I think the moment Roma contacted him, he forced that move through. He wanted to leave last year and was convinced to stay only not to play. I think he basically has told the club he's done here.
Partey confirmed to be out several weeks and I'd bet he misses most of the rest of the year. Hopefully Sambi can step up.

Its gonna suck if we don't manage to make the CL, but if you'd have told me we'd be where we are at the beginning of the year and that Auba/Laca would both fail to score 5 goals, I'd have said you were insane. Still hope, but its gonna be a long shot.

Will see what Arteta is thinking but I would be VERY tempted to shift back to a 3 man back line possibly for the rest of the season. Would allow us to still play Nuno with less worry about his turnovers and/or defensive deficiencies and keep Xhaka next to Sambi to help keep him focused and grounded. Then you can choose between a 3-4-1-2 and 3-4-3 dependent on available personnel. We would be lite at CB until Tomi is healthy. At WB you have Nuno, Cedric & Saka which should be fine to finish the season. At CM you have Xhaka, Sambi & El Neny with MO and maybe ESR able to fill in there if needed. At AM (3-4-1-2) you have MO & ESR. At W (3-4-3) you have Martinelli, Saka, ESR & Pepe. And at ST you have Laca (3-4-3) and Martinelli & Pepe when you play 2 ST.
