Sooo... when Watford go down, how would everyone feel about making a run at Dennis for a W/ST super sub? Assuming no wings are sold, that would give us Saka, ESR, Martinelli, Pepe & Dennis who can play W with Martinelli & Dennis capable of rotating in with whomever we sign at ST and ESR capable of rotating in at the AM/CM spots in the 4-3-3.

I don't watch Watford, but he certainly didn't look very impressive yesterday. Missed a sitter. Maybe it was an off day but I wouldn't rate him based on yesterday. Also, only 5'9".

On paper, Smith-Rowe makes more sense at #8, but there's a number of issues that come without Xhaka. Arsenal lack experience and leadership on and off the ball without him. Also read an article this morning (don't recall source right now) stating that we will be targeting 2 ST and a CM this summer at a minimum. If we qualify for EL/CL we may add RB, W & LCB to the shopping list.
Arteta said it looks like both Tomiyasu and ESR could be available this weekend though I highly doubt either will start. Would be huge to get Tomi back with 3 matches next week.

I like the idea of one target man and one speedy false 9 type but I don't see any way in hell we get both DCL and a higher profile guy like Felix, David, etc... A) the combo would cost too much money and B) both would be coming expecting to be the starter.Quote:

My guess is we go with a higher profile false 9 (Felix, David, Isak) that can do many of the things that Laca is currently doing but contribute a bit more in goals. Then go cheaper with the backup but as of right now I'm not convinced that Arteta will go a different style of ST with the backup.
Felix & David would be the most immediate fit based on who we are linked but I think Isak could be a good option too. Others I have run across that have me very intrigued are Amine Gouiri (W turned ST) and Oihan Sancet (6'2" AM turned false 9). If Chelsea get into really bad shape maybe make a run at Armando Broja.

Based on the way we are currently utilizing Xhaka, my dream scenario would be one of Mikel Merino, Aureline Tchouameni or Jude Bellingham. The guys we are currently linked to are Renato Sanches, Fabian Ruiz & Youri Tielemans. I've recently seen a link to Lucas Paqueta that I find very interesting but I'd worry that his defensive abilities aren't near good enough for the role.
We are linked to 2-3 young English RBs. Chances are we go for one of them. Personally I would like to see us add Tyler Adams for DM/RB depth. We can have he and White backup Tomi with Saliba & Holding available to backup White if/when he slides over.Quote:

I probably should have stipulated that my thoughts are based on making UCL. I think with 2 major competitions a week, plus the FA Cup and Carabao, we could use both DCL and Felix based on the fit required from our opponent. Very different type of Strikers. Think Arteta really values versatility.

One interesting scenario I have seen us linked with would be the purchase of Robert Lewandowski and then snagging a young guy to back him up and learn from him for a couple years. Lewa is much older than what we have been bringing in but his contract expires in 2023 and Bayern is reluctant to extend him so it is claimed that he is looking to move this summer. At 34 and 12 months left on his deal, he would in theory be cheap (or cheaper than Felix, Isak, David, etc...). And even at 34 he is wrapping up his 7th straight season of 40+ appearances and 30+ goals and he has a game that should lend itself to longevity. We could snag him with the expectation that he would give us 20+ goals at a minimum and then snag a guy like Oihan Sancet, Benjamin Sesko, Broja, etc... that could spend the next 2 yrs as his understudy. In theory that would be 2 quality ST for less than one of the bigger name young guys we are linked to.
