Saw the scoreline, looks like it was actually a brace. Seems he was deployed as CF in a 4-3-3. Not sure how much competition Valencia truly was, but maybe he just needed a reset. I will be keeping an eye on Barca the remainder of this season to see how much PEA may or may not impact their finish.

Nope. Worst part is that when you watch in slow mo (like VAR does), you can clearly see him look at Saka and square up on his leg. It was the same think with the face stomp on Tomi. When you watch in slow mo you can see Godfrey look down at him and and quickly turn his head so he can act like it was an accident.

- We are linked to Rafeal Leao from Milan. He is a ST that was converted to LW last season and is having a breakout season. Current contract ends in 2024 and Milan is trying to renew. Last I heard, it looked like he might sign a new contract.
- Seeing some links to summer move for 25yo Napoli CM Fabian Ruiz. His contract expires in 2023 and he has said that he does not plan to renew. There is speculation that he could be had this summer for 20m euro. Not sure he offers much more defensively then Xhaka but offensively he would be a definite upgrade. Supposedly Newcastle made a move for him in Jan.
- Saw a clip from the Brentford post game presser where Mikel was asked about ESR. He commented that he was capable of playing LW, LAM, RAM & #9 very well. What are the chances we see he and Martinelli there this season to verify they would be capable in the role? And if they do well, that means we only buy 1 ST in the summer?
- A Spanish journo named Eduardo Inda claims that Arsenal have inquired about Joao Felix. Prior to the Jan window, Atletico was rumored to have given Felix and his agent permission to pursue other opportunities. Given how much they paid for him 3 years ago (113m euro), I'm curious what they would want. Per TransferMarket his value is currently around 60m euro. While he hasn't faired well at Atletico, I think he would be a very good fit for our current offense.

I'm not sure Atletico will play nice with us. His release clause is something like 200m and they're still mad about Partey. Personally, I've never liked Felix. Always struck me has someone with a lot of young hype in a smaller league and he's been bang average for Atletico. 23 goals in 100 appearances isn't great and while you can argue that its Atletico and they're not super creative, a mid 30s Suarez has 30+ goals in 70 appearances.
Not gonna say you are wrong about Felix but it is worth noting that Felix & Suarez are completely different players. Suarez is a pure #9 while Felix is a false 9 / SS / scoring LW. Based on what I have read and seen, I don't think Felix was ever gonna be a good option for Simeone. Just doesn't fit how he likes to scheme.
While poking around FBRef at Felix's numbers I noticed a comparable ST that may be worth looking into... 21yo Bilboa ST Oihan Sancet. TransferMarket lists him as an AM but WhoScored shows that all of his starts this season have been at ST. His goal production isn't amazing but his overall numbers (passing, pressures, etc...) are very comparable to Laca but with a little more goal production. Watching his video...

Think he is capable but it is not his natural tendency to sit back and cover for the DL which I think will lead to more inconsistency. He also isn't clean enough on the ball so leaving him as a lone DM would mean unexpected turnovers and dangerous counters for the defense. Against lesser teams I think it would work fine. If you look at the average player positioning from the last several games we are actually playing a 4-3-3 against lesser teams despite lining up as a 4-2-3-1. However, we are doing it with 2 defensive (or semi defensive) CMs most of the time so you still technically have a double pivot to cover in defense. If you go to a 4-3-3 with ESR & MO as your LCM/RCM, while they are capable of getting back and helping out, their first instinct will not be defense so it is incredibly important to have a strong single pivot DM to slow down the attack and allow players to recover and help.
