3 points! Not pretty but mission accomplished. Great result to stay above spurs and move within 3 points of Chelsea.

That's top 6 clinched. Europe next season, and not the third rate tournament either.

Now let's go qualify for the big one

No matter where their careers go from here (and I think we all have a good idea where), I will always laugh at the memory of Eddie Nketiah getting in Declan Rice's head that badly

Wasting 30 seconds of stoppage time when you're losing…way to go Declan you dumbass

If only we had a striker who could finish. It is a true miracle that we are in the top 6.

Lol not just Declan either. He had their entire squad going nuts. I'd love to know what he said

Arteta said they aren't worried about Tomiyasu or Saka in terms of injury. Hope thats a good sign

I find the Spuds board kind of hypocritical. They complained we scored a goal after a handball (the pundits seem to feel the Ref and VAR got it right) but have no issue with Son not being called for a handball that kept them from having a PK.

They're always like that. Son and Kane get away with a lot.

If Kane received the same judgement from refs as Xhaka did, he'd lead the league in red cards

Poor missed call on the hand ball in the box, but spuds are trash. Both can be true

According to Arseblog, no team has lost its first three games and ended up top six. Sort of a dubious honor but when you look at those first three games and their roster, that is impressive.

Keeping him would make the summer easier but if we do, I have a feeling that he will be looking for a move again next summer when we give our new ST the vast majority of the minutes.

Given the history of players coming out of Monaco, I really hope this is a legit link and I hope we are able to pull the trigger.

I like what he's done for us lately but he's not the answer for our ST problems. In my opinion, he's cup/midweek game option but not really someone that is going to push us towards winning the CL or EPL.

Certainly not yet, but can't help wondering what he could be in a couple more years

I agree but we know what Eddie brings to the table and he is still young. If we re-sign him we don't have to get 2 ST this summer which allows us to focus cash on other areas. In all likelihood he would end up being sold next summer but atleast then we would have more years on the contract and could get some actual cash from moving him.

If our summer was...

Re-sign Eddie
Sign Jesus
Sign de Jong, Tchouameni or similar CM
Sign Hickey
Fill gaps with "Martinelli/Douzi" type signings

Would you look at that and feel we had a successful window?

Don't want to jinx us, but on a scale of 1-10 what's your confidence level that we land ahead of Spurs as 4 on the table when all is said and done?

I'm going to go with a 7. I think there's a pretty decent chance Liverpool smacks them around, and that we win or draw against them.

Highly likely that spuds lose to Pool.
Highly likely they win against Norwich.
Reasonable likelihood they beat Burnley but not a guarantee.

So not counting our game they are looking at 68 total pts max

Our non-spuds comps left are Leeds, Newcastle & Everton. We have a habit of screwing up games we should win but in theory we should win all 3.

If we win all 3 then spuds result doesn't matter as we would be 5 pts clear without that game
If we win 2, then win or draw against spuds and we are #4
If we win 1, then we either have to beat spuds or draw them and atleast one of the others.

Bottom line. If we lose to spuds we make things much more difficult on ourselves. If we tie or beat them we have several options that get us to 4th, all of which are very doable.

If we are feeling more and more confident in either Balogun or Martinelli as a 9 I would be ok with that scenario (I have no idea if we do though) because Eddie isn't bad and will definitely get better, and there would be a role for him in some cup games as you said. Then I would probably look to sell Nketiah the following year after theoretically his value increases, and upgrade with a second striker then. De Jong and Jesus would be a significant upgrade for sure.

I could see Martinelli continue getting training/looks as a future #9 but I'm not sure if he or Balogun really play into this decision. Balogun in particular will likely be on loan next season. At this point the regular playing time is more important to his development.

Only reason I see to keep Eddie around is A) keep us from having to buy 2 ST this summer and B) raise his value so we can get an actual fee when he leaves sometime in the next few windows. Long term I don't see him being good enough to be a CL team starter and I don't see him sticking around to be a permanent backup when there are places where he could be the #1. I could however see him convinced to stick around for one more year for the opportunity to play in CL and the promise for more playing time at Arsenal.

I think Eddie has looked good in this run of games. His hold up play has been better and I like that he's willing to carry the ball forward. I agree that he's not the solution up front, but I'm not opposed to keeping him. Balogun is definitely still a couple years away.

I do think if we convince him to stay, we'll just end up in another AMN situation with over-promising playing time. We still need to bring in a top forward.
chjoak

Not sure it would end up an AMN situation seeing as how he got next to no playing time but i could see the potential for over promising. However if Eddie is kept as the #2 he would probably be looking at 20 starts and 30+ total app assuming there are no injuries. There are too many games between league, domestic cups and EL/CL for one guy to get them all
