Meh preseason match. Not really upset although it definitely showed we still need help in creating chances.

Positives: Nelson and Eddie looked lively and active. AMN looked decent in the middle. Pepe, Laca and ESR looked decent. Partey almost scored a helluva free kick. I liked the maturity on the ball from Francis and Hutchinson. Didn't panic.

Negatives: Even this team shouldn't be losing to Hibs and as much as I'd like to chalk up the goal in the 1st half to an irregularity, its exactly the type of goal that has become normal for us. Okonkwu just looked really nervous/scared. Runarsson and Okonkwu are our backups if Leno goes down and that is terrifying.

Auba looked like 2020/21 Auba rather than 2018-20 Auba. I'm much happier with Laca playing up top. If he doesn't care anymore, you have to find a way to move him on. Its Ozil all over again

How do you think it would go if Aggie Football lost a preseason scrimmage to UNT? Our standards shouldn't be low enough to shrug this off.

Agreed. The weird part is that off the field he seems to care. Been training a good bit on his own in the offseason but shows up to first scrimmage and there were shades of Ozil.

TAMU Football preseason counts. EPL preseason is for practice and marketing. Definitely some cause for concern but nothing to freak out about yet.

Yep, Auba needs to find the joy in playing soccer again. Hope the enthusiasm of Saka, Pepe and ESR rub off on him.

Hence why I called it a "scrimmage". Even it didn't count, it would be a cause for alarm. This is, too. No reason we shouldn't have won that match by 2-3 goals.

I've watched us lose to all sorts of garbage 1st division teams over the last 25 years in preseason. They've had 4 days of training and I won't be shocked if half the players that played today aren't here when the season starts or on the youth side won't play a minute of 1st team action today.

It would depend on how the coaches approached the scrimmage.

True. We also hit 2 posts, missed a PK, missed a tap in break away, had a few slightly misplaced passes that would have put a player through on goal and had a forward (Balogun) taken down before he could tap it in at the back post with no call.

Hibs 2nd goal looked offsides and had we equalized on a fraction of the above we score 3-4.

I don't think you can read much into early pre-season performances for a star like Auba. That said, I get why, coming off of his horrid 2020-2021 that today might seem like a really bad sign.


I didn't count how many times we had a pass roll out of bounds or roll right to a defender because our players weren't on the same page. But it seemed like it happened a lot.

They just didn't seem to ever quite understand what their teammates were doing. Hopefully that'll sort itself out as the pre-season moves along.

It happened alot. Part of that is preseason and part of that was playing a number of guys that were on loan, in the academy or not getting much 1st team minutes last season.

I think Charles Watts put it best this morning, we can't really be shocked by yesterday considering its literally the exact same players we've had over the last few seasons. We talked a big talk about investing and bringing in new players and yet here we are in mid July with only a back up LB signed. Obviously it seems Lokonga will be signed by the end of the week, but I don't think he's coming in immediately to be a starter either.

Hopefully with the Euros finally finished things will speed up. Rumors that Xhaka to Roma should be wrapping up this week, but who the hell knows

I read yesterday that this was stalling because Roma couldn't meet our demanded price. I'm sure it will get done but may draw out longer.

Also seems like we are over valuing our unwanted youngsters in this market. Seeing very little interest in AMN, Eddie & Willock.

And as I say that RE: Xhaka, I am seeing reports from Italy that he is cutting his holiday short to finalize a deal in the next 48 hours. Supposedly Roma are now able to offer more since they offloaded 2 assets.

Could be, could be. At this point, I'd take him given my thought that Real isn't in a strong negotiating position on the fee. And we've got to do something--which perhaps doesn't help our position.


On a tangential note, I hope Barcelona's fall continues in a painful way. They need to really feel it.

I think so. I believe all the programming currently on NBCSN is gonna be moved mostly to the USA channel or behind the paywall

Yep they are moving it at the end of 2021.

I'm not prone to buying kits (mostly because I am cheap), but I would really like to snag a little Arsenal gear (t-shirt, jersey, hoody) as well maybe a couple other teams from other leagues. Where do you typically get your stuff? I'd specifically like to get last year's home. Probably won't get a name/number but who knows.
