**** sports center. Every time the Astros highlights would get one or two spots (side ticker of screen) above the current highlight it would just disappear and be replaced with some bull****.

Why would anyone expect a last place 6 win team to get on sports center ever? I guess it's the same people that think the TAMU football team deserves Gameday at Kyle after a decade of pure suck.

I figured playing Ryan Bruan woul get us something

Today we leave bases loaded again in the first and only get one run.

Now 2-24 with bases loaded.

To make it worse Happ gives up a 2-run bomb to Braun in the bottom half.

Why the **** do we keep pitching fastballs down the middle to this team? Thats the only thing they can hit.

Chris johnson might be the worst player I've ever seen with Risp. Needs to be sent down.

4 hits for Altuve and 3 for J.D.

Like it!

Picking up Altuve for my fantasy team is the only smart thing I've done all season.

Agree. I would rather see Brett Wallace. CJ is awful

CJ is just very streaky,

Seems like one day he's on an 8 gamne hitting streak and the next he's in an 0-28 slump.

Chris Johnson just doesn't fit this lineup anymore either. He swings at everything and doesn't work a count. This lineup is full of dude's who make a pitcher work on every AB. I'm sure most pitchers are relieved to see CJ stroll up there.

3rd base has been such a hole in this organization for a long time. This organization has not developed a 3rd baseman since Morgan Ensberg.

Agree with all the comments. I think Brett Wallace has a much higher cieling than CJ. If nothing else, he will see more pitches than CJ. Plus Wallace is nearly 2 full years younger. I think this is Johnson last shot with the astros and the organization is just making sure. Once wallace is comfortable at 3rd he will come back up unless CJ has gone on a tear. I look for a move in June sometime.

wow, i did not realize we had moved brett wallace to 3rd base

Singleton is the future so Brett had to be moved if he wants to play

Yeah he was moved to 3B this season and he is in AAA right now. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Brett play 3B in college or early on in his Minor League career? Obviously there will be an adjustment process, but I think he has some familiarity with the position, so maybe it won't be a long transition.
Mr.Bond

He played 3B @ ASU

Is Wallace hitting well at AAA?

Brett is not blowing it up at AAA, he's painfully average there right now.

.267, 2 HRs, 3 2Bs, 4 BBs to 14 Ks
OPS is .740

Hopefully he can have some type of epiphany or get on a good streak to nip at CJ's heels, but I'm worried that the Oswalt trade is going to look like a pure heap of crap when/if he doesn't pan out.

Jose Altuve btw is second only to Ian Kinsler in WAR on fangraphs. Guy is such a stud.

And Wallace missed a few games because of injury earlier this year, so he may still be trying to work his way back into game shape and getting his timing back, etc.

Wow I didn't realize how well Singleton is doing down in Corpus. Batting .375, On base at .459 and OPS at 1.131! That's promising right there

I wouldn't mind seeing Singleton as a September call up this year.

George Springer is hitting around .250 and has shown some pop, but he has 4 walks to 23 Ks in 79 at bats. That needs to improve.

Telvin Nash is another free swinger, but he has 9 homers so far. He has some serious pop if he can improve his plate discipline some.

Nicholas Tropeano has 32 Ks and 6 walks in 21 innings with a 1.29 ERA at Lexington so far.

Sadly the Astros minor league teams are full of high strikeout hitters. Guys getting rung up at those clips in the lower minors never make a name for themselves on the big club.

As far as positional players in the organization, Singleton is the only real true prospect with any star potential.
mazag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
You don't have to have star potential to be a long term player for a team and help them compete.

Guys like Villar, Jonathon Meyer, DeShields, Nash, Springer (who has just as much potential to be a "star") can all have very productive MLB careers if development stays on path.
TREX01

Tim Purpura must post here as mazag. Some of those guys MAY make it to the show. Villar and Nash probably have a ceiling in AAA.

I just think you over value the guys in the system. Not just this year but going back over the last 3-5 years.

I could see the light go on for Springer, but with his K numbers in A ball at his age it doesn't bode well for future success. As for Meyer and Deshields, I would tend to think Meyer has a greater shot at the show.
mazag08

There is a difference between saying all of these guys will make it and saying that you are retarded to write them off yet.

You are saying these guys wont make it.

Im calling you retarded for writing them off. You were probably the same guy saying Martinex, Altuve, and Schafer would likely not do much at the MLB level.

I would rather give them a chance and be slightly optimistic than give up. Have fun being a quitter.

I think the emergence of several legitimate pitching prospects is the most encouraging thing I see so far. Foltynewicz, Cosart, Lyles, Clemens, and Tropeano are all pitching well.

One of the concerns with Springer was that his long swing would lead to a lot of swinging and missing. Appears to be a very real problem. The low walk numbers seem to indicate a patience problem. Maybe he can improve it still.

There is a reason our minor league system is considered one of the worst in baseball. Even the experts know we don't have talent in the minors.

Quit being so sensitive when someone doesn't see things the way you do. Its no way to go through life.
mazag08
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Not being sensitive. Tired of negativity when it is completely baseless and pure speculation. There is no reason to give up on any of our top 15 prospects yet. NONE.

We are no longer considered one of the worst in baseball. We are in the 20-25 range which shows absolute and clear improvement.

I tend to look at things from the positive angle, and judging by the last couple years, I dont know how you cant think positively at this point. We are on our way to having a Tampa Bay/ Texas type of minor league system in the next 3-4 years.

When 2-4 of the guys in our current system are in the bigs in 2-3 years, dont feel bad when I say I told you so. Likewise, feel free to call me out if they all crash and burn.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The Astros have 2 prospects in the Top 100 of Baseball America. That is terrible. Singleton and Cosart are most likely to make an impact.

So if those two make it, should I come on here and tell you I'm sorry for being so negative and not agreeing with you?

Truth is, there isn't much on the farm to get excited about, yet it is more than it was 3 years ago. The Astros are probably 3-5 years away from contending for a playoff spot. Moving to the American league will probably slow that progression.

Hopefully they can move Myers and Wandy and load up the mid levels of the system. That alone could jump the overall outlook.
Frok

Our farm system is still really weak however we at least have new leadership in place that may make better draft picks. Ed Wade had no idea what OBP is. #1 pick on Delino DeShields? Please.
