Just saw that the Astros have a winning record at home. They are probably the worst road team I have ever seen.

34-63 on July 23

24-22 at home; 10-41 on the road...

I've been dreaming of 2016 for a while..

1B: Singleton
2B: Deshields Jr
3B: Ruiz
SS: Correa, Fontana
RF: Santana
CF: Springer, Wates
LF: Ovando, Kvasnicka
C : Castro, Perez
DH: Nash

Note: They are on pace to have the worst road record ever. 16-65.

Previous record is 17-64.

I hope half these guys see Houston. I know most of them are our top prospects but after our top 3-5 prospects there isn't much talent there.

Singleton
Springer
Fontana
Correa

I don't expect to see the others in an Astros uni. Deshields I could be talked into, but need to see him jump a level next year and refine his discipline a bit more. We don't need another K factory at the top of the lineup. Also, I'd like to see him move to CF and let Springer man a corner spot.

That gives us room for Fontana and Correa and Altuve in the infield. That's assuming that Correa moves to 3B and that Ruiz isn't a better fit there.

I guess the idea of us having a DH still hasn't stuck with me. Just can't believe Drayton let Bud pants him on the way out the door.

Seriously dude?

Santana has one of the highest ceilings in our system.. and at just 19 years old is tearing up high A ball. He could take 4 more years and still be a great PROSPECT.

Wates is an outfield tweener but plays good defense, can hit for average, and can nab a few bases. No reason he can't be as productive or better than Bogusevic. And fortunately for him, he is a step ahead in the system of Santana and some of these others due to age and experience.

I'll give you Nash, Ruiz, Kvasnicka, and Ovando. One has incredible potential, one has no experience, one can barely hit .220 in Lexington (though is showing some power) while the other has way too many things to work on. Those are perfect case scenario guys for me.

But to say that Deshields, Santana, Wates, and Perez wont make it is incredibly ignorant. All of them have very little barricades in front of them and will have the benefit of a club wanting to see what they do to assess their value.

In feel good prospect news, Correa hit his first HR today and also collected three other hits with a walk. Luhnow's twitter says it was estimated at 420 ft.

I understand there aren't many road blocks in front of those guys. My point is that they are all still in A ball. Do you realize what kind of good fortune it would be for the Astros to have all those guys pan out and make it in the bigs?

They have to perform for at least a couple of years in the minors and at this point, they really haven't. It is almost a rule of thumb that a list of top 10 prospects below AA ball will only hit about 30% success rate. I've followed minor league ball long enough to know how these things turn out.

Ya, and of our top 25 I picked the guys most likely to.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
You picked 13 position players from your top 25 if the other 12 are pitchers are they all gonna make it too?

You are way too absolute when projecting players.

I think Delino is going to be a player. His hitting has improved a ton already. 62 walks so he has a good eye to go with a .302 average. 21 doubles, 4 triples, and 8 HRs, so he has pop too. And an absurd 71 stolen bases in 95 games. Yeah he has to get his strikeout numbers down, but he's showing a lot of promise. He turns 20 next month.

Dude..

I already admitted half of them are long shots..

but Santana, Wates, Deshields, and Perez will get a shot barring a major setback. Get over it.

This isn't the Astros of old. Rebuilding teams are constantly bringing guys up and will see a lot more players make it up than established teams. Your 30% rate might be right for established clubs but we are likely to see closer to 40% or maybe even 50% of our prospects make it up whether they stay or not. And to say 4 of our more likely players wont make it is extremely ignorant.
TREX01
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Extremely ignorant. This is the kind of talk that makes your arguments look bad. I'm not going around insulting you calling you and idiot or ignorant, I'm just stating a different point to keep discussion going. These threads would all be one page long if everyone agreed with the OP. Its a message board, you need to figure that out.

I didn't insult you. I just said you made an ignorant statement. And you did. Disagree all you want, but dont speak as if you know something is factual when the things you posted are off base.

I used terms like I dont expect or I hope and you used terms like they will. Which seems like a more absolute statement

Looks like Wandy is gone now too? Luhnow has certainly blown it up quickly, let's hope some of these prospects become house hold names in a few years

From Crawfish Boxes

quote:
UPDATE: Robbie Grossman and Alen Hanson are heading to Houston, it appears. Grossman is a 22-year old center fielder in Double-A who is hitting .262/.374/.403 in 347 at-bats this season. He's hit seven home runs and been successful on 9 of 19 stolen base attempts this season. Wonder if he's ready to take over for Jordan Schafer right now.

Hanson is a 19-year old second baseman in Low A South Atlantic League hitting .319/.383/.552 in 386 at-bats this season. Looks like DDJ has some company at the position, though Hanson appears to be a much better prospect right now, hitting for power and stealing a ton of bases in his first trip through the Sally League.

And pretty sure we got a pitcher too

Bad information on that one..

Colton cain, Grossman, and Rudy Owens. Owens goes on our 40 man and they are reporting Armando Galarraga from AAA has been pulled and will be heading to Houston.

Sixteen year old first baseman Connor MacDonald has signed with MLB franchise Houston Astros.

The four time Queensland representative has been on the scout’s radar for some time; and cemented his talent at the Major League Baseball Australia Academy (MLBAAP) on the Gold Coast this month in front of the Australian and USA Houston Scouts.

Connor’s dad Ken is a former baseball player for Brisbane in the old Australian Baseball League, and the strong pedigree has been beneficial to the South Brisbane teen’s development.

“Connor is a young, developing baseball player who has a lot of projectable tools and especially a very strong bat. His father Ken played in the old ABL with the Brisbane Bandits and was a decent sized player and we believe Connor will grow to at least that size” explained Greg Morriss, Australian International Scout for the Houston Astros.

He has come up through the Australian Baseball development pathway; playing club ball for his local Redlands Baseball Club since the age of seven, attending the Queensland Baseball Academy for three years and this is his second year at the MLBAAP.

The six-foot four first baseman is understandably very happy with his signing.

“This is really just the start. My ultimate goal will be to play in the Big Leagues and represent my country, but for now even getting signed is awesome” said Connor.

Finishing school is very important to Connor who is currently in Grade 11 and according to his father is also academically inclined; “the Astros have been very good with this, to them, Connor finishing Grade 12 was always a given” said Ken.

Connor’s baseball development will be taken to the next level when he starts Spring Training for the Astros in Florida in the next two years.

This is a significant signing for the MLB Club; Connor is the first Australian to sign with the Astros in over twenty years. It marks the first step for Houston in the current Australian player talent pool, and is a program which they are committed to continuing in the years ahead.

Watch out Singleton and Wallace 5 years from now. You will be relegated to the bench!
