It's a long history of regime change in Latin America. Focus seems to be on China more than Russia, but everything else is pretty consistent with 200 years of foreign policy.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever read.

You may not remember the conflict between drug enforcement and CIA in the 1980's. Think: Iran-Contra for starters. The cartels just had to promise not to be commies, and all was good. This time around, if we really want to have a war on drugs, we can't have a wink-wink agreement with the producers.

Ideally, the Colombians would police their own. I don't even know if that's possible. They might just kill a big segment of their economy, get a bunch more leaders assassinated, and drive the business into Peru or Mexico. At least we tried to send a message. Everybody who shares a border with Colombia has a drug problem. But Venezuela was down the list a ways. Not my fault if you think I'm dumb. That's on you.

Any idiot with a brain cell knows that no country is going to actually go to war with us, at least not directly. So, why not act as the world's police and clean up all the crap that has needed to be cleaned for decades upon decades.

I know Trump wouldn't do this with Russia or China, but there are plenty of countries in Africa like Sudan, South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, etc. that would benefit greatly from us taking action just like he did with Maduro.

Maybe this is the first step of many interventions the world needs.

Think Panama more than iraq

Panama was very different than this. Our sphere of influence in Panama was huge (we basically founded the country, and had troops stationed there for a long, long time).
I'm not expecting the military to just lay down and allow the opposition party to take control. They have money and aren't accountable to anyone but themselves at the moment. And if they don't, we're going to have to do much more to get them out of power. Any idea that we're done and Venezuela will take care of itself is wishcasting.

I dont think trump is interested it doing more other than perhaps more air strikes. We're not sending into the marines.

It appears military forces are abandoning their post for the moment and the people are out rejoicing int he streets.


We will see where this goes, but id expect only covert power supplemented by air power when needed

I'm trying to figure something out. How is support or non-support of this type of action a democrat or republican position? I think republicans support it, and Dems oppose it, because Trump did it. If it was a democrat president doing it, the support/opposition would be flipped.

With the exception of social issues, everything else, is uniparty.

I'm relatively ambivalent about this action.
They paid for their wars with your tax dollars and also with your untaxed dollars. Inflation is theft.
