So, the terrorists that he deep sixed were non state combatants. We do have legal frameworks for handling those.

I think it's obvious that bombing a country and flying off with its leader is akin to a declaration of war. HOWEVER, in this case almost everybody agreed that Maduro was an illegitimate ruler who starved and oppressed people who were begging for another leader. Plus, it's hard to claim that we started a war with Venezuela when the entire country is now celebrating our actions and lauding us as saviors. But, it's certainly pushing the boundaries of executive power outward, especially when Trump says we're going to help run the place temporarily. Specifically, Here's where it could really go sideways: If we deploy troops to provide security and Maduro's lieutenants device they want to fight to try to hold onto power, it's going to be hard to argue that this isn't a war or at least a large military action.

But for now, what the hell. This is good for Venezuela and good for us, so I'm going to cross my fingers and hope the worst case scenarios don't happen.

China has already said they were going to invade Taiwan and by 2027 to be exact. So I see this as somewhat logical fallacy since you simply take them at face value and don't let what they've already said dictate what you should and shouldn't do to protect your own country in your own backyard.

Also, the entire western world has a strategic interest in Taiwan and we've already said we would defend them and so has Japan.

Hell, the UK Defense Minister told China they would nuke China if they did it.

Pretty open sourced during Biden administration. Around 2022 I think. PRC was pretty open about their 2035 plan to retake Taiwan. Then that become a 2030 and after our pullout of Afghanistan debacle it became a "we will be ready to take Taiwan by 2027." PLA set its military modernization goals at 2027 to coincide with the PLA centenary. They are also dropping new carriers in the water and setting up depots as well as making strong footholds in space. This all coincides with their goal and timeline to reunify. And all of this is on the google machine and has come straight from Xi and their foreign secretary.

China believes Taiwan is theirs and it is theirs by right under the "One China" policy and they are setting things up and are pushing to be able to retake it by 2027. There are plenty of statements from Xi and multiple members of his cabinet including Li Shangfu and Qin Gang. There are numerous articles and papers on the subject as well and the US NDU as well as multiple US Congressional reports and strategy papers on the subject that are open source. Based on your posting history, you're playing the contrarian just to be contrarian.

This was absolutely an act of war. And it was a GOOD thing. The only reason people are fighting this obvious claim is Trump idiotically ran on the "no new wars" promise. That was a dumb promise for him to make. It's like promising "no new natural disasters".

And even if Maduro was duly elected, it wouldn't matter. He could have 100% of the vote, but by actively working to kill millions of Americans, he deserved to die. If he had more support among his people, then it's likely that more Venezuelan's would have had to die for us to achieve the goal of protecting America. The fact that almost nobody supported him made our job easier and saved many Venzuelan lives.

That being said, I'm against his trial. He should be a smoking hole in the ground. There is now a chance that he gets acquitted. We should have made sure that would have never been a possibility.

Someone else posted that he has charges against him in Argentina so we could dump him there if he somehow got acquitted. Or just turn him back to the Venezuelan people and let them handle it Mussolini style.

The only chance he gets acquitted is if DOJ puts Lindsay Halligan in charge of the prosecution. That's not going to happen. Fortunately, DOJ in SDNY has attorneys in charge that know what the hell they're doing.
