"Neocon" term gets tossed around like Nazi does these days. Eyerolling.

This will more than likely go down in history as a limited action at worst. Not a sustained conflict. Is there a difference to those who died tonight? No. Is there a geopolitical difference, especially when gauged against an expanding timeline? Absolutely.

People are going to use their per-existing biases and prejudices to decide where they fall on this. Simple as.

It does fall in line with the "American is the world police" idea, which I'm perfectly fine with, so long as we don't waste untold lives by doing endless waring with a country.

What Trump just did was what I wish we would've done in Iraq instead of the invasion that gave us over two decades worth of conflict and untold lives and money.

This took few resources and got no one in the MIC rich in the process. Well, I'm sure we'll come to find out there will be plenty of American and other companies that do get rich because of this, but c'est la vis.

Now of Trump will do this is Iran, North Korea, and Russia, one can only imagine how much better the world will be.

Let's say that was some kind of negotiated arrangement with Maduro, imagine what kind of intel he was able to bring to the negotiating table.

I hope that's the case.

Let's hope he does not stand trial in Washington DC. They would probably vote to acquit.

If they have a grand jury indictment it will be interesting to see where it was convened. If it was convened during the Trump Administration you can guarantee it's going to be in a friendly jurisdiction. They can pretty much charge him anywhere. Where they charge him is also where they will have to keep him in custody so that's a huge factor. Will need to be a highly secured facility.

SDNY is a possibility given their experience with high profile trials and high security defendants. El Chapo was tried in New York.

Yes, the 'TACO' and "Putin's Puppet" narrative has always been weak, I guess those 'concerned' voices will be fairly quiet this weekend. Townhall.

I wonder if Maduro might actually be forced to stand trial for Smartmatic related fraud around 2020?

We all know Trump is still pissed off about '81 million votes' but I would swag the trial will be around narcotic/human trafficking, at least initially, then perhaps offer a plea deal to him if he agrees to provide testimony/evidence of broader election frauds.

I am not sure why no one mentions it, but I feel certain this all ties back to Obama ending Project Cassandra. From AI for those with short memories:
Project Cassandra was a DEA operation that kicked off in 2008 to go after Hezbollah's massive drug money network. Turns out, Venezuela was a huge hub for itHezbollah worked hand-in-hand with corrupt officials there under Chvez and Maduro to traffic tons of cocaine from Latin America straight into the US (often via Mexico) and Europe. They used Venezuelan airports for Aeroterror flights: drugs one way, weapons and operatives the other, complete with fake IDs from the government. The cash got laundered through used-car schemes and black-market exchanges, raking in up to a billion bucks a year for Hezbollah. The big controversy? A lot of sources say the Obama admin slowed or blocked arrests and charges as the probe got close to top Hezbollah and Iranian figures, so they wouldn't derail the Iran nuclear deal. After 2017 reports blew it open, the Trump DOJ reviewed it and set up a special team, but the Venezuelan ties stayed deep

LOL, nightstalkers are not to be trifled with.

Some online are sniping about how this makes a Chinese attack on Taiwan more likely/legitimate, but I think the opposite is true. They will now lack the oil reserves to handle any kind of sanctions in a shooting war over the island republic (and the price of oil will likely drop significantly in 1H 2026), especially if the mullahs also fall, which this also makes more likely.

The screeching from tankie twitter, the BRICS contingent, and western Russophiles is near deafening right now. The false equivalencies, hypocrisy, etc. are comical. Not to mention the memory holing of the failed 2022 attempted decap operation.

Honestly, I think it's jealousy as much as anything, seeing the clear separation that still exists between the US and the runners up when we actually do decide to let our nuts hang.

Well, they didn't want the Dems to a) warn Maduro and/or b) get a district judge to issue an injunction preventing this

"Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, have been indicted in the Southern District of New York. Nicolas Maduro has been charged with Narco-Terrorism Conspiracy, Cocaine Importation Conspiracy, Possession of Machineguns and Destructive Devices, and Conspiracy to Possess Machineguns and Destructive Devices against the United States. They will soon face the full wrath of American justice on American soil in American courts. On behalf of the entire U.S. DOJ, I would like to thank President Trump for having the courage to demand accountability on behalf of the American People, and a huge thank you to our brave military who conducted the incredible and highly successful mission to capture these two alleged international narco traffickers."

This won't have any impact on China reserves or supply. Venezuela is a drop in the bucket for total imports for them and the little they got will be easily replaced.
Venezuela is in the other category and is less than 2% of total imports. Imports ramped up in late 2025 but that is China choosing to buy discounted crude available due to ongoing sanctions. Even then it was still in the very low single digit percentage of total supply.

Well...interesting tidbit for me.

Just found out all flights into and out of SXM (Sint Maarten) have been cancelled. Can't find any new flights until Tuesday (but for $3500 one way on AA).

So, now we're stuck here (I know, awwwwwww). Gotta figure out if we can extend our stay at this condo or get another one.

I'm going to guess this is related to this action in VZ...

Pretty sure those are the accurate/common figures tossed around, though I realize sometimes this stuff gets political to trouble shoot. The Chauvista's expropriation 20-ish years ago did hamper not just US companies but the Venezuelan ability to manage/grow their oil production/industry, fwiw.

Again though, not sure this has been stated in this thread but the big point remains; this isn't about the oil, it's about drugs/Iran/China (and somewhat Russia). The alliance with China-Iran-Russia was not coincidental or a 'minor' deal, but also the Chinese-Iranian drug war on America and Europe. More:
Quote:

Citrinowicz said the group uses family ties, language and community institutions to cement its influence across Latin America. "They appoint imams, fund religious centers and control educational programs… through these networks, Hezbollah can interact with local cartels, sell drugs and channel the profits back to Lebanon through elaborate schemes."

He said this role as a connector makes Hezbollah indispensable to Iran's strategyin the Western Hemisphere. "The connection starts and ends with enmity towards the West in general, specifically to the United States," he said. "As long as Maduro is there, the Iranians will be there. But if Maduro goes, Iran will lose the most important stronghold of its activity in Latin America."

Townsend stated the partnership works for both sides. "Iran's partnership with Maduro enables Hezbollah to operate in Venezuela. Iran gets to safely operate, through Hezbollah, in the West without prosecution, and Maduro and his officials get paid well. Ultimately, Iran uses and exploits Maduro. Maduro doesn't care he and his friends benefit financially."

Both experts pointed to state complicity as the key enabler. "Under Maduro and Chvez, Venezuela has become a major transshipment hub for Colombian cocaine," Townsend said. "There have been several indictments in the U.S. and Treasury OFAC designations that tie senior government officials directly to the use of state infrastructure ports, air bases, even military convoys to move massive shipments of cocaine. Cartel of the Suns, high-ranking military officers, run and protects these shipments. Who launders all of this drug money? Hezbollah."

Citrinowicz emphasized Iran's investment in Venezuelan power structures. "The enhancement is illustrated by several aspects: first and foremost, the military cooperation, especially Iranian factories building UAVs for the Venezuelan army, and constant Quds Force flights from Iran through Africa toward Venezuela," he said. "Iran is also teaching Venezuela how to bypass sanctions and has invested billions into the economy."

Trump's harsh treatment of Canada 8 to 12 months ago also revolves around this money laundering etc.

I Am so excited for the people of Venezuela, for my "brother" who left there decades ago to start again in a foreign country after his own brother was murdered by these thugs. My prayer and the prayer of so many millions of Venezuelans is that they fan finally rebuild their lives and their homes and that they can rid themselves of their socialist oppressors finally after decades. May God Bless them all.
