Arsenal are outclassed. Not really a top club anymore.

Doesn't help that we finally get a win on Monday and immediately lose 4 players to injury and then another one in the match. There is so much bad juju in the club right now that literally the only positive thing in the last 3 months was still a net negative thanks to injury.

Its gonna take selling Auba, Leno and probably Martinelli to get some funds to fix this

Ozil pissed with coming off. I didn't think he had a terrible game. Granted nobody has really been good either

As weird as it sounds, we need Giroud back to be the holdup play for Pepe and Gabby to run off of

Miserable match. Miserable season. Everton won't be easy next Saturday. Optimism is gone.

Yep. This team is so broken right now that there isn't a clear starting point to fix. Defense is garbage. Midfield is non-existent. Forwards cannot create. Youth looks like potential, but ultimately fail to impress when played. Ownership refuses to invest

We drew Olympiacos in first knockout round of the EL.

Also apparently the board was meeting with Arteta till the wee hours of the morning last night. Granted if I was him watching this team yesterday, I wouldn't want the job

1/8 odds for Arteta to Arsenal. Looks like it's happening.

Geez, good luck to him. He has a nearly impossible project ahead of him.If he turns this team into an EPL contender within 3 years he should get a statue in front of the grounds.

All signs lead to Arteta taking over. If thats true, which I'm ok with, I think it means we're accepting it is full rebuild time. If Guardiola and Wenger both think you're going to be a top manager someday, you have to trust them.

I'm in favor of the hire, but it would be a little bit funny if we hire someone else at the last second again.

Saw some things saying Arteta is done and we are simply negotiating his exit from Man City.

Also saw something saying Vieira may be actual the target which I highly doubt

I like some of the connections that Edu has to South America for bringing in some future HG talent but if the rumors of his preferences (playing Luiz & hiring Vieira) are true, I'm thinking he either needs a new role with less influence or he needs to be moved on. Raul really needs to be run out as well, especially if we are gonna go rebuild.

Some rumors that Arteta is already at the stage of discussing the Jan window with our FO. Not heard any specific names but that Arteta feels that are too many players that "just don't care enough" and the plan seems to be to offload some of those players and rebuild.

These are quotes from an interview Arteta did with the club back in 2015 about managing in the future. 1st line in the 2nd answer is what I love.

Quote:

It's little secret that many people see you as management material when you hang up your boots. Is that something you think about? My team-mates are always going "What are you going to do Miki? You're going to be a manager, you should be a manager!" I know what the job means and I know how hard it is, especially when I look at the boss and see how many hours he puts in here. You need to sacrifice your family all over again, which I've done since I was 15. But I would love to manage a squad of players and staff I've got it inside me, it's true, and I want to do it. First of all I want to make the most of my playing career, because I'm 32 and in this game you never know whether you'll end up carrying on until 34, 35 or 36. After that, I'm certainly going to stay involved in football because I think I've got something to add. I would like to prove myself, and prove my ideas about managing and encouraging people to do things in the way I believe is best.

So let's imagine that you take over Mikel Arteta FC tomorrow: what will the ideas behind it be? My philosophy will be clear. I will have everyone 120 per cent committed, that's the first thing. If not, you don't play for me. When it's time to work it's time to work, and when it's time to have fun then I'm the first one to do it, but that commitment is vital. Then I want the football to be expressive, entertaining. I cannot have a concept of football where everything is based on the opposition. We have to dictate the game, we have to be the ones taking the initiative, and we have to entertain the people coming to watch us. I'm 100 per cent convinced of those things, and I think I could do it.

Will you set your team up in a particular system, or do the players come first? I think you need to adapt. You can have an idea of a system, but you need to be able to transform it depending on the players you have how much pace you have up front, how technical your team is, what types of risk you can take and whether your players are ready to take those risks. It's important to analyse your players because you can't always play the same way. There have to be different details and changes in how you approach things, and you have to look at how you can hurt whoever you are playing against. Is there something they don't like to do? If so, we're going to make them do plenty of it. Then the most important thing for the manager is that, the Friday before the game, you imagine what's going to happen on the Saturday. And if what happens on Saturday is not what I had planned, then it's not been good enough from me.

Is there any current manager who particularly influences you? One is Arsne Wenger, of course - he has a philosophy that he's never going to change because he really believes in it. That is the most important thing, because if you don't really believe in something then you'll just change it after one bad result and drive your players crazy. Another is Pep Guardiola, who I've known since I was 15. The way he sees football is always to look ahead, then further ahead, always improving. Then there's Mauricio Pochettino - he was my captain at PSG and I always knew he would become a manager. He has taken a lot of influence from Marcelo Bielsa, who was his coach with Argentina; they used to talk about things a lot, and now you can see that his teams are really aggressive, both when attacking and defending. He takes a lot of risks, the players enjoy playing with him, his decisions are always sound and he's got a good personality. I've admired Pochettino ever since I was young; he really looked after me when I was at PSG as well.
You mentioned Guardiola's thirst for innovation, and he showed that when pushing his full-backs into midfield against Manchester United the other week He's always got a reason for things like that. I look to see managers do something different and add something to the game, not just going out there to be tight and be compact. You can win like this, but I don't know if your players will really enjoy working that way. I'd want my players to express themselves you can give them knowledge and ideas about what you want to do, but afterwards you need to leave room for their own ability and creativity. You have to learn from your players, and if you can do that then you can do something new.

I really hope this Arteta deal is done quickly. I wonder if he'll want (let's assume he does) and if Freddie would want to stay on as an Assistant? I feel like it would be a good thing, but that would be up to those 2 guys. I certainly don't want Edu, Raul, etc forcing Arteta to hire anybody he doesn't want to work with.

As either Chjoak or wangus posted above, it's really time for those above them to evaluate Raul and Edu in their roles at Arsenal.

Let's Go You Gunners!

Arteta needs to be allowed to hire whomever he wants. Think it would be cool to keep Freddie around but that is up to Arteta.

Raul needs to go. Too much Barca "team building" in him. Need someone with experience building a team from the academy and via smart buys. I wanna see us looking at guys involved with Ajax, Dortmund, Gladbach, Leipzig, etc...

May be too early with Edu but if he is indeed pushing Vieira and Luiz (playing) then he may need to be replaced as well.

In addition to Arteta, I am seeing some rumors that we are looking at revamping our youth setup. Supposedly in advanced negotiations with ManC's Sam ***bemi (In charge of City's youth recruitment strategy) and Wolves Phil Antwi (Sr Academy Scout).

I wanted Arteta last summer and am very very very excited for this appointment.

This thread is pretty exceptional from a Man City perspective:

Rumors that quite a few players are starting to want out now, including Auba, Laca and Xhaka.

Apparently Freddie made a statement to the higher ups about desire and players not working hard enough. No matter what, I've enjoyed his brutal honesty and not pulling punches

Quote:

"Ljungberg told the hierarchy that too many of the players didn't care, and that was unlikely to change until a permanent appointment was made. Both the interim manager and key officials are said to have been taken aback by just how much the players have dropped off, and how slack some attitudes were. It has fired the mood for a clear-out."

I said this a few pages back. F'm all. Sell every last one that wants out in the next 2 windows. We need to get younger and hungrier. Do player swaps where necessary to maximize the value we get up front vs taking a ton of deferred payment.
