Yikes. The home pitch advantage has virtually disappeared in the Bundesliga. Only 5 home wins in 27 matches thus far. It's only been a few weeks, but that's a crazy stat.

We had a home pitch advantage before the shut down?
Haven't had one since 05-06

PEA may be running out of options... Teams that have rumored to have significant interest... Real, Barca, Inter & PSG

Real - Links have gone cold and now Zidane has back tracked on Jovic and now claims to be willing to give him more time, meaning that he remains at RM as the #2 and there is less room/minutes/$$$ for PEA

Barca - They are focusing on Martinez (Inter) and don't seem to be interested in PEA anymore

PSG - Were considering PEA if they were unable to negotiate the purchase of Icardi. Well, they negotiated the purchase of Icardi so they are no longer in the market.

Inter - Likely his best bet with them expecting to lose Martinez. However, Inter supposedly prefers Lacazette because he is a couple years younger and it is assumed his salary demands will be much less.

Others - there were once links to Chelsea and ManU but those were short lived and haven't surfaced in a couple months.

At this point, unless he is dead set on leaving Arsenal, PEA's best bet may be to stay. His most lucrative option may be to see out his current deal and leave as a FA next summer but that is also risky due to his age. The alternative would be signing an extension and remaining our captain. With the rumors today that we are trying one more time to extend, I wonder if one or both sides are starting to see his options (or lack there of) unfold.

Not really looking forward to the June 17th restart with being away to Man City.
Yeah that's not ideal

I actually saw somewhere that our first 4 matches back are all away from the Emirates.

If it follows the Bundesliga then home field means nothing without a crowd at least

Played Charlton Athletic in a warm up match. Goals from Laca, Auba, Willock and an Nketiah hat trick

Nice. Like to see Nketiah doing well. Not sure if he will ever be a starter but I think he has the potential to atleast be an amazing sparkplug off the bench.

Found highlights on arsenal.com
Based on what I saw, I think the did full lineup changes (likely at half). Starting lineup was...

------------------- Laca -------------------
PEA ----------------------------- Nelson
-------------------- Ozil ---------------------
------- Duezy ------------- AMN --------
Tierney - Luiz - Mustafi - Bellerin
------------------- Leno ---------------------

2nd lineup....
------------------- Eddie -------------------
Gabby ----------------------------- Pepe
------------------ Willock ------------------
------- Xhaka ------------- Dani ---------
Kola -- Mari -- Holding -- Sokratis
------------------- ???? ---------------------

Very encouraging to see AMN playing in MF. Hopefully that means that he and Arteta have made up. If we could find a good young #6 (academy or otherwise), I could see 2 of AMN, Duezy, ESR & Willock running together in an effective 4-3-3 press MF.

We apparently lost to Brentford today 3-2 in another warmup match. Based on this information, we are a solid mid-table Championship side. No promotion or relegation for us

Leipzig fan checking in. I think he's gone also... but similar to the Keita to Liverpool transfer a couple years ago, I'm really not that bent out of shape here. Dude has ridiculous raw talent, but he also makes some bone-headed mistakes.

I don't want to be a wet blanket though, so I'll only elaborate if the deal goes through and y'all want my opinion. Overall I'd be happy to keep him as well, but again, similar to the Keita deal my opinion is that it's better for us to take the money than try to keep the player, but that's not because they're bad players, but rather we don't yet have the finances or prestige to justify trying hard to keep these guys... especially when we can use 20MM talent and still make champions league in the Bundesliga.

https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1296852/Arsenal-transfer-news-Dayot-Upamecano-RB-Leipzig-contract-gossip-rumours

Quote:

Upamecano's contract ends in 2021 and Leipzig are desperate not to lose him amid the imminent departure of Timo Werner.

However, the Bundesliga side may get their wish as Balague claims the Gunners do not have the funds to pull off a deal for Upamecano.

"I don't think they are going to be able to spend 40m-50m on players because of the expenditure from last year, this year and of course the COVID-19 situation," he said on his YouTube channel.

"RB Leipzig are working hard to convince him to stay and renew his contract and the club told me they are close to renewing the contract.

"He is a top, top centre-back and perhaps he feels it is not the time to move. He will have time to do but it looks optimistic that he will stay on."

Meanwhile, Arteta says Arsenal face slipping further behind their rivals if they do not spend in the summer.

"We are trying to put a plan together to improve what we have," he said.

Pretty sure that Arteta quote is taken out of context. He said that when talking about renewing Auba and Saka's contracts. Not summer signings

If we were gonna go with no Laca would have preferred a forward line of Saka - PEA - Pepe

MF is pretty damn scary too

From the excellent Athletic feature on Arteta yesterday:

Quote:

In a squad meeting on June 12, Arteta looked his players in the eyes and told them the club needed a change in attitude. That will be reflected in his team selection for the trip to Manchester. In that meeting he explained it's no longer acceptable to say that on their day, they can beat anyone. It should, Arteta insisted, be their day every day. So: are they in or are they out?
