Come on man, I'm not THAT pathetic! (I have two of them so I know how bad it is).

As previously mentioned, I too have totally changed my tune on McConaughey after his last few performances, obviously including this one. It's refreshing to see him taking these types of roles and move away from the chick-flick, cheesy crap he made his name on.

Hilarious that you know exactly what I'm talking about when referring to the "beagle beg."

I haven't been this anxious over a TV show ever. Walking Dead has given me its moments, and so did LOST back in the day, and Mad Men is a classic drama in my book, but this series has been everything. I am engrossed.

Q: Do y'all think series such as this, taking place so far in Louisiana and Texas, hold as much significance to northern audiences? Loaded question, but whatever.

I think so. National media and TV critics are eating it up. I'm sure it's more personal to some of us than others.

Beaumont rings true for me because my parents grew up there so I was really digging last week's episode on a semi-more personal level than many.

And no, that picture doesn't change my attitude towards him. Partly because I grew up in Austin and a few of my lifelong buddies are horns. Mainly because his work has superseded that relation to the horns at least 10X over.

I love Shameless and often find myself wondering how realistic the characters and situations are to real life up there. I can't imagine the setting has any real bearing on the average audience, especially with the quality of TD.

Anyone else watch Chole go to town on the blow and whatever they were freebasing and think MM is pulling from real world experience? I don't think the bongo parties always stopped at grass, which would prolly explain why he was sans clothing. Fascinating show all around.

Is it considered an all-time great? 71% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I never thought it was ranked up there with When Harry Met Sally or Roman Holiday or Breakfast at Tiffanys or High Fidelity or anything like that.

I've always been a fan of MM, found his romcom's to be entertaining and always had hot chicks. I even thought stoned naked bongo's MM was okay...I live in Austin, seen worse.
But MM=Tom Hanks, GTFOUT!!!! No way anything MM has done, recently awesome, comes close to what Hanx has done year after year after year. Check the hardware on Hanx vs MM.

No doubt. I had to go back and re-watch that scene as I didn't initially catch the fact that Ginger saw the grenade once the captured guy started opening up the trap door, so the first time through I was fully expecting it to go off and for all hell to break loose.

Back to the "Northerner's" liking the show or not. I have a friend born and raised in Ohio and he loves the setting. He came and visited a few weeks ago and all he wanted was to drink Lone Star tall boys.

Speaking of which - I have been drinking ONLY Lone Star myself since I saw episode 1. Maybe I am highly susceptible to product placement? I just loved the "nothing snooty" scene I guess.

I actually love Fools Gold and will watch it anytime it's on. That probably has more to do with my love of diving, the Caribbean and Kate than it does MM's acting though.

Rewatched the latest episode and wow! Such a great job of showing the switch of a flip on Cohle.

Just a quick question I haven't seen discussed. Has there been any indication into what order theyre interviewing Marty and Rust?

I only ask because they mention no records of his dad to Marty but not Cohle. Not sure why they woudn't bring it up to Cohle unless they're interviewing him first. Just something I've looked over so far.

In Episode 1, if I remember correctly, they show the interview date of Cohle as April 26 or 27 or something like that and the interview date of Marty as May 1 or 2.
