How long do you want to ignore this user?
My best guess as to how it shakes out. Don't keep reading if you think my best guess could be considered a "spoiler".

Ledoux, the other guy with Ledoux, and Errol are the "catch them" guys as in they find the girls and catch them for the big whigs. They also are the "dump them" guys after the big whigs are done with them. Sam Tuttle, Billy Tuttle, Sherrif Childress, Austin Farrar, and another key player are the "big whigs" that are in the video and perform the "rituals".

Austin Farrar wanted to stop being apart of the group and the other "big whigs" got rid of him.

Rust and Marty will end up killing Errol and try to get to Sherrif Childress where Marty dies. Rust turns back into crash and goes after the last of the "big whigs". EDIT: Rust kills someone in the end for drugging a child. BOOM! Full circle!

Speaking of, in case anyone missed it (by jumping straight to this page), I posted a link to the other episode scripts I have on the previous page. Will post the series treatment on Sunday.

The preacher's name is Theriot. Austin Farrar was the ethics deacon that Theriot took the naked pictures he found to, and Farrar then tried to accuse him and led to Theriot leaving the foundation. This is what Theriot told Cohle anyway.

Cohle later asked Tuttle about Farrar and Tuttle said he was fired for embezzlement and apparently at some point had an "accident" which Tuttle ascribed to alcohol abuse.

Just doesnt seem like with this kind of show (and the short season) that there will be an significant twists (like that either of the cops were in on it, or there was a connection missed all along, etc...).

Just kind of strikes me as a show that is going to have a "eh, that's it?" to it... They catch/kill the bad guys, one or both of them dies in the process (since they won't be back for any next season) and that's the end of it.

With only an hour left, tough to have any kind of big reveal and still wrap things up.

Agree with free_mhayden.

I think when Nic says most is revealed in first episode he is referencing Cohle's on the scene psych profile more than anything else.

I'm hoping that's how it goes. This was always about the story and the ride, not who the killer is.

The show is much better when watching it as a developing story and not a mystery. If you focus too much on the endgame you don't appreciate the greatness of the ride.

Pretty good write-up from Esquire before the finale...

"15 BURNING QUESTIONS FOR TRUE DETECTIVE TO ANSWER"

http://www.esquire.com/blogs/culture/true-detective-finale-questions

I don't necessarily buy into Maggie's dad being the Yellow King, but this is definitely an interesting bit...

quote:
Is Maggie's father the Yellow King?

One answer for who exposed Audrey to the rapes is Hart's father-in-law — named Jake Herbert according to IMDb — who looked pretty creepy throughout his time on camera in the second episode of the season. When he was first introduced, two things were made clear: Maggie comes from a wealthy family and Herbert is a cranky old man who thinks the world is getting worse. In other words, he's exactly the type — rich, angry, and powerful — who would be part of the Five Horsemen cult, or involved in covering up said cult. He also nails what Audrey's future holds by telling Hart, "I've seen kids today, all in black wearing makeup. Everything's sex." That could just be the standard old-man rant, but Audrey was clearly hyper-sexualized at a very young age. Was Maggie's father involved? Perhaps Audrey saw the video that Cohle and Hart watched in the most recent episode. Also, when The Daily Beast asked Michelle Monaghan if Maggie's family was going to be involved in the show, she said,"Yes, our family — everybody — is still going to be part of the plot going forward." Not only that, but Robert Chambers's The King In Yellow mentions a house by a lake, and Herbert's home is located right next to one. Oh, and one of Maggie's first lines in the show featured her lamenting, "You don't pick your parents."

Rember Maggie's line after she tells Marty she screwed Rust:

I haven't been f***ed like that since before the girls.

Given that sexual exploitation of young girls is a theme, I though that line was creepy as hell.

The storyline relating to Maggie & her older daughter & Maggie's father is not filler.

Not creepy. Just a dig at Marty that he hasn't been getting the job done at home.

Agree. There was also the line after Marty calls his daughter captain of the varsity **** team where Maggie says, locked outside the daughter's door:

It's just me. You NEED to talk to me.

Of something to that effect, but implying that she (Maggie) understands what the daughter is going through.

Havent read the whole thread but has it been discussed that Marty's daughter set up several naked dolls having sex, drew sex pictures as a kid....then has sex with two guys as a teen? Something was weird about that and wondering if it's going to tie in. She was influenced by someone you'd think.

It's been discussed multiple times. Several are of the opinion that its just to show that Marty lost control of his family because he was a crappy, inattentive father. I'm of the opinion that she was actually abused by the cult. If you go back and look through the thread, you'll see that there are several more minor things that point to the theory, as well. Her painting in the most recent episode, the explicit drawings she drew including one of a man with beard/scar/mask, her spiral drawing that's in the background in the 2nd episode, the similarities between her doll set up Cohle's tin man set up and the men in the video, and displaying all the classic signs of a victim of childhood sexual abuse.

Can't wait for tonight's finale and, at the same time, hating for this amazing show to end.

I think there are two things we can count on:
1. Either (or both) the main characters die in a shootout. Wouldn't even surprise me if one of the main characters kills the other.
2. 51% of everyone who's posted on this thread is going to be pissed off at the ending.

But since it makes the True Detective finale one hour sooner, I like it at least this year!

Prediction:

After they successfully find Carcosa/Yellow King and answer all remaining mysteries, the Black detectives show up at the end and arrest Cohle - series ends on a dark note assuming they will successfully blame Cohle for all killings and the reign of the Yellow King continues #timeisaflatcircle

Prediction: the finale will (hopefully) not wrap everything up in a neat bow, and when it doesn't, we will start hearing all the complaining from folks, and will learn exactly who didn't understand at all what the show was about.
