Yep! Wonder when they will officially announce the cast. I really like the rumors that have been posted here so far.

Justin Lin is now in talks to direct the first two episodes (and only the first two episodes) of season two. Don't know how I feel about that (he did the last three Fast & Furious movies, and is scheduled to direct the next Bourne - seems like a random choice), but I'm all-in for Rachel McAdams as the female lead. It's apparently between her and Elizabeth Moss right now. I don't mind Moss, but I'd definitely prefer McAdams. And it sounds like Collin Ferrell, Taylor Kitsch, and Vince Vaughn are all basically locked as of now...

Justin Lin also directed a few episodes of Community in the first season, including the first Paintball episode. I haven't seen any of the FatF movies past the third one, but based on his Community credits, I'm on board with him as a director for a couple of episodes.

The Justin Lin F&F movies are awesome, but they are big, loud action movies.

I liked that the first season was all one director. Felt like that really set the show apart.

I would really like to see Elizabeth Moss, I feel like their is a really breakthrough performance in there. Rachel Mcadams, has the screen presence of a sack of potatoes. She makes Jennifer Garner seem exciting.

Moss was great in Top of the Lake, based on that performance she would be a solid hire. I like McAdams but I don't know if she's right for it, but since they are going with a fast and furious kind of vibe she's a better choice than a skyline gt-r.

Professor you can't be serious about mcadams. She's fantastic.

I have to agree. McAdams is not edgy enough for something like True Detective. Really enjoy looking at her but I think Moss is a better fit here.

I've just never seen her be interesting or compelling in any movie I've seen her in. Although if season 1 is any indication perhaps she could come in and give a great performance.

Man, for as much as I loved True Detective last year I might punch out on Season 2 if it includes Elizabeth Moss. I hated Zoey Bartlett and I hate Peggy Olson.

Better Luck Tomorrow was a pretty good movie. It's too bad that Justin Lin now just does dumb action movies. I guess it pays the bills.

Someone I know just posted on Facebook that they were filming season 2 in front of her house in Austin. Is this possibly true or is she confused? I find it hard to believe when the leads haven't been conformed.

Technically, it could be possible, but I seriously doubt it. There has been no official word on casting, a director, or a start date for filming. That said, just because nothing has been stated officially, it doesn't mean filming of some kind can't already be under way. But again, it was my understanding that filming was set to begging either later this year or early next, so I wouldn't put much stock in it.

It looks like SEVEN new names have entered the race for the female lead. I'm partial to Jessica Biel, but it sounds like Rosario Dawson is now the frontrunner...

Skip season 2 and go to season 3 correct?

Season 2 was fine, it just wasn't up to the standard of Season 1 (or Season 3, for that matter).

What I appreciate about this series is that they're self-contained stories, so it won't matter if you've seen season 1 or 2 in order to enjoy 3.

I revisited the first half of season two recently and it's not nearly as bad as I remember. In fact, it was actually pretty damn good. I think massive, crippling expectations combined with the the fact the show switched formats (only one timeline) simply soured a lot of people, myself included. Don't get me wrong, the scripts still needed another pass or two, and some of the dialogue is a little hammy, but I was pleasantly surprised at how watchable it all was. It's definitely worth your time.

Random, I know, but I just have to say, I'm now in the middle of my third rewatch of season one and it is, hands down, my favorite television season of all time. Mad Men will forever be my favorite, all around, traditional show, but nothing - not even Mad Men - compares to the eight episodes that make up True Detective's first season. The characters, the atmosphere, the case, the format... it's all just so astoundingly good, and everything I could ever want from a limited series. I know this is a weird thing to say about something so dark, but season one has somehow become my comfort food, and something I want to revisit year after year. I just love it so much.

Btw, I took five minutes and read through some of this thread after I posted the above and some of the old theories are so hilarious. In particular, the Rust-is-the-killer theories around the page you just referenced.

Season one is my favorite season of tv ever, without a doubt. I'd probably put season two of Fargo in the second spot. I've watched season one of TD a few times, totally stands up, MM and WH were perfect casting. They also nail the ambiance of the area as someone who grew up between SE Texas and SW LA. My favorite line is when they 're driving and Rust says "I don't like it here, nothing grows in the right direction."
