I'd wonder if the bike isn't there to make us think that Hart ran over Cohles daughter this causing the "falling out", but then the writers stated they aren't trying to trick us. Wait, as someone stated, the writers would say they aren't trying to trick us if they were trying to trick us. Carp, I've gone cross eyed...

This.

The bike has no real significance.

Right. Maybe Hart was drunk and ran her over. Maybe choke figures it out and it gets covered up.

Eh, thought Cohle and the family lived in Texas. I know he didn't get to Lousiana until after the four-year stint in undercover, which occurred after dauggter's death.

Hasn't Hart' been in Louisiana all this time?

Marty was banging Cohle's wife and ran over his daughter when he came over drunk and pissed off because he saw her out one night at a bar with Cohle. Cohle has blocked out the memory because of all the drugs he's consumed since then. The memory will return in a rush to him when they have their fall-out.

This has all been foreshadowed by Marty eating Daddario's butthole.

And I thought the BB threads were bad about crazy predictions and overthinking. You guys just need to sit back and enjoy the ride. I think realizing something was a hint later on and seeing the pieces add up adds to the entertainment/suspense/story. You don't have to figure out everything early.

It's fun. It makes you think.

Ya but Marty always wears sunglasses outside and Cohle doesn't so what does that mean? He has a shield over his eyes to keep from seeing what Rust sees.

Also what are those dang sunglasses? I want them, they're awesome.

Those are RayBans, probably RB3445 either gunmetal or matte gunmetal. Those may be the same ones Coach Sumlin was wearing when the linebacker (Young maybe) was on his official visit and they were riding in Sumlin's truck.

So Sumlin is in episode 6? This is the best mini series ever!

Finally got around to watching ep 5 last night, and just now got up to speed on the thread from where I left it off at Sunday.

1. Good call a handful of pages back on the Mardi Gras/Cajun/horseback/pointy hat imagery. Something along the lines of throwing a chicken and chasing it all over the countryside.

2. Awesome Daddario tweet...I now follow her on twitter.

3. The way some of y'all bend things to explain rationale (like > 50% certainty from you) on Cohle or Marty being the killer is pretty damn funny.

4. I gotta get back to work. Will find and troll my way back here before Sunday.

That all being said, best show I've ever seen on TV.

Satanism is mentioned a few times by cops and locals, with the newspaper calling the scene OCCULT.

Watching this show, it's dark nature and messages about duality are clear. I decided to look into some of the numbers in the show to see if they had any evil significance... and I made an interesting find.

1. As the detectives drive on the freeway, they pass a billboard looking for a lost girl. Her birthday was 11/10/87. 1 + 1 + 1 + 0 + 8 + 7 = 18, or 6 + 6 + 6. The reward for her was $10,000 and her age was listed as 14 (this whole part is supposed to take place in 1995 so her age makes no sense). Anyways 1 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 1 + 5 = 6. The phone number to reach the sheriff's office is 337-976-5236. Notice that there is a 6 in each third of the number If you take out the three 6's (3+3,6,6) you are left with 7+9+7+5+2+3=33 or 3+3 = 6!

Is the date 10-11-87 on the Stacy Gerhart billboard her birthday? If so that billboard says she would be 14 in 2002. I thought they saw the billboard the first time in 1995.... and the second time Cohle saw it it was in 2002 when it was mostly worn away...

Is my timeline wrong somewhere?

If it was the day she went missing, I highly doubt they would say "who killed me" on the billboard. Sort of like giving up hope that she is alive if they haven't found her body.

And if she died on that date at the age of 14, how come a fresh billboard is up in 1995 (over 7 years after her death) but the billboard is terribly worn after another 7 years...

Posted this to the other thread on accident...just gonna copy it here.

Part of what makes Mad Men great is the uniqueness of it..the way they combine the characters, time period, story, pace, etc., is significant IMO.

Lost had some pretty damn good episodes...the Constant was great...my favorite (or most lasting) being the one with Desmond and Penny mainly. I cannot remember which it was!

I think the people on here with the view that Cohle and Hart stayed in touch over the years while Cohle goes off grid to do vigilante work are most likely correct. After watching episode 5 I am in the same boat. Especially after how both present day characters (2012 or whatever) still stick with their made up version of the Ledoux compound assault.

Was very interesting to finally see the '2002 Cohle and Hart' duo, and we found out a **** ton more about the present day Cohle and Hart.

They lied under oath. Marty blew the head off of a hand cuffed person. Cohle covered it up for him. They will go to their graves with that story.

Watching ep 2. Cohle to detectives:

Girl's school shut down in 92, Andrew. That mean anything to you?

Then he gives them a piercing look, an investigative look. More proof that he is investigating the detectives. Can't wait til Sunday.

Thought that occurred to me:

In the opening credits, there's a series of images. One of the images is a silhouette of Cohle's face. Inside the silhouette is a silhouette of a bald, heavy set man walking towards a body of water.

I don't believe we've seen a bald, heavier guy as a character of relevance in the show. Almost every other person featured in the opening is a character we've seen--though there is a brunette stripper we haven't yet.

Food for thought.

I LOVE having a show that we can discuss weekly (unlike the Netflix shows), and doesn't have spoilers because it was adapted from a book (GoT, Walking Dead, etc). This thread has been a lot of fun.
