If you can't see that two detectives from Louisiana going out to the backwoods to catch the serial killer of the decade with the plan of calling for backup on their cellphones when they get there as the characters deviating from the previously competent detectives the writing had shown them to be, then I can't help you.

If you can't see that splitting up so one character can "find a phone" is straight out of Friday the 13th Part 5, 6, 7 and 8... To the point where movie spoofs reference two characters in a dangerous situation splitting up for no pressing reason over and over then I can't help you.

If you can't see how the existence of a "secret backup phone" is so much of a deviation from the previous episodes and how they handled situations like that, then I can't help you.

It was lazy writing in an otherwise excellent show.

started the series yesterday afternoon, just finished it tonight


wow. some amazing acting.


that chase/escape scene with Rust and the biker in the ghetto was the highlight of the series for me
(that, and the creeeeeeepy ending to episode 3, where Rust is talking about monsters and the camera zooms in on Ledoux with the gas mask and machette)

Except that the news cast at the end tells us the packages were sent. They were sent because Cohle wasn't able to contact the bar keep and tell him not to send them.

Was there a clock or calender that showed how much time had passed between the conversation and the confrontation?


I don't need those kind of insignificant details painted for me.

Well said.

I feel that the people *****ing about the finale's outcome were just looking for some crazy blown out of proportion take down. These guys were not superheroes. No plan is completely fail safe or even completely hatched beforehand. They were just regular people in a shtf situation. Bunch of whiners around here. Go back to your crappy tv.

HBO entering True Detective in the Emmys as a Drama, not Miniseries as was expected. Best actor in a drama category will be the most loaded its ever been, which is saying something.

Meh. I like the move. It's ballsy, and shows they aren't afraid to put their best against any other network's best. Probably going to lose to BB for best show this year, but it will be poised to win the award the next however many seasons they want to go, with House of Cards their only legit competition.

Meanwhile I think McConaghey will beat Cranston this year.

I do think MM wins now, mainly because they like to give it to the "new kid on the block", just like they did with Cranston for season 1.

I think BB wins best drama mainly due to the hype surrounding it. MM wins best actor fairly easily. Harrelson vs Paul will be an interesting one, but I think Paul wins that one. Best director will be interesting, as well, with Rian Johnson (BB: Ozymandias) vs Nic. I give the edge to Nic based purely on the last 6-7 minutes of episode 4.
