I was a little underwhelmed. Obviously the show was about Harrelson/McConaughey relationship, and while i thought that was very well done -- its tough to feel that much for the characters after only 8 (?) episodes.
The other characters in the show were barely fleshed out at all (likely on purpose).
Was good see McConaughey play the role, but it wasn't far from the role he played (very well) in Frailty.
Was hoping for a little more from the actual case -- though I knew after 7 episodes that was very unlikely with just one more hour left... Basically we're left with a weirdo that kills kids. He has blood relations with powerful people in Louisiana, but none of that was really touched upon in the show. We know there was a conspiracy/cover-up, but for now all we got was the "spaghetti monster". Carcosa? Nope. Yellow King? Nope. Just a messed up dude.
I do like how it probably very much reflects the life of an investigator (beating themselves up about missing obvious clues, little things like "green ears" jogging something in their memory, etc...), but I felt I'd seen that angle done better in Mann's Manhunter -- you actually had chills when Graham finally put it together... not so much with "oh green ears? I remember a green house."
Well above average show, but wouldn't crack my Top 10 and not something I'd ever re-watch.
