Without reading any specifics, I casually glanced over that pitch treatment I have and just saw that the final page is titled "SEASON TWO AND FRANCHISE POTENTIAL." A blurb that's a little less than half a page long. I doubt Pizzolatto had anything about season two figured out that far back, but still, I cannot wait to read this thing. Will post tonight at some point after it airs.

wow, we got the happy ending. Thought Rust was a goner. Just a touch of supernatural in the final battle (or at least I think that was)

I was a little underwhelmed. Obviously the show was about Harrelson/McConaughey relationship, and while i thought that was very well done -- its tough to feel that much for the characters after only 8 (?) episodes.

The other characters in the show were barely fleshed out at all (likely on purpose).

Was good see McConaughey play the role, but it wasn't far from the role he played (very well) in Frailty.

Was hoping for a little more from the actual case -- though I knew after 7 episodes that was very unlikely with just one more hour left... Basically we're left with a weirdo that kills kids. He has blood relations with powerful people in Louisiana, but none of that was really touched upon in the show. We know there was a conspiracy/cover-up, but for now all we got was the "spaghetti monster". Carcosa? Nope. Yellow King? Nope. Just a messed up dude.

I do like how it probably very much reflects the life of an investigator (beating themselves up about missing obvious clues, little things like "green ears" jogging something in their memory, etc...), but I felt I'd seen that angle done better in Mann's Manhunter -- you actually had chills when Graham finally put it together... not so much with "oh green ears? I remember a green house."

Well above average show, but wouldn't crack my Top 10 and not something I'd ever re-watch.

Thought it was an awesome ending! Intense, creepy, violent, gut wrenching, sincere. It had everything.

My only complaint was the lack of explanation on the rituals, Carcosa, etc. Guess we're just supposed to chalk it up to bayou Creole voodoo?

Liked liked how they brought Rust and Marty full circle and mended that relationship. Very well done and can't wait to see what they have for us in season 2.

I understand where you're coming from mhayden . For me, I loved it. Given who created and wrote the series I expected no crazy finish. Even with the hundreds of ridiculous theories I had faith they would play it out this way and I'm happy they did.

As I said on a previous page, this is about the ride, not the finish. I appreciated that every moment along the way so it would have been less gratifying to see something turn into a long crazy twist and turny final episode.

Would have loved to see someone down on the bayou, watching the news reports of the serial killer being caught on tv

You see a blank expression on a close up of his face, then the camera focuses on the wall behind his head, and you see one if those masks hanging on the wall

End of series

Earlier in the episode Marty asks Cohle if he still sees things (has visions). Cohle replies that you can't cure what his mind went through. In the cave he was having another vision attack when Childress jumped him.

Didn't he taste the aluminum in a previous episode right before having one of those visions?

I'm not sure. I thought they might have been alluding back to the first episode when they came upon the murder scene. Did he say he tasted aluminum then? I am probably wrong but that's what I thought that meant. They were close to the origin of the evil.

The "vision" was very Metaphysical. The hole in the dome became a wormhole which is reminiscent of Cohle's speech about space-time and alternate dimensions. Also there WAS a Yellow King in that chamber. There was a giant stick man draped with yellow cloth. Very Lovecraftian.

I really liked it. I feel like the disturbing stuff with Marty's daughter was left dangling a little, but I'm ok with a few threads like that.

I can see how this was a disappointment to all the nihilists who thought this was a documentary of sorts

some men just want to watch the world burn
