Yeah, but she's got a lot of emotional baggage that she's never getting over. She also has a messed up family (though they have a nice lake house) and if you marry her you get to deal with her Mom and Dad as well. No thanks.

I think Daddario has the least baggage and is the most likely to become a good wife. She's got baggage as well but at least she wants to find a nice guy and settle down. Her only BSC came when Marty crossed the line and decided he wanted to treat her like his private property while he stayed married. Hard to blame her honestly as Marty likely blew it for her with what seemed like a decent guy (or at least one with one of the best lines of the series when he said "a little bit".

The ex hooker is just asking for trouble. She's likely to end up screwing around after a few years and obviously has major issues that are nearly impossible to resolve.

I'd kill the wife, screw the hooker, and marry Daddario. If nothing else I could get lost in those boobies forever.

That show is called "The Killing" and was on AMC for 2 God forsaken seasons.
Imagine True Detective but with the worst direction, writing, acting, scenery, and story line ever created.

The creator of True Detective was a writer on The Killing.

quote:
His transition to television was similarly modest: staff writing job for The Killing, where he probably took in a little more than the $2,600 a week minimum for a union writer, but probably didn’t work the whole year.

I'll be the second to predict the wet fart ending.

wondering if Tuttle is more involved with the cover-up of what's happened than the actual killings (especially since he's already dead). In another words he learned in the early 90's that bad things were happening to the kids and spent years sweeping it under the rug and covering everything up.

will be interesting to see what role the 2 black detective play in the last 2 episodes. Do they ever leave the building and get out in the field and either join or fight Marty & Rust?

I think Marty's daughters are going to be tied into what's going on...in order for Maggie to be involved in the final hunt for the killers in the last 2 episodes.

Otherwise there wouldn't be any need for her character in the last 2 shows (if the daughters or father-in-law are not somehow part of the killings). This way she will have to interact with Marty & Rust in the year 2012 (after everything that happened at the end of episode 6)

I hope it's not a case of "lack of institutional control" Tuttle sweeping everything under the rug, leading to a wet fart ending.

Just as an aside to this thread.

With the phenom that TD has become I picked up Pizzolato's novel Galveston and am about 75% through it.

Great read. Has a bunch of similarities with TD as far as setting, style, mood. He's a master at creating a picture and it shows in TD and Galveston. It's not a crime mystery so it lacks the twists, turns, and underlying mysteries that the show does. Pretty quick read too and if you like TD it's worth a read.

I think Maggie's character introduction in 2012 was not in vain even if the girls aren't involved. Maggie was brought in by the detectives to try and find out more about Cohle's character (we realize they are trying to build a case again him for Tuttle's murder) and speaking to the wife of his former partner of 7 years is a logical way of doing so.

Maggie's questioning was also able to highlight the '02 debacle between the 3 of them. I think the writers were trying to make a point with Maggie lying in her questioning about her relationship with Cohle to the detectives: no one in the story is completely innocent of anything.

IMHO- I don't think we see Maggie again the '12 timeline, maybe in the flashback if at all.

Pardon me if this has been hashed out...my brain is fried from all of the crazy theories running around.

Is it possible that the pics that the tent revival preacher referred to last week were of a bunch of the kids, in the same class, that have all been discussed and referred to? And now (or over the years) those kids have been [are being] killed to cover it all up? Either by the guy that had the photos, or by a lower down the totem poll guy connected to Tuttle? The photo a page or two back of the kids from that class which included a couple of the dead girls got me to thinking about that possibility. Could the boy (whose father Cohle met last week) who died on the river and the authorities blamed it on a gator, have been one of them (the kids from that class)?

The pedophile cover up by Tuttle is the big part of this thing and I'm just wondering how far it goes, or if all the victims are connected through that and the school.

Just thought of this reading previous post and I'm going to call my shot now - Tuttle ODs on sleeping pill after Cohle "interviews" him and suggests he should kill himself. Complete mind control Jedi ninja style.

Maybe an ultimatum type scenario, "Take these pills or I expose you to the world." Or maybe he threatened to torture him (place a mirror in front of him, peel his face off, feed him his balls)?

I rewatched the preacher-Cohle scene last night. im pretty sure the pics the preacher found were of kids that were dead. I could be wrong as it was right before I went to sleep though

Man, I'm thinking about this and there still has to be a pretty good surprise thrown in there somewhere. I just can't see that lawn mower guy being the type of person that could command the respect these guys have for the "yellow king." Or being the type of guy that could talk a guy into suicide over the phone.

So, if Tuttle is covering it up and he is dead, then he can't be the "yellow king" since we have a murder after Tuttle died.

It is going to be hard to sell the lawn mower guy as this super mastermind. It's has to be somebody or something "bigger" at the end, right?

I think as of right now with all the theories I'd take it to be the lawnmower guy is doing all the killing, but Tuttle is orchestrating the cover-up.

Way too much navel gazing about this show. It's a broken taillight. And it's not a symbol for something deep. Or a red badge of courage that he keeps.

Rust has simply been too consumed to fix it. Is he consumed with solving these serial killings? Or is he consumed with alcoholism? I'll bet it's the detective work. But I know we'll find out in next two episodes and it won't have anything to do with automobile maintenance.

Two things seems certain...

We're gonna find out what Rust has been up to for the last ten years in the next episode.

Whatever it is, it convinces Marty to get back in the saddle and finish things once and for all with Rust in the last episode.

I finally watched the last three episodes today (and caught up on the last 20 pages of this thread).

Everything has been hashed and rehashed a million times over the last month, but random observation.

In the "flash forward" at the meth lab, it showed LeDoux in the gas mask with the machete in his underwear.

When they actually got to the meth lab, they didn't see LeDoux until Hart was in the house, he was wearing a towel and no gas mask or machete.

Any thoughts on that? Or did I completely miss something in the month that I took between episodes 3 and 4.

This.

That shot wasn't from Rust and Marty's perspective.

Yeah, I think we all forget at times that we are viewing this all from an omniscient 'narrator'. We spend so much time seeing things from Cohle and Rust's recollection, but there are the rare instances (like when Maggie goes to the bar to pick up a dude) when we are privvy to other action that is occurring outside of rust and Cohle's perspective.

Given all the mystery and speculation that this story brings up, I think it was helpful and purposeful that the show has made a point to make it clear that what we see is always real; tht despite what Rust and Cohle (and now Maggie) say to mislead the detectives, we the viewers will always get a true perspective.

Re-watching the last episode and I have a very insignificant question: why in the **** did Marty take the bag of tampons he bought into the bar?

I had the same question and also was wondering why/how he ended up at beth's place of work and what was written on the paper he gave her at the Verizon store that ended up with her meeting him at Fox and hound. did he search her out purposely? Obviously he took advantage of the situation, but it just seemed weird that after 7 years he went and looked her up

I don't think he looked her up or gave her a piece of paper to meet him there. Thought he went there for a beer and she came in after she got off work.

Same here. He didn't have a clue who she was until she told him the backstory. She flirted with him because she remembered him making the "down payment" all those years back.
