I bet there will be many streets where only a few homes survive fully intact...maybe some with just 1 or 2 remaining. Can you imagine what a depressing environment that would be to live in? I would almost be rooting for my home to burn down if it was looking like mine was one of few remaining. I used to get kind of sad driving through Bastrop...can't imagine living on a completely scorched neighborhood block with no vegetation and only my home, and possibly a couple others.

I had just assumed all these winds were coming from the west off of the ocean. I'm hoping this is good news in that if it's coming from the northeast the fires will have to stop when they get to the coastline at least.

I am no weatherman, but the winds shifting the other direction (from the west instead of east) seems like the ultimate nightmare scenario...even if that air may carry more moisture, I would think the fires would easily rage for miles and miles to the east. I am hoping this doesn't happen...or that I am compleyely ignorant in what would happen.

I guess that is the only silver lining here, that it just burned from very close inland to the coast, east to west...seems like north to south would spell disaster too...although you reach a certain point where vegetation is minimal in LA and it's basically a concrete jungle. Not sure how deep into the actual city these fires could go on their own.

Disclaimer: I studied accounting and have no clue what I am talking about when it comes to wildfires or weathern patterns.

Normal homeowners insurance doesn't cover wildcard fires. Just like it doesn't cover flood damage. A wildfire rider has to be added to your coverage and most insurers have already dropped those polices in recent years. A large portion will be completely exposed to damages. FEMA doesn't have a wildfire policy like they do with Flood.

So who gets the government housing? Illegals or California home owners that just lost their homes to fires?

Just heard the Reel Inn is also gone. All my spots. The wife and I go out there in August most years for a week or so to escape the heat in Houston. Almost positive the house we air bnb is gone. Friends private club on the beach is gone.

Wondering if Pepperdine makes it. Last I heard fire was 3 miles away. Wind throwing embers over 2 miles. That's how beachfront burned.
