Am I supposed to believe that someone who has 22 years on the job and rose through the ranks starting as a Firefighter, then Paramedic, Engineer, Fire Inspector, Captain I, Captain II, Battalion Chief, Assistant Chief, Deputy Chief, Chief Deputy, and now Fire Chief is not qualified for the job because they're gay?"
I will be honest, it sure seems this was all set up to fail when the fires came ? DEI hires that are now obviously not qualified for their position, insurance companies cutting contracts just 4 months ago, no water in the hydrants due to water supply issues, money being cut from the LAFD in large quantities, arsonist caught lighting fires, now they didn't even test the fire hydrants this year? I mean what else am I missing ? Something doesn't smell rightnortex97 said:— Catturd ™ (@catturd2) January 10, 2025
Good job LA voters!
Last year Gov. Newsom vetoed a bill that would have let CalFire retain seasonal firefighters to help with staffing shortages. His veto forced the layoff of thousands of seasonal firefighters, who he never replaced despite his promises. This is negligence of the highest order. pic.twitter.com/f5c4Hvj073

Are we about to find out these fires are being set by illegal migrant gangs with the intent of looting?
Or maybe to distract law enforcement? https://t.co/xjyb6nSMx3 pic.twitter.com/ZiVrE1Hukw

Basically, California voters passed a law in 1988 called Proposition 103, which made it way harder for insurance companies to operate in the state without getting their asses kicked. On top of requiring insurance companies to get government permission from an elected commissioner before raising rates (I'm suuuuuuure that doesn't distort the market, wink wink), the law makes it far more difficult for actuariesthe math nerds who rake in gobs of money making sure insurance companies don't price their policies too low and, you know, go out of business) to do their jobs.
You know that whole thing about "the future might not look like the past"? Insurance companies in California are only able to use old historical data, not advanced statistical models that account for how the world might be changing (such as southern California becoming hotter or drier or windier).
Insurance companies in Californiaunlike in literally every other state in America!also aren't allowed to pass on the cost of reinsurance (think of reinsurance as big boy insurance policies that little boy insurance companies purchase to pass along the risk of having to make massive payouts after largescale disasters, such as half the city of Los Angeles getting wiped off the face of the earth), which means any insurance company that operates in California pretty much has to eat a big whopping **** sandwich whenever something bad happens. Because of all this, many of the major insurance companiesState Farm, Allstate, USAA, Travelers, Nationwide, all the usual suspects you see advertising with cartoon mascots during the Super Bowlhave reduced coverage across the entire state, and State Farm pulled out of Pacific Palisades entirely.
1,400 of the 9,000 homes in the neighborhood had insurance through the state's insurance company of last resort, a janky government operation called the FAIR Plan. But the FAIR Plan only has around $200 million set aside, and its exposure in Pacific Palisades alone is close to six billion-with-a-B dollars. Whoops! Now pour me another glass of champagne and let's talk about those fire hydrants that somehow ran out of water.
They still had insurance, it was just dropped by one carrier.fullback44 said:
Yeah lots of stuff going on and not a field I know much about.. something just doesn't add up.. system was setup to fail.. and boy did it. Can you imagine if you had a $4-5 million home burn down because these jokers were all in charge..and on top of that you had no insurance because it was dropped? I bet there are thousands of absolutely livid people over there…. Prob not a good time to go visit the LA area
On top of all this, Trump will be sworn in soon and he will go to California and bring all this stuff up in his press conference over there…. This will make them even madder when the sitting US president calls out their governor and all their city officials for allowing this to happen. Hell he's already calling for Newsome to resign

I already said this was all arson. There was no lightening strikes. And u til I hear otherwise, no arcing of powerlines.
Its is plausible of a homeless camp starting a fire, but 3 lit off in close time, yet far apart that it wasn't embers.
There are gangs in LA deliberately starting fires so that people evacuate then and they can rob their homes

This is happening at a large scale, at least 100 robbers
Likely the Chilean crime syndicate

Also think some consideration should be given to using eminent domain for road expansion or at a minimum alternative ways out of neighborhoods. One way in and one way out is problematical, as we have just seen.Raiderjay said:she is also missing things like:Krombopulos Michael said:

- underbrush control
- controlled burns
- proper preparation and staging for potential fires
- ample water supply
Just because these fires happen and will continue to happen, doesn't mean they can't do better preparation and action to prevent them from being so "catastrophic"
