Interesting that they broke out Filipino into its own category.

LOL. If you see a news story in any way similar to this regarding essential services in a city you live in…move far away.

Yeah, I don't get it. Conservatives choose to stay there despite the liberal, woke incompetence in their government. James Woods is about to lose his house. He's a very smart, hardcore conservative. He could have easily sold his house to an insane lefty and moved away long ago. SMH.
It's hard to leave the only place you've ever known. Or a place you love. I know we like to pretend SoCal is one big hellscape, but places like this, Newport Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, La Jolla etc. are incredible places that are largely insulated from the madness and crime and homelessness. A lot of these people just bite the bullet and pay higher taxes/costs to remain in a beautiful place that they love...but more and more people are making the tough emotional decision to flee to other states. Many can barely handle our summers because the climate there is so incredible pretty much year round.

I was wondering about that. Seems like a gamble to stay there with a $20million house if you can't get home insurance that covers fires.

Yep, big wakeup call...but many of those homes have been there for decades and decades, totally fine. Will be interesting to see what the reponse to this is.

Changes in building codes and permitting to rebuild will become even more burdensome. Many of those people simply will not be able to do it and sell their burned out lots for what they can get. Much the same as what happened in Lahaina.

We should focus on the positives. They built a high speed rail bridge over a viaduct.

Typical leftist boondoggle. That comes to $6,875,000 per foot of rail.

Libs are nuts. That's absolutely inexcusable.

Just saw a woman, mid 30s maybe early 40s complaining that she couldn't get her car out of the garage because her garage door opener was electric and the power was off.

So dumb.

Yes, dumb. But you know Hawg, some people have no idea how things work.

Hope all these EVs were fully charged.

Following up on this...

for those who don't know how to open your garage door manually, learn how it to do it this weekend.

Also, make sure you know where your water main is and how to open and close it. Go outside, close it, come inside, and run your water to check. Then open it back up. Do that this weekend too. Might also want to make sure you check the charge on your fire extinguisher (oh, you dont have a fire extinguisher?! get one!) and your smoke detector if you've never done that.

Also:
  • Find your breaker box(s) and make sure they are accessible.
  • If you have gas appliances, install CO detectors.
  • Tell the other people in the house where these items are and how to use them.
  • Make sure you have the correct tool to close any valves stored NEAR the valve.
  • Quick stories: I lived in earthquake country and the gas line had an emergency valve that would close during moderate earthquakes. Old timers also kept a wrench next to the valve just in case that emergency valve didn't close.A bad time to learn that your water main valve doesn't close completely is when you have a sudden, major water leak.

We joke about Cali falling into the ocean, and it does have a bunch of dipsh**ts running and residing in that state, but regardless, I hate to see this. The most beautiful state imo...and TONS of good friendly people there out that we often ignore in discussion.

praying for them.

The thing that p*sses me off though, is that so many have been brainwashed into thinking this is a "climate change" thing...and it will just further reinforce false and dangerous narratives in the minds of millions of wackjobs.
Yeah, and the same ones who are peddling the climate change garbage will definitely NOT point out all the idiotic environmentalist regulations of the last several decades Californians are subjected to which helped create this tinderbox.

Then again, the whack jobs you mentioned likely voted for the representatives who are in favor of the idiotic environmentalist tripe, so they've really shot themselves in the foot. Can't say it's all Californian's fault though because these fires have been occurring in these areas for centuries. It's just the increase in population and blatantly stupid policies have exacerbated the situation, to say the least.

One can still pray for them, they're gonna need all the help they can get!

The Hubs said earlier they do have the ability to draw water from pools, ponds, other sources of water if they can get close enough to tap into them.

What's keeping them from tapping into and using larger sources like say THE PACIFIC OCEAN?

Pretty sure salt water fights fires just as well as pool and pond water.

Yep. Those Forest Management regulations were exactly what I was talking about in my previous post. The scope of more recent fires are x number of times worse than if proper forest management were allowed to be performed. And then, morons like Newsom won't even allow for water resources to be utilized when everything goes to **** in a handbasket! What a dolt!

Sounds like the historical building is the Getty Museum.
Didn't the Getty do something smart a few years back and employ ranchers and hundreds of goats to eat all the surrounding vegetation to create a buffer around it?

I know they did this in the past, and am I just too dense to think that this could be done at scale throughout the canyons at MINIMAL cost? These fires are fueled by dense underbrush that hundreds or thousand of goats could beat back if done consistently.
That's the fight. Nature preservationists feel removal of surrounding vegetation can potentially harm spotted owl or some rare ground gray squirrels...

I wonder what those ******* owls think about this now

Homeowners will sue the city for not providing adequate fire protection. The city will sue/blame "some entity" with money for causing the fires… us taxpayers will suffer.
Circle jerk continues.

Exactly. And CA residents will continue to vote for policies and people that do the exact opposite of what's needed to prevent this kind of disaster.
