So California gets help and NC/Florida get $750.00 each and are being kicked out of their hotels this week. Gotcha.

IIRC, a few of those foams have carcinogens in them. They also have to be mixed from concentrate.Build It said:
I'm surprised many of these homes didn't have the expensive foam ******ant systems that are available. I'm not that educated on them, but sure seems like they would have saved some homes.

WHO IS MAYOR KAREN BASS?
— BelannF (@BelannF) January 9, 2025
Now does it all make sense?
If this is true - it's time for Karen to be investigated - Was this all a plan to let LA burn? pic.twitter.com/65EOq7jP40
As posted above, it might have been issued in error. But i'm guessing you know that already.Sid Farkas said:

Yeah the time that the fire takes to get to the line is typically better spent widening or extending the line rather than fighting back from my understanding. I'll defer to expertise.
That's the textbook tactic…
Now in highly urban areas (and I am stepping beyond my level expertise because my wildfire experiences are limited to rural areas in/around Travis County), I would surmise that since there is no real "bare land" to work with to help widen your defense line, it's nearly impossible until the fire breaks out of an urban area and out in the open where you have ground to work with…it's not like you can start bulldozing neighborhoods, street by street, to build a defense barrier…no time and not practical…
What I'm seeing in these highly urban LA areas makes me think about the Great Chicago Fire of 1871…a bunch of densely-constructed buildings back to back to back with no break from which to set up a defense…
There may be highways and major roads that could be used. Also possibly green belts, but I don't know if LA has anything like that.
And in California, they're probably illegal anyway.aggiehawg said:IIRC, a few of those foams have carcinogens in them. They also have to be mixed from concentrate.Build It said:

For those reasons, foam is not practical for residential use, minus a ginormus mansion.

They may have had some chemical munitions going through there to or from Pine Bluff Arsenal.aggiehawg said:Probably.HollywoodBQ said:And in California, they're probably illegal anyway.aggiehawg said:IIRC, a few of those foams have carcinogens in them. The Hubs is 66. he was an AF brat and lived on base throughout his childhood. I know his Dad was exposed to something when he was in Vietnam but every year or so, we'd get a call from someone from DOD asking about The Hubs' health. WTH?
What was going on on Little Rock AFB?
Could have been. They were also stationed in South Carolina for a spell.Quote:

Structure numbers can be estimated. Finding corpses in the middle of a fire isn't that easy. Most places they probably still can't get to.HumpitPuryear said:
With thousands of structures and autos destroyed there has to be casualties. Why no news of casualties?
I understand that but there are still emergency services going into these neighborhoods and I assume some people going to hospitals. There should be some numbers coming in by now on some casualties or at least number of individuals that are reported as missing. There's nothing on how to find family in shelters and such. Just seems odd this far into the event. I've not been sitting in front of a television today so maybe I've missed it. Lots of news about property damage though.TA-OP said:Structure numbers can be estimated. Finding corpses in the middle of a fire isn't that easy. Going to be interesting how many people who were living there deeply in debt and upside down on their house who disappear and no remains are ever found in their house.HumpitPuryear said:I understand that but there are still emergency services going into these neighborhoods and I assume some people going to hospitals.
