found it interesting in episode 3 that marty drives over a little girl's bike on the curb parking at lisa's apartment on his way to confront her and her date.

I've been wondering about all the "known" actors that are having minor rolls that they have to have some sort of impact on the overall story. My thought is these are all HBO actors and under contract and probably have obligations to appear in TD because HBO wants that.

Yeah, a lot of these "known" actors y'all are talking about are only known because they are character/minor actors in a show you love that's on the same network.

It's not like Chris Cooper is showing up and playing some little obscure role.

I love their chemistry, especially the way Hart reacts to Cohle's philosophical ramblings with pure disdain.

chris cooper? WTF. how did you come up with him as your example of a known actor? i know who he is, but seriously?
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
he's a known character actor who pops up in movies and **** all over the place. I just used it as an example to offset this idea that because you noticed an actor in another show on the same network that it's now "odd" because he's "known" and it must mean something.

I think the last few pages of this thread have been rather humorous on multiple levels with some of these predictions and discussions but in an effort to not derail the thread I'm trying to stay out of the fray.

I agree with Bunk. And I don't really know how Remus from Boardwalk Empire is a known actor. You just recognized him from a popular show (I didn't, and I didn't remember who Remus was).

Shea Wigham (Eli Thompson) is a little different. He's starting to be pretty recognizable, and has been in a lot of big movies the last few years. But I think we're just getting into semantics, and trying to find things that aren't really there. Looking for clues for a twist. I don't think the writers are trying to fool us.

Remus thinks Remus' stature is being discounted here. Remus is a big deal. Remus is getting upset.

I didn't recognize him either. I did make the mistake of looking at his imdb page. It doesn't contain a single fact about his character, but still manages to act as a spoiler.
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah I know. He's just a guy that if he shows up in a movie or something as a character actor(now he's getting more leading and supporting roles the last few years) you immediately know will have something important to do with the story.

Probably could have used a better example but that's what I went with.

Point remains the same.

Actually, let's just stick to actors on this show. Clarke Peters(lester freeman on the wire) was a much bigger character from another HBO show and he just played a small, minor role as a pastor at the very beginning.

I'm not sitting here going "well cool Lester Smooth was the pastor for 3 minutes of screentime, he must be involved in the case!"
Bunk Moreland

and FTR, remus may end up playing a huge role. I'm not discounting that, I have just found a lot of the discussion the last few pages pretty funny in some ways.

I think the point was that the writers and creators of the show intentionally introduce doubt on characters. the point was directly opposite of sex panther above stating the writers are not trying to fool us. to have a detective show, a mystery show,, I think it is in their best interest to string along the viewers. I agree that stating someone who is recognizable only has one minor dialog and using that to cast doubt may be overdoing it, but I wouldn't put it past them

Haha so I was re-watching episode 3 last night and the dance hall scene where Chole describes his "hypersensitivty" or whatever he called it. It made me think about this line from the locker room in ep 2 in a whole new light!

On my third watching of the first episode I just realized that when they're driving to the place where they get the Fontenot lead and cohle asks about believing in ghosts I think that's his daughter that waves to him. Sorry if this was obvious

Wonder why Rust asks Marty about fly fishing at dinner in episode 1?

Are those devil catchers strung with fly line?

I thought this was very interesting considering the conversation of this thread so far.

quote:
I’ve enjoyed reading people theorize about what’s going to happen because it’s a sign that you’re connecting. But I’m also sort of surprised by how far afield they’re getting. Like, why do you think we’re tricking you? It’s because you’ve been abused as an audience for more than 20 years. The show’s not trying to outsmart you. And really if you pay attention… if someone watches the first episode and really listens, it tells you 85 percent of the story of the first six episodes.

And now I feel like I have to go back and rewatch episode one.

Rewatched all three this morning and decided to google "Carcosa" after seeing it in Dora's diary and found this.

"The passages we see mention a "yellow king" and the word "Carcosa." Rust observes that it "reads like fantasy." He is correct! Though the episode doesn't explicitly mention it, there is a book of short stories by Robert Chambers called The King in Yellow, published in 1895, that repeatedly references a place called Carcosa.

The wiki link to the book is interesting.

Also, the final 7 minutes or so of A locked Room is one of the creepiest scenes I've ever seen. The droning music really makes it freaky.

Btron, I agree with your post from a few pages back.

Never thought Cohle was the killer. Picked up on the Se7en vibe, and it is going to be way less straight-forward than that.

He seems way more in control than Hart.

Cohle & Hart, ftw in this thread. No more simple WH and MM unless referring to the actors themselves.

I just realized that after the "you got some p*ssy on you" comment, when Hart is in the car while Cohle is beating the **** out of that one guy for info, Hart is sniffing his fingers presumably attempting to see if he can smell what Cohle was talking about.

RE watched the first 3 eps today and only 7 minutes into this new one tonight...

*prediction alert*

I think the religious Tuttle is in on it

*end prediction *

Laugh at me when I'm wrong but RE watching his scene and the words here and there as it goes, I'm rolling with that. But I'm only 7 minutes into this ep so I reserve the right to change my mind in an hour
