The taillight is a symbol of the broken system that Louisiana law enforcement and government was, and will continue to be, until the Yellow King is captured or killed.

Or....it could symbolize Cohle and Hart's partnership. How it too was broken so many years ago, and is in need of repair.

Or....it could symbolize the relationship between Marty and his lovely wife Maggie. How it was broken that day, and is in need of some good old fashion duct tape.

But....I'm pretty sure it's just a broken taillight that someone, so consumed with solving a case, hasn't had time to get to his local auto parts store. Plus, it was a pretty cool camera angle to close out the episode.

There is no reason to include the scenes of Marty's daughter unless there is some tie-in to the murders. F-i-l seems most likely, daughter saw something she wasn't supposed to, and it will come out next week.

I think cohle expects to die at the end of this, and is ready to do so. I think he hopes he is killed bringing this all to light. I think suicide is a possibility, but will he gain the courage to do it if he survives this last stand? I think he hopes he dies, and does not have to resort to pulling the trigger himself.

I love this show, but one thing bugs me. Why do the dead bodies with antlers show up at all? If the bad guys have been killing women and children for years, why are those antler bodies allowed to be found. If the crazies are so good at covering up all the missing women and children, why leave the 1995 and 2012 antler bodies to be found.

And why leave the bodies in the ritualistic form they left them? Wouldn't the crazies want to hide the ritualistic nature of the deaths?

I have a feeling these questions won't be answered. Maybe one of the crazies (scarface) did this by himself for some reason. Wants to show off or something.

One last nitpick, the scarred up dude. The leads to him have been scars on the face and tall. I just don't see his standout description as tall. Big, yes. Fat, yes. Fat face, yes. But not just "tall". Hell, I can't even tell if he is overly tall, but we haven't seen him next to anyone yet. Still, tall is not a good descriptor for him.

It's to keep those involved quiet, obviously. If they were just simple deaths no one would notice, however, the very specific way in which these individuals were killed sends an obvious message to all that are involved.

Really interesting theory I just saw retweeted and hadn't seen anywhere else yet. Doubt they actually go in this direction, but it's something to think about...

My True Detective finale prediction: Rust actually lost his daughter to Tuttle cult in past, staged Dora Lange murder to force investigation

Alex Blagg ‏@alexblagg
i don't think he murdered her, i think he staged her body. also we know that not everything he says is true.

Him genuinely not sure what the devil catchers were and speaking with the black preacher (Lestor Freeman) about what he thought they were completely kills that theory.

Lawnmower guy is obviously coocoo. Marty was right about it being a "retard job", he just doesn't seem all there. I think Dora Lang and the new victim is just him showing how he'd like to display all his victims, but others won't let him and have used the hurricanes for covering up the deaths.

While that sounds plausible, don't you think they would just kill him if he was becoming that much of a liability? I mean, they killed frickin Tuttle (unless that was Lawnmower guy who did that).

Marty stated last night that he guessed Tuttle killed himself out of fear of blackmail after the photos and video were stolen. That seems the most logical theory to me too.

Yeah, I think I misheard that line from Cohle.

IMO...

The best way to end it is to have R & M hone in on the lawn mower man...confront and kill him (one of R &M die in the process)...only to discover a much more sinister character that eludes them.

Only a truely mind blowing ending will serve this series justice.

Also...count me in for Marty's oldest being uncovered as a victim (former victim lured back in while off her drugs?)

Still haven't seen the very first character shown in the opening credits (before MM and WH). Maybe he's the Yellow King...and mower man is a loyal subject...

****possible spoiler below*****

I think this is the guy in the opening credits. The following link does not call him the YK...but his character title might suggest it?

I could be way off, but don't click the link if you don't want to have a face for the POSSIBLE YK...

P.S. Check out his height in the bio

From the previews to next week:

Is that the bar owner Cohle works for? He's come in handy if so. Not what we are led to believe he is, but he did have an 8 year old son go missing.

Yes, that is the owner of the bar that Rust works at. Coincidence that Rust just happens to work at a bar owned by a guy with a son that went missing and was never found? I think not.

But how does this all tie together? Sunday can't get here fast enough.

Just re watched Ep 5. This is the episode where Rust gets the confession but blows up when the guy mentions the Yellow King. Overnight, the guy supposedly gets a phone call and commits suicide upon returning to his cell. Upon review of the video, Rust asks who were the officers who took him to his call. One of the attending officers was a Childress.

Was it the one with the blonde, spiky hair? He broke up him and Cohle and then lead him to the phone call the next day. Not that it matters, but that officer was there both times.

There's so much attention to detail in this show.

Rust killed his daughter while high undercover. He said they could do whatever they wanted with him to keep him undercover f because he messed up while undercover. It hasn't been said what he screwed up.

He said something along the lines that he shot a junky that had given their baby a bunch of drugs to purify it. Something like he lost it and put 9 rounds or emptied his gun into them.

Pretty sure Rust killed his daughter (accidently backing over her in driveway) before he went undercover. The marriage couldn't survive the death, he had nothing else, so he plunged deep into the undercover role. Nothing at home to miss or make his want to get out. That's why longest stint of undercover anyone had ever heard of.

Forgot about the jailer cop being a Childress. He overheard the rants about the Yellow King and then probably called Sheriff Childress, who told him to effectuate the "suicide".

The theory that Remus, who appears to be somewhat of a dullard, is responsible for the found bodies makes sense. He probably holds a position of power within the group due to legacy (he was about to tell the black detectives about his family history when they cut him off and drove off), and some of the bodies he's been charged with disposing of he's botched, or taken it to the new level of staging them.

Lots to cover in one hour.

He was mowing at a graveyard, maybe he doubled up on those graves.

And his name is Errol, btw

No one knows if Rust killed his daughter or not, but he did say something about living on a street with a bend in the road when talking about how she died. Hinting that she was in the street when a car came around the bend and hit her. No one knows if it was him or someone else.

And yes Rust is in the PD's hands for undercover work because he shot someone several times for pumping drugs into their baby.

I think being a "simple minded lawn guy" is part of his disguise that lets him hide in plain sight.

If TD is truly a nihilistic narrative (circle theory, the answer be right under your nose, evil repeats itself, etc), I could see an ending that is considered anti-climatic to some. Maybe Rust and Marty kill Errol but the audience gets to see that the rituals and murders just continue in a flash forward.

The driving away of the new detectives as Errol starts to divulge information is an interesting similarity to Rust and Marty getting the Ledoux call when first encountering him at the school. The detective's curse continues.

I'm confused - who is Sheriff Childress?

The Sheriff that Marty plays golf with and they kidnap on the boat is Sheriff Steve Geraci.
