Wow. This is pretty crazy, if not completely damning evidence of Pizzolatto's efforts. I still love the final product more than any other show this year, and commend him for even being able to weave all these themes together in such an organic way, but man, it's obvious Pizzolatto absolutely plagiarized much of Rust's dialogue, if not the vast majority of his characterization.
At the very least, I always wondered how the hell Pizzolatto was smart enough - and "out there" enough - to come up with so much of Rust's eloquent, mind-bending dialogue/worldviews. As an aspiring screenwriter, it legitimately made me feel inadequate. At least now I know. He straight up "borrowed" most of it. What's even weirder is that all Pizzolatto had to do was just have Rust reference Ligotti, if only once, and he basically would have been in the clear.
Regardless, I'm sure this will have some kind of effect on season two, even if it's just HBO having to go over every new script with a fine-tooth comb, double and triple-checking the dialogue...
