Easier shorter trips to defend the Gulf states that are bearing the brunt of the Iranian attacks lately.

I think the risk is growing that the people, even though, hating the regime are going to get pissed that Tehran is blown up. They have to limit strikes on the Persian cultural sites

In 2 week is the biggest Iranian holiday. I think it'll be bad if bombing continues until then

they will be moving into the Arabian Sea/Indian Ocean soon

likely to replace the Abraham Lincoln who will head back to Japan

let's see if the Houthis decide to take a few drive by shots as Ford transits the Red Sea

It's becoming quite clear that if we want regime change in Iran, we are going to have to do it ourselves.

If we bomb them, stop bombing, and the people let it go back to the way it was (it's looking this will be the case), then we will have spent 2 years bombing the hell out of Iran for nothing. Iran will ramp up missile production to levels we have not yet seen, and build nukes with zero apprehension.

We are committed now. The IGRC has called our bluff and the people haven't risen up. We have to go in

Early on, we told the people of Iran to stay indoors until such time as the IRGC and police forces are degraded.

Would be a horrible idea for the people to "rise up" at this stage of the mission.

You're not flying over Iraq and Syria where there may be threat detection assets. This allows you more freedom of movement and better attack vectors. The Israelis also have enough assets to cover those approaches. This means shorter flights, quicker and more sorties against the Iranian costal, naval, and offshore instillations and equipment with a greater ability to assist escorted vessels in the straight. Just off the top of my head.

what it really means

is the Combined Chiefs believe there is not much more threat to Israel now,

so they can redeploy USS Ford to where they think best.

Exactly this. We've told them to wait. Trump has even mentioned in press conferences that it is very dangerous outside and for them to wait.
God loves you so much He'll meet you where you are. He also loves you too much to allow to stay where you are.

Trump has stated numerous times and Hegseth as well that this will be a 5-8 week affair depending on who has been speaking about it. Not sure why some feel like if the mission isn't complete or regime change hasn't occurred in 8 days that it means things are going south and plan b's are in the works.

Nowruz is March 20. It's almost 2 week holiday. The symbolism would be excellent to celebrate a new government with new year celebration. But if Iranians can't have a proper nowruz celebration because the bombing continues and when they come out and they see major cultural sites and their cities turned to Gaza, they will be pissed.

Ferdowsi square is already destroyed. There were strikes close to Azadi square. We need to try to preserve stuff like that and Niavaran

This might shift how Trumps handles Russia going forward.

Quote:

Russia is providing Iran with targeting information to attack American forces in the Middle East, the first indication that another major U.S. adversary is participating even indirectly in the war, according to three officials familiar with the intelligence.
The assistance, which has not been previously reported, signals that the rapidly expanding conflict now features one of America's chief nuclear-armed competitors with exquisite intelligence capabilities.
Since the war began Saturday, Russia has passed Iran the locations of U.S. military assets, including warships and aircraft, said the three officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the matter's sensitivity.

Russia has been doing this for years.

Nothing new.

Think back to the encounter between Wagner Group and US Special Forces in Syria in 2018.

(They certainly remember it - we killed 200-300 of them to a whopping 0 of our guys)

The people weren't out on the street because government is oppressive, it was because Iran was collapsing economically. In the 47 years, this is probably the least oppressive the government has been and least strict on the religious rules.

A new US backed government removes the sanctions and helps economically but how big is the hole they need to come out of? I think Trump made a mistake yesterday he'd have a role in picking the new leader. Yes we know but not something to say out loud. Iranians got to do it themselves without people thinking it's a puppet government .

That's possible but Ford has been deployed since June of last year whereas Lincoln has only been out since last November. Most likely Ford will be the first to leave.

It was worse before.

But let me clarify, least oppressive in the course of everyday life. Not when there is an actual uprising happening. It was an economic protest. They didn't just wake up one day and realize these guys are oppressive and start protesting in January.

They lobbed a few about an hour ago that were intercepted. They've been launching missile salvos every night for the last week.

Thus far they've been following a similar pattern to what happened in the 12-day war in june. They will launch three maybe four salvos at a time. Back then it was clear their abilities had been degraded by the 12th day. Now it's even more evident their ability to launch longer range missiles to target Israel itself has been severely degraded. Is it possible they've somehow been saving up for a huge barrage? Possibly.

But Israeli media accounts are reporting as of today Iran only has about 100 to 200 launchers left. That may seem like a lot but it's nothing compared to what they had been building in the lead up to the war. I'm not sure that was either before or after the US took out a huge underground launcher storage/maintenance facility within the last 24 hours.

Not discounting that as a possibility at all, but from what I'm reading the posture and messaging of Israeli and US forces seems to have changed over the last day or so.
