YES!!! Someone finally started this thread.

I am a super fan of the WoT. Been looking forward to this since they announced in 2015. The short coming in the books, particularly the middle books, can be rectified in a TV series. So excited.

LAn and Thom Merrilin. I think they will cast thom in his mid to late 40s. I don't think it will be someone in his 60s.

Oh, I think it will be seven seasons. Two books per season or maybe one season is three books and they spend one entire season on Memory of Light.

A good fan website to watch is the Daily Trolloc. He keeps a good tab on the latest rumors and information.

I need to refresh myself on the books to see what would make sense from a story arc perspective. Two books a season definitely makes sense to keep things tight, but I do feel that the Rand reveal at the end of Eye of the World is a perfect season ender. Memory of Light being a full season does make sense. There's a ton that happens there.

The daily Trolloc posted an article a few weeks back with titles of the first 6 episodes. Each season will be 10 episodes. Based on the title of the first 6, it looks like season 1 will be the first two books. So they will end with Rand at the end of the great hunt accepting that he is the Dragon Reborn.

They are giving it a large budget. I think it's going to be the same quality as GoT. And Rosamund Pike has been cast as Moiraine. I think Amazon really wants this to be successful and will spend the money to make it successful.

I will give it a watch. I read the first 5-6 books 25 years ago. Gave up when I got live with the books and waited a year for a book to repeat everything in the last one.

Those are pretty big books...a bit worried that one season will be two of them. The adaptation needs to be top notch.

The Last Kingdom has been doing that, but the books and those story arcs are much shorter.

Yeah. They are huge books but there really is not a lot that happens in each book.

So I was remembering incorrectly, but I could've sworn there was a failed attempt to make WOT a tv series in the past - but was thinking about the horrendous attempt at televising the Sword of Shannara trilogy (another series I'm a big fan of). Anyone remember this garbage?

So excited and that cast looks fantastic.

I agree that I don't want a Teen-beat version. Serious question though - the books didn't have language or sex. Would just keeping it close from an action perspective (and the occasional torture with magic) warrant TVMA anyway?

They could make it MA easily without sex or language depending on the tone of the darkfriends and how they do the dreams. But they will at least do some sex, nudity i bet.

It's going to be TV MA. There is an article on dragonmount.com discussing what to expect in the tv show. Sounds like they are going for a game of thrones maturity. The casting call for both Egwene and Nynaeve includes nudity requirements.

I would have liked to see them stretch Eye of the World and Memory of Light each in one season. There is so much description in the books, they should be able to condense most of the books into two per season. They also will probably drop some of the story arcs (such as morgase) and condense others (Perrin in Murandy for example).

This series is tricky to think about, because we all just remember how long it took and the meandering it went through before Sanderson stepped in and finished it out nicely. The story itself is really interesting, and should make for great tv.

I agree. I am a big fan, but even I will admit there are parts in the late middle that drag. I think a TV series can fix many of those issues. Especially since most of the description can be quickly conveyed by visuals.

I'm curious how they will portray channeling. Also, we are in the heads of the characters and learn motivations without actual dialogue. It will be interesting how they address this in the show.
