So excited and that cast looks fantastic.
I agree that I don't want a Teen-beat version. Serious question though - the books didn't have language or sex. Would just keeping it close from an action perspective (and the occasional torture with magic) warrant TVMA anyway?
I mean, there's lots of implied sexual stuff. And that's ignoring the fact that every time he describes a woman reaching for the source, he's not so subtly describing an orgasm.
For anyone touting the teen drama aspect, I mean, the actors are basically at the ages that the Two Rivers folks are in the books. Keep in mind that they do start out as teenagers, with Nynaeve a bit older, so casting them to that look is not an indication that it'll be CW-esque at all. I mean, it could be, but it wouldn't fit in the spirit of the work, not with the way the characters all mature across the series.
Ok I knew I wasn't the only one that equated the source to orgasm! I'm male but I think it applies to both sources. The male has to "walk the razor's edge" and not lose control while the female has to 'relax and let it take over". I always thought that equated to sex but thought I was the only one who made that connection and never really looked into it on the web.
I never looked into Jordan's personal life but it also made me think of the current trendy views of "man bad woman good" of modern society as the male source was the corrupted but women's source was still pure and good.
I am NOT trying to derail or make this a political thread just sharing my 10+ years thoughts on the basis of WOT, which I'm a huge fan of despite it's clear imperfections.
Oh yeah, it's pretty well discussed if you look into years of internet boards. It's definitely not an original idea of mine.
As far as the corruption of the male side, I see it less of the "man bad woman good" and more of just the psychological/biological approach to sex, with men corrupted in the sense that they're driven by it to the point of losing control (i.e. the biological need to spread their DNA) and women are more in control (i.e. the willingness to wait and accept a mate they find acceptable). Maybe a bit simplified, but basically how I've interpreted it from my view.
Regardless, I do think it will be interesting to see how they depict that difference, particularly when it comes to the false dragons. Those guys always struck me as basically the fantasy version of incels, particularly Mazrim.
