Or the author's image. I'm sure he is talented, but he's not Lan, just like Tom Cruise wouldn't make a convincing samurai warrior or Denzel wouldn't be able to pull off General Patton.

Don't let common sense interrupt your progressive circle jerk. I'll still watch it and enjoy it, just know the diversity of casting is purely a social justice decision, not a source material one.

You're being ridiculous. This guy is the right age, and the Borderland nations always had an eastern feel (Shienar and Saldaea in particular). Slap some blue contacts on him and make him look slightly older, and he'll be just fine.

I don't even care that this guy is Asian without blue eyes. I figure Lan is an easy choice to adapt versus follow the books. I think Min is another one you could get creative with.

The main areas they need to focus on are making the edmond's field group look similar except Rand who needs to look Aiel. After that, each culture can look however you want. Just keep them each a bit different and internally consistent!

And since we are dealing with Earth humans, they should stick to real ethnicities that we have.

Y'all are way more tied up in racial images than I guess I am. If they act the role, they act the role. I'm much more concerned about how this show is written, acted and produced than I am whether Lan is cast as an Asian guy or not.

Pretty sure the original pic started with, "IDGAF about his race."

The dude in that picture doesn't look nearly as grizzled or war weary as I'd expect out of Lan. That's just a headshot, though, so we will see what they do with makeup.

Also, Lan is much older they the kids, but that's probably one they can change.

As someone mentioned after my comment, the actor is 40 years old, which is just a few years younger than Lan is in the books, but Lan is more grizzled, which we're obviously not getting from his headshots.

It makes me a think a lot of how I first reacted when they cast Brienne for GoT, which was "she's way too pretty."

Actually Hollywood is the one that is so race-obsessed and hellbent on being over-the-top "diverse".

They have WAY overcompensated and it's funny to watch. Not just movies...commercials, TV Shows, all of it. You'd think white people made up like 10-15% of the population at times.

I always pictured Lan as Clint Eastwood or Liam Neeson. Tall, gangly, and a hard *******. So this casting feels a little off

I'm sure they'll make Rand appear a bit taller in the show itself, but it is key that they're both taller than the other Two Rivers folks, so at least that part is right here.

Any casting news/rumors for other big names from the series? Obviously many of them wont pop up for a while, but Elayne, Padan Fain, Min, Thom Merrilin, Ishamael and Lews Therin are all in the Eye of the World. I'm sure I'm leaving other major characters out as well.

I mean, looking at that pic, I think Rand definitely stands out amongst the Two River folks. I don't think it will be any problem at all to draw a distinction between him and everybody else from two Rivers.

The Perrin actor is too tall and thin IMO. He will need to bulk up.

For Rand's height they could use more perspective or just heel lifts to give him a few inches.

Moraine's actress looks good just needs dark hair right? I recall her having brown hair?

Pretty sure Jordan went into great detail about each character's personality traits and behaviors. And unlike their race, their personalities played a HUGE role in their story. No need to have a perspective on this one.

I have been waiting for this thread to start and didn't know it was already going! I'm on my third reread of the series and a huge fan.

I'll forgo my thoughts on the cast because I want to wait and see some promotional shots or something before I judge on how close they fit their characters.

My biggest concern is Rafe and his vision. Apparently Sanderson has ready the initial scrips and have two thumbs up so I am cautiously optimistic.
