Side note: Amazon needs to do a better job promoting their shows. I'd totally forgotten that a new season of Jack Ryan was coming out and had no idea when this s2 was coming, and likely would've not seen both for a while were it not for posts on here.

Yep. They seem to really promote the crap out of S1 of shows, but then back off pretty big later on.

That being said, I think that they did absolutely nothing for WoT S2, and they did a hair above that for the Jack Ryan S2.

Always wonder what makes writers change source material

Budget, time and medium considerations, artistic considerations given others are bringing it to life in the new form, etc.

It's fun to think they do it simply to irritate those who thought the first iteration was immutable though.

They want to make it their own. Both personally, and in terms of attaching their name to the original.

Seanchan wardrobes are bad. I don't see insect armor. Suroth is depicted as desired. I hope Tuon is hot but with current trend probably not. I don't recall Perrin getting involved with Seanchan so early. Loial keeps changing sizes large to huge then back to large LOL.

Mat and Min interaction is good as well as White Tower proceedings while Rand is getting seduced.

I don't know that Tuon in the book is really "hot" per se. From the wiki description:

Quote:

She is dark and petite with large brown eyes, a heart-shaped face and full lips. As a mark of her station, her head is shaved and she has long, lacquered fingernails. Her rather underdeveloped figure, combined with her short stature, lack of hair, and small bust size have had the unfortunate result of causing virtually everyone she meets to initially mistake her either for a very young girl or a boy.

So less Tyra Banks and more, I dunno, Letitia Wright (Shuri from Black Panther).

In this particular case the sheer volume of source material would require changes.

In the case of things like Harry Potter it was just pure stupidity.

It was nice to see the actor that played Sithris in The Last Kingdom appear with the Shinarans, he was good in that show.

I'm through 2.5 episodes. So far, so good.

Definitely some story trimming that has happened from what I can recall, but the books are so dense that it was bound to have happen and necessary in spots too.

I can't tell if I like it though because it's good, or if that having prior background knowledge helps. Some of the stuff comes up so quickly in such a condensed show that it seems a little "hand wavey" if y'all know what I mean.

Definitely have to trim if they ever want to finish the series before we all die.

Episode 3 was one of the best yet.

Also I think they cast Selene really well. She is quite stunning and pretty much what I pictured

I might have missed it watching, have they shown what happened to Rand directly after EOTW? The first scene I remember seeing him in this season was in bed with Selene, but I wasn't sure if i missed a scene showing how he got there?

Episode 4. Started watching now. Intro scene is cool AF. Ready for Rand to start raging and KA. Please don't disappoint. <holds breath while drinking Two Hearted>

For some of the misses, in our opinions, they have also nailed some casting. Its a bit disappointing that the actors for Rand, Perrin, and Egwene are all somewhat weak, most every other actor has been good so far which really helps flesh out the quality of the show.

Just my opinion of their ability, maybe Im just way off and everyone else thinks those 3 are good.

I haven't watched any of the 4th episode yet. I do have the same opinion on Perrin and Egwene. I think Rand so far is serviceable and could improve. Outside of Perrin and Egwene I do agree the acting has been very good.

But every time it's either of them on screen and a plot point focused around them I have found myself just losing interest. Which is crazy given their character arcs from the books! I'll admit I didn't even fully care for Perrin's story/plot arc in the book (was also very repetitive), but his character change was good. And I don't see this Egwene acting going on giving any of the same resonation to the audience that she had in the books. If it weren't for reading the books and knowing more of their story already, I would be even more bored of them.

I'm just petty and wonder why Perrin speaks so weirdly like he can't open his mouth and egwene well…. Every time I see her I think of this

Perrin's storyline is pretty boring so far, but tbh, that's not much different than the entire series outside of book 1 and book 10-12.

Lol, I got a chuckle.

Given they have already taken creative liberties with a lot of stuff, they are not beholden to the same story arc/characterization for Perrin as what the book has. The actor just screams monotonous to me.

As for Egwene, I don't get the "poise" at all that Egwene had from the start in the books, from what I recall. Any of y'all have similar thoughts on that?

Watching again.

Loved:
Perrin Hopper and Wolf man (forgot his name)
Opening scene
Lanfear reveal
Aes Sedai workings
Rand letting lose

Cannot stand:
Rosamund Pike - Moraine is like 4' 11" and should be in purgatory, does Pike have any other expressions besides none?
Mat story but slightly saved by Min interactions

Cautiously looking forward to Demani Wells and Shayol Ghoul (sp?)

It's been a while since my last read, but I didn't get the poise stuff with Egwene until later on when she goes off into the wastes, and especially not until she comes back and starts taking beatings every day from the Red mistress of novices, can't remember her name.

Tbh, I understand why they brought in the Nynaeve / Lan stuff in as early as they did, but I think it was a detriment to Egwyne, as it seems like they are merging her story with Nynaeve's and then not giving her anything to do other than be her sidekick.

I think the Elayne casting is perfect.

I'm a little concerned that Mat is going to have a lot gutted from what made his character interesting in the books to me. We will see though, and I like this new actor so far.

Just finished episode 4 and agree. He's had not near enough development! Perrin and Rand have had much more. Maybe the latter part of the season shifts, but who knows. There are a lot of moving parts.

Maybe that game playing in the tavern in episode 4 is a slow entry into the rest of his story. I hope it builds up a bit.

Through 4 episodes this season is much much better then season 1. Will watch 5 some time this weekend.

Really enjoying this season over the first. Still have some issues with the graphics of the weaves and costume choices, especially for the Seanchan (way over the top IMO). Feels like a non fantasy/WoT fan's interpretation of what a WoTs fan would want. Not sure if that makes sense. It also doesn't feel "lived in" enough. Much too clean and renaissance fair-ish. Also, there were a few visuals that were clearly on a set that was bad enough to take me out of the plot. Looked like a mid rate high school drama class production. Like I have expected to see an audience in the foreground.

Those issues aside, they are doing a much better job developing the characters and plot this time around. Still some issues with some of their choices but I'm willing to give them room to see if they can land it.
