It does feel a little like not much is happening but I do think the episodes are improving from the beginning.
Capturing the spirit of some of the later books.

Really like that they hid Padan Fain in a couple of Tar Valon scenes this last episode. The books had little nuggets throughout the series. They are trying to capture the same for those who notice. I missed him in my first watch but saw a youtuber point it out in an Easter eggs review

I follow the dude from WoTup.

There are two scenes that have Fain. First a couple minutes after they first entered TV and the second during the Logain procession through the streets. I was following the news pretty close during filming and no one picked up that Fain was filming in the later blocks.

So, finally caught up and a few of my thoughts if y'all care:

Ultimately, I'm onboard with the series and am glad to see what they have done with most it, but i do have some issues (most of the changes are fine and may be necessary for a proper adaptation)

biggest issue i have is that I feel like the show teeters on the verge of B-level/SciFi level of cheese. That has gotten better since the first couple episodes but its still there and keeps me from jumping in full bore like GoT. Dont get me wrong, there are some elements that are very well done, but then there are scenes or rounds of dialog that are really bad. I am probably in the minority, but i wish they would have slowed things down to help build the world and history. So much of what people loved about GoT were the quiet/talking scenes. yes, the battles were cool, but the intrigue and whats going on was so well done and what drew people in. I guess in a word, Subtlety.

For example, the opening scene was super cheesy. I get what they were trying to do but was really poorly done with your stereotypical "fantasy speak" that tends to make your average viewer roll their eyes. Would have loved them to show the prologue of EotW to help set the scene instead. Lews Therin wandering his castle, mad, looking for his wife, the realization that he killed her and others, etc. would allow you to show the taint of saidin, and why the dragon reborn is such a big deal. as it stands now, we know its kinda like the chosen one?

Second, would have appreciated more of a slow build with the Two Rivers folk, before Moraine and Lan get there, setup more of whats going on elsewhere, with the Reds, why M and L find themselves in the two rivers, etc. (the song and story about Manatheren was well done IMO) Also, did we need to see the Trolloc attack to such a degree? Could have just shown the attack on Rand and Tam at their farmhouse, the surprise at Tam's sword skills, the heron blade, then had his fever dream/talking. make the trollocs and fade more unseen so you have this fear of the unknown, so when you do finally get it, its more of a holy **** moment. (for reference, i think back to the battles that were done off page in GoT to help save budget. but would create a better build up to the use of the weaves)

thank you for reading my TED talk.

Definitely saw Fain during the initial watch in the scene where Rand and Matt were on the balcony but didn't see him during the entry to Tar Valon. Will have to rewatch to catch him.

They give you part of the prologue in one of the X-ray bonus clips but not the full story/dialogue. Even that though was extremely helpful for my wife. She was like "okay yeah that sets up the situation." Wish they would have done it like a LotR intro since it didn't necessarily need to be a scene between LTT & Ishy.

Was this the low-budget, middle of the night show aired to gain the rights? I'm not going to lie, I really liked it... I got the impression that it was so much worse.

My impression was that whoever had the rights had to do something to not lose those rights so a low budget infomercial hour pilot wa s the cheapest way to do it.

I'm actually impressed that they paid enough to have Billy Zane

Masema is probably the most important of them, because he leads the cult in later books. Wasn't sure if they were going to do that, but guessing since he's been cast, it's still on.

The guy they tagged for Uno is spot on IMO

I can't find an age for him online. Can't remember if they describe him in terms of age in the books either. That said, they could potentially age the actor up a bit to make him look more like an experienced soldier.

Me too! I had to look those guys online and they're all tied into the search for the Horn and the Battle at Falme.

They are all in multiple books. Most in several. Agelmar was in the first and last for instance. Uno cusses a lot.

Well blood and bloody ashes I wonder if those goat kissing makeup artists will get a topknot to stick to Uno's flaming head?

I could totally see this guy leading a cult

Did him and the whitecloaks ever annihilate each other?

Also would have loved to see that Rand falling in Elaynes garden thing

Is there a casting for Hurin yet? He was the tracker/sniffer that went on the hunt for the horn with Rand and co. He also makes a sad appearance in the final books.

I've read that Episode 6 slows down some more and focuses on world building. Which works for me and I'm excited. The last two episodes should bring plenty of excitement between the Ways and Tarwins Gap.
