This is exactly it. This is just one long story, and there has to be some catch up time where you're not with the main characters. In a single book it might be a few chapters, but in a story this long that story cleanup was several books. Utterly maddening when reading them as they came out, but not so bad now that you know you're rolling right into better stuff.


I think there were better ways to do it, still not a fan of how he handled the Asha'man. Just never really developed them, and the Mahel heel turn was one of the least surprising, most drawn out thing in the books. He could have made him a real villain, but I think he just had to many villains to deal with.
Jordan's notes revealed that he originally intended Taim to be Demandred at first but changed his mind later. It made me feel better about thinking it was him during my read lol.

Stupid change if it's what it looks like. There are a lot of things that don't make sense (like the purpose of the Red Ajah) if the Dragon could be female.

I did think that was odd (and unnecessary) unless they just really want to throw people off, but the Red's purpose could still be the same even if the Dragon could be reborn as any gender.

Who knows if it's even in the show. I could see them having the line in the trailer to draw outside people in, but it would be a pretty dramatic rewrite. Especially considering the entire civilization in this world is dominated by women specifically because of the Dragon.

That's my issue Champ.

As far as the Reds go, The Dragon being male is the whole reason he has to be controlled- saidin is tainted and he'll go mad unless he's stopped and held in reserve until he's needed. With a female Dragon that's not necessary.

Also, Rafe Judkins put out a 13-minute breakdown of the trailer. Going to see if he addresses the "you 5" comment. At the end of the day though, I doubt that plays much into the show since we should know who the DR is by end of Season 1.

The Reds hunt any male channelers though, so their purpose would still remain even if the DR could be a woman. Also, their purpose was broader before the taint (and really still is although finding the male channelers is priority 1).

Trailer was good. I actually like the loom and feel way better in this one than the prior one we got!

That being said, I echo the slight...concern. Rather maybe the issue, of considering the DR to be female. To me that is a big change off of the groundwork for the plot.

I also wonder just why they did that? Maybe they didn't want to put some people off of the show early on, and in the end it doesn't really matter.

As one of y'all also said, if the viewer doesn't know who the DR is by the end of season 1, then the show is really missing some marks.

The only reason I can think of for them doing that is to build the importance of all 5 of the Emond's Fielders. They really are all crucial to the story, so maybe they want to make that clear earlier?

Maybe Moiraine doesn't know if Egwene or Nynaeve might identify as male and then can touch the one power "male" half.

I think it's this. It's always a point throughout the series that you can never fully trust the Aes Sedai, and they rarely reveal their true intentions. I think this is a very simple example of that concept, something that can translate easily to the screen.

Nerd moment, there was a saidin wielding female character, but she was created by the dark one when he reincarnated one of the forsaken and only had a female host. Nerd moment done.

I sincerely hope it wasn't a D&D level oversight that even the possibility of a female dragon does not make any sense.

There was a lot of cool stuff in the trailer that has me pretty positive… first look at an Aiel! Tam fighting a trolloc, whitecloaks actually look to be more competent than in the books

I've never seen that story before, thanks! It's just about worthless to speculate about something that was written 25 years ago... but that was fascinating.

Was Posae black ajah? Hoping to ascend into the Forsaken?

Rand needed saidin/saidar AND the true power to fully seal the bore, so it's short sighted to say that LTT's plan to use just saidin/saidar would have worked.

Or was she just similar to Elaida... evil by accident?

Why was she written out of history? To protect the reputation of the remaining Aes Sedai?

Never gonna get answers. If Jordan had finished the series quicker, maybe there would have been some good novellas to expand on the history.

I vote we go raid Sanderson and McDougal's houses and steal all the notes...

I believe it is mentioned in the books that there is debate that if women joined the men in the strike, saidar would also have been tainted. So it was probably a good thing that they didn't join the strikw.

A little over a week away. There have been some screenings and episode recaps are out there for those who do not care about being spoiled. Just google search wheel of time tv show leaks and you can find them.

I read one that was a quick overview without getting into details. Overall feedback seems positive. Apparently episode 4 is amazing.

I'm excited, but I've always tried to temper my expectations a bit. This is an enormous series with so much going on that it was always going to leave things out. It has potential though so I'm pumped.
