Its been a while, but was Dumai's Wells before or after Falme? I remembered the Seanchan using their Powered slaves to kill people before the crazy black cloaks did.
Dumai's Wells is the climax to book 6. Lots of "Oh ****e!" moments.

Good question on the rating and one I'd like to hear from the show runners on. I would hope they make it MA. Jordan kept a lot of things up to the viewer and implied so who knows what they'll do.

If I heard correctly the actress contracts for the Two Rivers girls included nudity but I'm not sure that is confirmed.

An another question for all - is this a spoiler thread with the assumption that folks have read the entire series? Or do we use spoiler tags for anything beyond Book 1?

I'm down for whatever, but consensus might be good since we've had several folks stop by who never finished the books.
Good point. It's been going both ways, so might just be better if I drop a warning in the OP

Dumais Wells i hope has the same effect for the viewers as it does for readers. It's the first time we see the power used as a weapon in a war like environment and it's absolutely brutal. Up until that point the aes Sedai and aiel wise ones don't use it as a weapon. Then we get a very graphic visual of the ashaman literally popping heads and ripping people apart. I hope they do it justice in the show; make that significant leap to a new world where armies can unleash that kind of power, total game changer.

Edit: added spoiler tag just in case.

That battle should have the music cut out entirely the second the ashaman start doing their thing

Ah the Ogier. That way we have braid tugs and people screaming Trolloc!

I could see the Ogier/Traveling people story line being left out. I honestly don't remember if they ever found the "song" and if it really mattered.
Both are absolutely integral to the story. Loial and the Ogier for a myriad of reasons (the Ways and Waygates chief among them in the early books) and the revelation that the Tuatha'an and the Aiel having the same origin in the Da'shain Aiel and the Way of the Leaf is what breaks the Aiel, which is about as crucial a plot point as there is.

I get it being crucial in the books where you can get those details, but in a condensed show something that be explained in one scene might get cut.

The Aiel origin is easy, they will be shown as fierce warriors, just have their leaders agree when it is revealed of the origin, they go crazy and scene. Ogier/Waygates as well, it could just be knowledge that Moiraine has

As readers we want the full backstory but unfortunately, big things will be cut.

Per dragonmount, they are saying that both Egwene and Nynaeve have nudity written into their characters. They are going for a game of thrones MA. If you have seen carnival row on amazon, I imagine it will be similar.

I think they can cut the ways, traveling stones, and maybe tuatha'an.

I disagree. The travelling people reveal with their relation to the Aiel is important. The ways are critical to the initial journey to the eye of the world and the initial Trolloc invasion of Two Rivers. Without the ways how do they explain Trollocs so far south?

I wish they could do the story without cutting anything. But you can have Trollocs sneak into the Two Rivers by any means you want. They don't need the Ways for that. You can cut the entire "song" and travelling people. Just have the Aiel and a story about a hero who turns out to be an outlander so the Shaido split happens. I figure they have to cut lots. And some areas are more palatable.

What would you have them cut?

Man so much could be cut and since I'm only on book 2 of my first reread since Sandersom finished it years ago I am very fuzzy on many details. I know they cannot cut the Seanchan out but I would like to see much of that cut. You cannot do that though due to Horn usage, Rand's injury, and the collars.

Honestly I have no good answer for you but I may in a year or so! The beauty and the pain of this story is the abundance of fluff but also how small parts of that fluff become key to the big story.

If they cut the ways then they have to find another way to get to the blight too. Also Perrin spanks Faile in them on the way to the two rivers.

I don't think they should cut much early on. My best guesses are cut the seafolk and end the shaido at Dumais wells for starters.

You dont have to cut much plot at all. Probably over half of each book is just stuff that will depicted in moments on screen

Keeping the Ways would be easy in my opinion. Aes Sedai know about them being able to travel quickly but they were corrupted and dangerous.

I think a lot of the hidden characters might be dropped, people getting killed by unknown assailants. The whole getting killed and reborn etc. That could get confusing really quickly for a first time viewer. Hell, it was confusing for readers because it took too many books to reveal who everyone was.

Chase McGuire

Agreed. I bet they cut out most of the Forsaken. Only a few are really necessary to move the plot along.

That's an interesting point.

Other than the cut that never heals, a few other encounters and the constantly hunting them. What else did he do that was a major plot point?

Yeah not much honestly- he kind of got lost in the weeds IMO.

Yeah, a lot of his stuff can be given to Darkfriends or even Forsaken.
The Dagger should be necessary for Mat though

What about Elyas? Necessary for Perrin, or easily replaceable with Aes Sedai knowledge?
Claude!

Gawyn, Galad, and Morgase can probably all be cut or severely trimmed. Elyas probably isn't necessary, but I don't think he takes up a ton of time.

I do wish I could remember the random 1-2 page chapter that was thrown into one of the early books that was never even mentioned or explained again through at least book 8. I have zero recollection of what it was or the context of it but that one scene haunted me for years (and I guess still does) because it was never explained.

That just tells you how powerful these books were. They were the best books I ever read up until I rage quit after reading 7 and 8. The first three books still may be the greatest Fantasy ever written IMO.

Add to that the Children of the Light, talk about pointless plot lines.

So if Book 1 is 5 episodes it seems as if it will progress like this:

1 - Emond's Field to Baerlon
2 - Baerlon to Shadar Logoth
3 - SL to Caemlyn
4 - Caemlyn to Borderlands
5 - Borderlands to Eye of the World

That's a lot of traveling but I think it would work

Does Perrin even need to talk to wolves? Maybe because that is one of the least interesting MAIN plots, but I would be ok cutting that. It is also something that is hard to integrate and explain in a limited amount of time.

Found link to the reread I think same as other day. I was sick and not in it earlier this week and didn%92t realize the WoT reread was just all down the page of this one URL. Ugh.

Anyways, it was a great source. Man I miss reading these books.
