Heard some speculation that they may kill Moiraine this next week. Have a hard time believing it, it who knows with all the deviations from the books.

Yeah, she would have to die in a different way than the books and the Thom connection isn't there at all.

It's already confirmed she is filming for season 2, so I'm not sure how that'd work. They need to keep that part of the story the same. In a series where not many people die, hers was a shock.

I recently came across this line in one of the early books… "Rand nearly retched as he tasted the scent of the Dark One's taint".

Compared to that, lesbian witch scenes are a first-world problem.

If they do a Rand perrin egwene love triangle I'm going to puke.

Loved, loved, loved rhe opening scene showing a Maiden kick ass. I guess I enjoyed the episode overall. Show just feels too much like a WB show sometimes, though. Like the Riverdale spinning of the wheel.

Great episode. The reveal was done well enough I think. Next week going to be awesome. Loved the climax of book 1 the first time I read it years ago.

****, does she? Lol. I seriously need to reread the series.

Edit: ****, now I remember Lanfear kills her or something.

But she comes back, doesn't she?

She tackles lanfear through the door that sends them to the land with the snakes and foxes. Where they answer questions or grant three boons. Lanfear dies there and is brought back by the dark one. Moiraine is held captive and is later rescued, though with diminished power.

Think we will get Thom playing with the letter for 6 books in order to get Mar to notice and ask about it?

My best guess is that they're going to use The Eye of the World as the Forsakens' prison, and Rand will release them when he uses it up.

The show definitely feels way too CW at times, but I thought the Blight actually looked pretty cool in episode 7.

I can see that happening. The first time through I thought the bore and the eye were the same thing. I don't remember which was mentioned first in the books.

It definitely has moments that are very CW, but so far it has more legitimate show moments

Started watching this tonight. Here's my hot take:

Not nearly as interesting as I thought it would be. The way it's shot with the sets/costume really strikes me as early 2000's Sci-fi channel type of show/miniseries. Not even sure I'll finish this one.

Each episode is better than the previous if you give it a chance. I really enjoyed episode 5 & 7.

That episode was the best so far for me. Character development was much better than previous episodes. I hope they can keep it going this strongly.

The intimate relationship between Rand and Egwene still bothers me for some reason. I think they could have shown them being close but not sexual and still make their future dynamic work just fine.

I wont go so far as to say it was necessary, but with the speed they are moving along, the writers probably felt it needed to drive home their closeness and how they always assumed they would be together. a little lazy perhaps but ultimately not a big deal and will help with Rand's future dilemma/situation

I'm just happy they're blowing through a lot of the teenage angst commentary. Totally fine with using sex to illustrate the closeness and avoid the high school drama.

Whoever was in charge of that opening scene with the Maiden battle in the snow needs to do more. First bit of quality in the show so far; hell they should have just started the whole series with that scene.

There is plenty of the books I recognize but how they blended the elements to make a very different story is disturbing.

Apparently they'll be allowed 8 seasons at 8 episodes apiece. The adaptation has to be different based on those logistics alone.

As someone who didn't read the books but whose spouse did, I've been watching it and I think it's a bad gimmick.

It seems like their go to for character development. What LotR did in a few hours with characters appears untouchable for this series. Long term friendships without romance are few and far between for normal people. I could name two when going through the show and characters with my wife.

I think the average watcher suffers as well since they blow through months worth of time together (for instance with the leaf gipsies) and expect us to buy into the closeness of the characters. We have to watch devotion without seeing it grow (like being mad about mat being left behind).

Remember the characters grew up together and are already very close at the beginning of the story. They aren't portraying that well, but all the Two Rivers people grew up isolated from outsiders and know each other very well,

I appreciated the scene where they had Rand vehemently defend Mat, hopefully we see more exposition like that going forward.

Between that scene, and his crazy smile he did when confronting Perrin about 'also' liking Egwene, I've started to think he might end actually being a good actor. He hadn't really been asked to do much yet, imo.

Understood but so did the hobbits. I'm saying as a non-book reader it doesn't come across.

Edit: to throw the show a bone, the fire scene with the warders a few episodes back was a better moment than what I've seen between the characters (in my opinion).
